  27. Congrats and more grace on your birthday.

I've observed that people know little about different eye healthcare personnel in Nigeria. An Optician is a technician or even trader who makes/sells/dispenses glasses: an Optometrist studied optometry and is licensed to give glasses and treat only minor eye ailments; an Ophthalmologist is first of all a medical doctor who after NYSC, takes another 6 yrs at least to specialize in all eye ailments and surgeries.

My grouse with many optometrists is that they dabble into areas they know nothing about (after consulting the internet) to the detriment of a patient's sight. By the time they refer the person, the eye would have been irreversibly damaged. One went as far as doing minor surgical procedure to remove foreign body and ran unto problems. The patient eventually realized and threatened to sue his ass and strip him of his license. Money changed hands and he was let off easily... Only in Nigeria.

  29. @zeen I disagree with u on that. We are the ist point of call when it comes 2 eye issues. We are the primary eye care providers. And most of use know our limit in handling a patient. We refer when necessary otherwise we treat and manage. Thanks
