A 53-year old woman died of Lassa fever in Akwa Ibom State, according to the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong.

Dr. Ukpong announced the woman’s death after informing members of the press that a taskforce had just been created to tackle the issue of Lassa fever.
Thus far, according to Dr. Ukpong, the State had recorded three cases of Lassa fever and He noted that one of the cases fled the hospital while another was already in hospital care for HIV.
