Spanish model Mireia Lalaguna Royo was named Miss World 2015 on Saturday in Sanya, an island resort off the southern coast of China.
The 23-year-old hails from Barcelona and is studying pharmacology in hopes of pursuing a master's degree in nutrition. She is the first Spanish contestant to take the Miss World crown.
Judges were reportedly impressed with Royo's public speaking skills, as reported by ET Online.
Shortly after being crowned, Royo took to Instagram to show her appreciation for the win. "The start of a new [journey]... I'm so proud to be the new Miss World 2015, I can't wait for this amazing year," she wrote on Saturday.
Russia's Sofia Nikitchuk came in second in the pageant, while Miss Indonesia, Maria Harfanti, took third. Victoria Mendoza, the Arizona model representing the United States, failed to make the top 20.
This year's pageant saw some controversy, as China would not allow Canada's contestant, Anastasia Lin, to attend the event. The country refused her visa, and she was therefore unable to board her connecting flight from Hong Kong to Sanya.
Lin was born in China and has been outspoken against the country's religious policies.
This was the seventh time China has hosted the competition since 2003.

DeleteShe looks like a Queen indeed. Congrats to her. I know one day Nigeria will wear the crown again.
ReplyDeleteShe's a Spanish beauty. I was to contest in the Kenyan Paegentry this year but I spent so much time in Atlanta & missed the deadline. A black girl out to wear the miss world crown once a while! #blackdon'tcrack!!!
ReplyDeleteLucinda
You're getting annoying.
DeleteThe girl looks so old abi is it plastic surgery..... She has won the crown already no body can take it off her head...
ReplyDeleteSerious miracle, maybe in our next world.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't look 23years old, also, it will really take a while!! They only chose light skinned gals now in an array of other lighter skinned gals, how do they expect them to stand out?? Even Agbani's hair Stood out from others.
ReplyDeleteI dnt see anyone fro naija winning too, I trust the whites not to make the mistake again
ReplyDeleteThe whites? Are you high? Or just an uneducated retard?
DeleteI totally agree with you stella.i don't understand the kind of winners silver bird group produce.e be like say na by who kpanch pass.or who get connection pass.*side eyes*
ReplyDeleteI agree with you stella.e be like say na who get connection pass or who kpanch pass dey win.*side eyes*
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winner
ReplyDeleteDon't mind Silver bird and other Pageant organisers. Miss Nigeria was talking like an mgbeke in that video of her u posted sometime ago
ReplyDeleteYes Stella. A miracle that will happen in 2016
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you stella, indeed a big miracle. All these ladies that are pick for mbgn can only win in nigeria nowhere else. Light skin or being bi-polar does not always spell beauty or a representation of African beauty
ReplyDeleteNawaooo China just spoilt the canadian contestant's chances...and as for our Nigerian Queens, they are more interested in being BabyMamas than pursuing their careers...stella I'm back and u must enjoy me
ReplyDeletehmmmmm
ReplyDeletetrue talk stella.
Nigeria and their politics.

DeleteI would have loved it if Miss Lebanon won this. She is more beautiful than this winner sha. Agbani ia a legendary winner. It will really be difficult getting someone like her. The industry is already consumed with corruption and ojoro in their choices.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter will be the next miss Nigeria.. that's likee 23 yrs to come. Lol
ReplyDeleteMy daughter will be the next miss Nigeria and probably be the next nigerian miss world.. that's likee 23 yrs to come. Lol
ReplyDeleteFine girls una well done ooo
ReplyDeleteWhen will Nigeria ever snag this again? When???????????? *sobbing*
ReplyDeleteStella I so agree with u. I think that franchise of MBGN should be giving to more serious organisation. Silverbird with the way they r going can never produce any miss world.
ReplyDeleteI'm a model so I know what's up with the bribery, corruption n xes game going on there.
She's not dat fine sef ....so miss nigeria no even reach anywhere *shior*
ReplyDelete23? where? how? Look more like 43
ReplyDeleteCongrats to her.
ReplyDeleteMiss Lebanon deserve to win the crown
ReplyDeleteThe selection of right winners is one thing, the second thing is that these girls are not adequately trained before they represent us internationally. They are not taught how to walk well, how to express themselves confidently, their styling is also very poor. This is what silverbird should be attending to. And they need to fire that Juliette Hagerman of a woman, she has killed MBGN, I don't know what she's doing! And please too, they should stop giving them those tacky Rikaotobyme dresses, last two years Anna Banner's evening gown for miss world no reach ground, we could see her shoes, last year was a total disaster, same with this year. There are too many talented designers in Nigeria for our queens to go out there and look a mess each year.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you this time @stella
ReplyDeleteThey should start looking out 4 beautifully black girls not all this recycled yellow pawpaw
Unoaku isn't fine sef
Stella you are absolutely RIGH
ReplyDelete@SHB
This is sad, Stella you did not bother to mention who represented Nigeria? Does it mean Silverbird selects the "one that offered vjay most"?
ReplyDeleteI t0ld u guys dat dat babe aint g0ing n0 wia. Shey una d0ne see. Mtcheeeeeew
ReplyDeleteCongrats to her.
ReplyDeleteCongrats world Queen
