      No dear, its actually part of the unwritten norms on the Urhobo traditional marriage. I was told by my older Aunties to the same on my traditional wedding day and it was fun. Same thing happened in most Urhobo marriages I know. Its fun, its supposed to make the man's family know you are not cheap. Can be really scary though. You are expected to answer at either the 3rd or 7th time the question is asked! Get it?

    the same thing happened to one of my friend. i was told by my ijaw/delta friend that once you are brought to your husband you don't smile or laugh until you are sprayed enough money, after the elderly women are contented they will tell you to smile.

    It is practiced by the ijaws of bayelsa state. witnessed several , the bride isn't suppose to smile till she is satisfied with the shower of cash from the husband and his peeps. Most brides can keep this pose for an hour or more and other cannot . It is a beautiful thing. I didn't know urhobors practice this too.
