Nigerian Scammer Who Tricked Payday Lender Of £3million Jailed For Six Years

A Nigerian man, Kelvin Okusanya, who is the mastermind behind a £3million Wonga scam which used the identities of thousands of innocent members of the public to withdraw cash has been jailed for six years.

Kelvin 32, according to Daily Mail, was part of a gang which exploited the company's website algorithms to make more than 19,000 loan applications from April 2012 to June 2013 using the same password 'Bengali90'.
The cash was then laundered through hundreds of bank accounts by the fraudsters while the unsuspecting victims were left facing paying the one per cent a day interest payments.

Okusanya was convicted of fraud after the Old Bailey heard he personally made 82 false applications involving 30 victims.
The judge, Mr Recorder Sells QC, said: 'The names and details of wholly innocent members of the public were used to make fraudulent loan applications on a massive scale.

'Some were even contacted by Wonga for the loans they had not applied for and knew nothing about.Such offences are corrosive of the trust which people hold in the financial services sector. They are increasingly prevalent, they are easy to commit and hard to detect.'

The judge told Okusanya: 'You were described during the trial as the mastermind and one of the controlling minds of the whole of this fraud.
I am satisfied that you were a leading member of a criminal enterprise which intended to get many millions of pounds.'

Eight others were convicted of laundering the proceeds of the cash through bank accounts under their control.

Prosecutor Richard Hearnden told the court: 'The criminals netted over £3million by targeting one of Britain's most controversial institutions, the pay day lender Wonga.Wonga paid out on thousands of payday loans. Each of these loans was only for a few hundred pounds but added together these loans amounted to millions.

'The fraud came about by stealing the names, dates of birth, addresses, email addresses, mobile phone numbers and debit card numbers of literally thousands of ordinary members of the public.
'The fraudsters that were operating this scam probably bought ready-made lists of potential victims and their personal financial data.

  5. hello sdk and fellow bv, sorry to divert from the post.
i am just so mad right now, im looking at the one i used to think was my everything, someone i would readily sacrifice for and i feel like bathing him with the rice boiling over the gas.

i met this guy awhile ago and he was so smooth, i opened up to him on everything, for the first time i wanted to truly love someone, left my state to his and spent a long period very wasted cos i spent alot and yes, i didnt do the mermaid style as you must have guessed, he took me home to his folks, and i paid the bills, SDK I tried not to regret the money I spent there as I felt since he didn't have I could always spare and I never told anyone about it.

after my return I started withdrawing mainly cos I rebooted from ms romantic to ms reality and I started to wonder how this guy would get money to fund wedding as we were already having talks on that, im not an elaborate wedding type, but even the small one sef na wahala, again, he specifically said if i got a job outside of the state he resides in we are over, citing distance as an issue, he said the distance was putting a strain on us. see me see trouble so if I get a good job in another state I shouldn't take it? you will feed me with preeq and balls? forgive my manners.
eventually i tot it true and decided to try, but before i decided i had broken it off with him n dear boy ran to kpansh a babe within 3 days, he told me when we reconciled days later.
now this guy came to my state to see me with the hope we could sort things out. I am #Teamsnoop and proud. I went thru his phone(the one i gave him) and gbam see plenty sex chat with a babe, clearly she's the one he's been kpanshing, then I checked another chat with his cousin and gbam, he told the cousin he's coming all the way from his distant state to mine just to knack me cos I'm good at it and end our relationship when hes leaving. i froze, then i started to shake, tf! im supposed to pay his fare back, i am feeding him, im doing a lot, i slept in this same house on this same bed with this guy last night and imagine if i hadnt snooped i for dey form lover girl. i don die, ive been acting cool but i'm scared, pissed and stunned. im not the sort to ask for my phone back, i was thinking of asking him outta my house without giving him kobo but im also thinking of giving him and just before he leaves I'll call it off. my couz had an issue with her husband and returned to her father's house and we came after her to apologize, family meeting over they lodged, next day they found her dead body n the guy disappeared till today no trace, that alone is fearing me the more. I just urged him to return to his base earlier than he plans and he agreed, he's been laughing evil since and in his mind I have no idea what he's about to do. I feel like maiming him. sorry about the long epistle I had to vent. i'll simply redirected him to whatever comments I get here they day he's leaving.bastard

    4. My dear, look at that dude straight in the face and show him the chat. Then tell him thank u, and he should never call u again. No longer talk bcos his conscience will finish him after that. You don't even need to do or say anything. Trust me, the evidence will do the job. That is if he has a conscience though. Shameless thing, a lady is funding u and u have the temerity to trample on her. He's a frog. Tell him sisi eko says so. Nonsense

  12. He's lucky it was in the UK. If he had done this in the US, he would be looking at a longer jail term, maybe 25 - 30 years.

The criminal justice system in the UK is too lenient to serve as a deterrent. With good behaviour, he could actually be out in half the time.
