NIGERIAN Catholics are preparing to celebrate the unveiling of its largest statue, a 28-foot effigy of Jesus Christ, it has been reported.
The monument has been named Jesus de Greatest and will be unveiled at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in the Abajah local government area of Imo state on New Year's Day, according to Cable.ng.
The statue will be the fifth tallest statue in Africa and was funded and offered to the church by local businessman Obinna Onuoha, founder of Premier Petroleum Limited.
A statement by Onuoha’s representative confirmed that the project, which has taken two years to complete, was in its final stages.
Onuoha, a devout Catholic and a graduate of York St. Johns University in the UK and the Harvard Business School, originally hails from Abajah.
While no details of the sculpter have been confirmed, the soon-to-be iconic statue is reported to weigh in at 40 tonnes and is made entirely of marble.
It will be the largest monument to the Christian figure on the continent.
The world’s tallest statue of Jesus is ‘Christ the King’, which is located in western Poland, Ĺwiebodzin, and stands at a recording breaking height of 172 feet.
The most iconic statue, however, is 'Christ the Redeemer', a symbol of Christianity across the world. The statue has become a cultural icon of both Rio de Janeiro and Brazil where it is located, and is listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
The statue is only 98 feet tall - not including its 26 foot pedestal.

Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt - 66 feet
Temple of Ramses II in Egypt – 30 feet

ReplyDeleteExodus 20:4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

ReplyDeleteI will go there and take pictures.
Tony is back.
DeleteWhere is Phrinkies?
So happy for that!
ReplyDeleteOh not again!!!! Jesus is not white with long hairs....... Where are those people who claimed to have seen him in a trance?
ReplyDeleteDont mind em. White people would never have brought Christianity to enslave us only for them to say; "you know what black people, Jesus is actually black". It would have sent the wrong message and also put the idea of white power in jeopardy.
DeleteMy people is Amadioha a white man, a black man or an albino?
Even those who have seen him in trance never get to see his face as he will always covered with bright light. Read revelations very well and you would have a picture of what Jesus would look like in trance or to those he appeared to
DeleteYeah!!! When I say him in trance ... I couldn't see his face! The light was so bright that I can't explain how bright it is!
DeleteAmadioha is an albino, almost a European
DeleteIt's Nt hw tall d Jesus stature is outside, it's how well they serve God in their hearts
ReplyDeletePeople can form de Love God but their hearts are filled wit evil. May the Lord help us all

ReplyDeleteI don't understand the essences of these images. Well, what do I know.
ReplyDeleteI think there one in Kumasi, Ghana.
Oho, that one is a peace conference tree.
I've never fancied all these images of Christ. All I know is Christ rules. Congrats to the Catholics.
ReplyDeleteHow come we never heard when it was being constructed????
ReplyDeleteBtw why is it that all ambode has done in Lagos so far it to buy new police cars?? Apart from the Ford cars for the RRS there are others too. I saw one parked here at the island. A huge truck and fear catch me. The thing looks like a war machine. Everybody was just looking at it.
Now I spot another car but looks like a very upgraded hilux. Is that what we need? New police cars? Lagos is getting dirty. He needs to do something about that. The police need re training. All of them. In batches. If he has the power to do it it should be done. Not new cars everywhere. Like that will change the price of the toll gate fee we keep paying here msteww
Stella post my comment oh. U swallowed my ihn comment yesterday
Maybe he wants to employ police ad cleaners
DeleteHow is retraining of the police Ambode's forte?
DeleteAll you guys will just be typing rubbish. You can never appreciate anything.

World people...Rome wasn't built in one day!.it takes time.

DeleteIdol worship!!!
ReplyDeleteThou shall not worship any other god except me.
They just molded a statue and named it after our lord Jesus, that's simply what this is!
The israelites did the same in the days of old and that's how we don't know what's in the first set of commandments God gave Moses till date.
Repent! 4 our God is a jealous God!
Gbam!
DeleteGBAAAAM!!!!!! End time idolatry.
DeleteThe same image that is still being debated & doubted?
ReplyDeleteThese pple sef! All these statues & crucifix, irrespective of the sizes ain't gonna guarantee salvation.
Since we all don't know what 'HE' looks like, me thinks this is just another waste of time, energy & resources!!!
*Ghanaman signing out*

Good development
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Though In the end, it's not about having the tallest statue of Jesus Christ. It's really about having Him stand tall in our hearts and allowing our behaviours and attitudes to Christ like.

ReplyDeleteHow does this change lives? Dis shouldn't be a priority for us? They should focus on building schools, houses for homeless pple, building lives. There are so many people who could benefit from a fraction of what is being spent building dis statue. Nigerians are only interested in keeping up appearance. Mediocre nation with mediocre leaders ruling mediocre people!!
ReplyDeleteWow!

ReplyDeleteok
ReplyDeleteAny news about Jesus makes me smile. I love you Lord.
ReplyDeleteHmmm
ReplyDeleteI hate it so much when something is done and people talk about how many lives that money used for that thing will change
ReplyDeleteIt annoys me a lot
Do you know the kind of changing lives they are doing everyday
Catholics have a lot of school, orphanages, hospitals and health care and you are still asking they use the little money for this to change lives
You think if everyone put their money into changing lives that there wouldn't be poor people among us?? There will always be poor people
Poor people will forever be among us. We all will never ever be equal
So enough with all the changing lives story biko because you don't know how much life they are changing already
Mr philanthropist, what is the meaning of this ? This is nonsense. What will the staue add to the life if people around there ? Blind people wirshoing statue.
ReplyDeleteImplying that the white Man is God to the Blacks people..
ReplyDeleteWhite supremacy is a group phenomenon.
I employ you all to do some research on the so called missionaries that came to Africa in the name of Christianity. Most of them were CIA agents and psychologists.
So all these they continue to brain was us with, are part of a designed phenomenon to continue to enslave us and rape us of our culture, religion and resources.
*sigh Lord hAve mercy
