he ''Twelve Days of Christmas'' refer to the eight days of Christmas Octave from December 25 to New Years Day, and the four additional days up to and including the eve of January 6, the traditional date of the Epiphany.
According to the handbook of Catholic Sacramentals by Ann Ball, the famous song about 12 Days of Christmas was written in England as catechism song for young catholics in the days when it was illegal to practice or teach the Catholic Faith. It contains hidden meanings intended to help children remember lessons of faith. Instead of referring to an earthly suitor the ''true love'' mentioned in the song really refers to God. The ''me'' who receives the presents is symbolic of every baptised person.
There appears to be no conclusive historical evidence to prove the origin of the song. Nevertheless, the traditional association between the gifts mentioned in the song and the various spiritual gifts is a fun way to turn a seemingly secular Christmas carol into a valuable Christian song. So lets have fun with it!
Partridge in a pear tree: Jesus Christ, symbolised as a mother partridge that feigns injury to decoy predators from helpless nestlings.
Two turtle doves: Old and New Testaments
Three French Hens: Faith, Hope, Charity.
Four Calling birds: The Four Gospels- Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.
Five Golden Rings: The Pentateuch or Five Books of Moses (Genesis through Deuteronomy)
Six geese a laying: Six days of Creation ( Genesis 1)
Seven Swans a swimming: 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit (1Cor 12): wisdom, understanding, counsel, knowledge, fortitude, piety and fear of the Lord
Eight maids a-milking: 8 Beatitudes (Mathew 5:1-12)
Nine Ladies Dancing: Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5 vs 22-23) love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Ten Lords a-leaping: 10 Commandments(Deut 5:6-21)
Eleven pipers piping: The 11 faithful disciples
12 drummers drumming: 12 articles of the Apostles Creed.
I know bv's will say too long please can someone summarise...lols

Just today while surfing, I also came across the origin of the christmas song "little drummer boy" that's my best christmas song ever.
And of course, as a catholic,(even though I rarely attend catholic church these days) my christmas aint complete without "AVE MARIA" (italian, latin and german version)
*Singing*
I am a poor boy too pa rum pa pum pum..
I have no gifts to bring pa rum pum pum pum..
To lay b4 the king pa rum pum pum pum,rum pum pum,rum pum pum..
Shall I play for you pa rum pum pum pum..
On my drum...*drum beats*
Oh really?
DeleteAwwwwww
Pa rum pum pum.
I like the humming so much.
This is my fav ever! Infact all of them.
I played Mary in our school pray.
We sang "We 3 kings of Orient"
Then..Joy to the World.
You need to listen to Pentatonix's rendition of The Drummer Boy.
DeleteThose people are very talented. And sans instruments to boot.
#WhiteDiamondOut
Awwwwwwwwwwww

Momma made xmas soooo special, that's when you get all new everything(now I know how much she tried to do all that) *pauses to swallow saliva*
Ehen, she would put Bonny M on replay...Oh Lordyyy!!!
My mom made sure we went to see "father christmas" in like 2 different places every year, chai that woman...
Even when we entered secondary school,we still went. *covers face*
And we have 3 december babies in da house!! Whoop whoop!
My brother-25th December
Me-13days before my brother's
My daughter-2days after mine.
I still do the traditional december decors..We have our green and red wreath on the door already
Thank you Lord for life.
This holiday will be the longest evuurr!
I should go on,but I think il troll.*grinning*
Lord, let me give my kids half the Christmas my mom gave us(even though I no dey try) LOL
Happy belated birthday Iphie Dearie!!
DeleteI smiled all through while reading your comment. I could feel your joy and happiness all the way here... Lol
Awww!
DeleteChristmas in our house is not complete, if momma hasn't fried chin chin and baked cakes.
Never!
Nostalgic memories maynne!
Hopefully, I give my children all I was given and more.
Even at my age, I'm still looking forward to travelling home for Christmas, and the 'tarity' for weeks.
I usually find a very big milk or milo tin, and keep squirrelling away handfuls of chin chin, till there's no more room, because if I don't start on time, before 1st January, there'll be little or nothing remaining.
Momma will be like, 'is it not you again? I know you've packed half of the chin chin and hidden'.
And my reply will be a confused look...lmao.
Then,i used to nibble momma 's chin chin in school till as long as February.
It has this distinct flavour, thanks to raw ginger extract, and frying with onions.
I won't stop now,adult or not...lol.
#WhiteDiamondOut
Chummu chum,tnxxxxxx. O yea,everyone knows christmas can't be taken from me,lol
DeleteWhitey, going home then to visit the grandparents was like heaven on earth, unfortunately, they both dead.
