Okonjo-Iweala Says Dasuki Got $322m Abacha Loot From Her...

Former Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala yesterday confirmed that she approved the transfer of $322 million Abacha loot to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki to prosecute the fight against Boko Haram. But she said it was a loan.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala has been under attack, mainly from Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole for allowing expenditure without authorisation.

Through her media adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, in a statement last night, the former minister said: “Some new Abacha funds of about $322 million were returned with another $700m still expected to be returned. Former President (Goodluck) Jonathan set up a Committee comprising the former Minister of Justice, former NSA and the former Minister of Finance to determine how best to use both the returned and expected funds for development.”

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said at the meeting, “the NSA made a case for using the returned funds for urgent security operations since, he noted, there cannot be any development without peace and security. Based on this, a decision was taken to deploy about $322m for the military operations, while the expected $700m would be applied for development programmes as originally conceived.”
Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala stated that based on the urgency of the NSA’s memo, she requested former President Goodluck Jonathan “to approve the transfer of the requested amount to the NSA’s Office for the specified purposes.”

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala, referring to the meeting’s memo, said she “insisted on three conditions: a. only a part, not the entire Abacha funds, would be spent on the arms; the rest would be invested in developmental projects as originally conceived b. the money was to be treated as borrowed funds which would be paid back as soon as possible and c. the NSA’s office was to account for the spending to the President who was the Commander-in-Chief, given the fact that the Minister of Finance is not part of the security architecture and does not participate in the Security Council.

“Throughout 2014, there were public complaints by the military hierarchy to President Goodluck Jonathan about the inadequacy of funds to fight the anti-terror war in the North East, resulting in Boko Haram making gains and even taking territories. A lot of the criticism was directed at the Federal Ministry of Finance under Dr Okonjo-Iweala which was accused of not doing enough to find funds for the operations.”

  6. On what grounds did she give Jonathan the documents for approval without taking it through proper channels?
Maybe when Dasuki starts singing fully, you'll hear that she received her cut. That's how this woman, Jonathan and two others were receiving money deducted from phcn pensioners money monthly. Despite all the money they had, they still greedily shared 3000 naira deducted monthly from every phcn pensioner.
My mum is a pensioner so I know this for a fact. I wonder how many other parastatal they were deducting from.

I don't think Dasuki would walk out of this a free man. Too many reports indicting him further. So he capitalized on the FG's desperate need to combact insecurity? He turned Nigeria's security woes into a money making venture.

  26. Ngozi Iwuala was really incompetent during last administration and she deserve to be in jail as well. How can a minister sign off huge amount without the knowledge of the legislature? She is the type western capitalist governments use as a spy to bring down the economy of developing countries in the name of helping developing countries. I am still wondering why an international organisation still compensated her with a new job after she messed up our economy. Is it a ploy to deceive Nigerians? Someone who left us in debit after billions she helped OBJ government save. Even with her 2 portfolios she failed woefully.
Iweala performed well during OBJ regime because BABA being a smart president monitored her activities as she wasn't given free hand reasons she left OBJ government angrily. See the result of such free hand she got from Incompetent ex president that's why we are faced with current situation. Everything was totally built on FRAUD.
Where is the booming economy after 6months they left office? It was just lies stage managed by her office and administration to deceive Nigerians into voting them back in. If that's not the case why should an ex world bank president be so incompetent and lack management skills to manage a country economy entrusted on her. Just imagine a minster dishing out fund without appropriation. They don't care about us in Nigeria reasons they advise their children to marry foreigners because they see no hope in our nation. When Adam Oshomole speak out about the rot in our nation people should please allow him do so even though he is no saint, he knows what he is talking about. We always need to speak out as we can't continue to fold our arms any longer. We had oil boom the past years but nothing to show for it today, we are in debit, oil price has fallen to the lowest, no cash, bad economy. How can Nigeria survive as a nation?

And why was it not made public when the $ 322million was returned?

And when the soldiers in thenorth were crying and defaulting due to lack of arms why was there no investigation to find out where the money went ? Why did Jonathan look on? Why did okonji iweala say nothing ?

Why wasn't there an audit ? Why give a man such huge amount and go and sleep ? Abeg somthjng doesn't add up .

Here's what I think happened - Jonathan wanted it for his election , so he and the NSA planned to rip off the money to be used for development to campaign .

  50. I believe there was a part where they said there was a committee and there was documentation.
So, the issue of Dasuki diverting funds is still pending.
Dasuki should bring evidence that he bought the ammunition.
    What's the noise about?
This whole trial is getting ridiculous.
Now that you know the source of the funds and that it was rightly approved, can the man now prove that he did acquire the goods ordered. If he can't then he will account for it.

Certain things people call for imprisonment about is not even 'criminal'. That the executive acted beyond its powers is disobedience of the constitution which isn't criminal or punishable by jailing. Its punishable by impeachment of the president or removal of the minister. That someone used money slated for another thing for a more pressing matter is not a crime but impunity. People just think that because it's wrong, it's a crime. A country in war times takes drastic measure.

What we should be worried about now aside from people accounting for funds is for the present administration to be accountable. Cos the present is more important than the past, don't be hoodwinked by propaganda or distractions. Ask Buhari and his cabinet to account for every penny spent before and after ministers were appointed, so we can avoid the rubbish that happened in the past

  53. Jonathan was is just a rogue, ready to milk the nation dry and he wanted to continue the looting, what a shame. If you assign a job to someone and he failing and you do not about it, you are equally guilty. Its a shame some people here still believed Jona adminstration is been hunted even with all this evidence.

  55. All their secrets are coming out. To be honest Jonathan cant say he was unaware of all dese things..........but if EFCC should carry Jonathan now they will say its witch hunting. Its really sad how 1/3percent of d population can just be sharing what is meant to prosper d whole nation.
See the classrooms dey showed in the documentary yesterday in d North, how d students where sitting on d floor. D roof spoilt everything, Nigeria is a blessed country wit lots of resources. But they all go into private hands.
You go to a govt hospital, you buy ur own needle, syringe, even cotton wool. Its sad, you see ppl begging on d street, dey need just like 200k for a surgery. That same money a governor is dashing it to a lady as transport fare. its sad
