Lai Muhammed Says Nigerians Misunderstood APC’s Change Mantra’

THE Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, yesterday said that Nigerians largely misunderstood the Change mantra with which his party campaigned and won the 2015 presidential election.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with the Executive Council of the Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN), Mohammed stated that though the party campaigned using change mantra, it has been taken by Nigerians to mean that as soon as Buhari was sworn in, the next day, things would change completely in Nigeria.

The minster maintained that Nigerians must understand that things do not happen that way because the country cannot continue to be doing things the same way and expect a different result.
“Yes, we know what the ills are; corruption, indiscipline… but it’s not restricted to people at the top. Each one of us has a role to play,” he said.
According to him, it is the reason the Buhari-led government is coming up with the ‘Change Begins with You Campaign’. “The malaise crippling the fabric of the society today, ‘everybody is guilty,” he noted.

The Minister observed that an average Nigerian, given the slightest opportunity, would cheat, noting that corruption cuts across professions, age and gender in the country.
“Nigeria cannot adequately account for the lives that had been lost simply because some pharmacists decided to adulterate drugs. We cannot quantify how many lives we have lost because of the danfo drivers that wake up in the morning to drink paraga before hitting the road. Most of the traffic bottleneck in Nigeria today is due to indiscipline,” he said.

  4. The bitter truth is that Nigerians were deceived and duped by the APC using the false change mantra.
The reality is that things were better under GEJ govt. Just take a look at the economy. It has been in shambles since Buhari came to power

    2. And madam/Mr wise anonymous, what exactly have they done except imposing more taxes? Please don't tell me fighting corruption and developing the economy are not mutually exclusive, they should go hand in hand. After 8 months they've come to clarify the meaning of change. These people just think all Nigerians are dumb,I don't blame them considering how someone will type comment like this.

  7. Dear Mr lie mohammed, so after nigerians were swayed by the change mantra and voted to that effect, you now deem it fit to come out and say they misunderstood what the change mantra was all about?

Pray tell what is the meaning of change? I'll tell you..change means making a difference, to cause a transformation..
So pardon nigerians when they demand for the change they voted for.

Don't come telling us we don't understand the meaning of the word 'CHANGE'.

You talk of indiscipline on the roads, what structures have been put in place to checkmate drunk driving?

How many arrest has ever been made for driving under the influence?

Don't make me call you and your goons any names.

  8. But Stella, you should be absolutely honest. No one can change Nigeria overnight.not even a hundred Americans plus 50 Germans in govt.Their Nigerian PA, SA,drivers, cooks, cleaners will sabotage them. This country stinks with greed & corruption. Besides,I noticed it is the PDP supporters who are shouting this change more than anyone else, just to discredit Buhari’s govt.A man they did not vote for.But are following his every sneeze like witches on a mission. We that voted this man in know the truth,we know it'll be gradual,we know he needs support,we also know governance is not magic!

  11. Please President Buhari should be cautioned on his use of words especially as it relates to the Nigerian citizenry. He is undermining the efforts of honest, hardworking Nigerians in Diaspora. Please someone should school him on the tenets of making diplomatic comments

  15. Some certain points need to be heard, we Nigerians are full of greed and live more than what we have. Only in Nigeria a graduate is not just looking for a job but other ways of embezzling money immediately after his/her appointment, A common Nigerian sees a traffic law as obstacles to his/her movement and if those little things don't change we won't improve or get better as a country, the problem of this country blessed with what we could make fortune with starts from me and you and not just the politician alone, if nobody goes to the polling booth to vote for this corrupt and self serving politician the country will surely be a better place to live, imagine a country without any kind of natural resources can even mock Nigeria management system and still come here to indirectly steal from you. If you want to know how much this country can rapidly develop please be less corrupt and abide by the rule with good visionary leaders not just bunch of useless educated nuisances we have in Govt houses nationwide, average Nigerians who come here to pour out rubbish uses the money they can use to develop themselves business wise to buy phones and data instead of using the data to research what business they could start with, recently i saw a graduate lady talking about how much she has earned from the agricultural entrepreneur business organized by Ogun state Govement with just selling eggs and other livestock products but other graduates will still come here hoping to hear Buhari is opening doors of CBN for you to pack money. May God help us
