The Federal Government has unveiled mobile training units for internally displaced persons, IDPs, in the country.
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, commissioned the facilities in Abuja at the weekend.
She said the facilities would in no small way help the realisation of the present administration’s poverty reduction programme.
She said the government would continually give support to technical and vocational training, stressing that “our economy must be based on sound education.
Japan, India and the Asian tiger countries advanced their economies through technical skills and vocational education, and are now world technology giants; it is because they placed such training at the front row of their national development.”
Speaking earlier, Director General of Industrial Training Fund, ITF, Dr. Juliet Chukkas Onaeko, whose institution is responsible for implementation of the IDPs’ training project, explained that the facilities would provide skills for job components in areas of cap knitting, basic tailoring, workshops on dry season farming, computer appreciation and refrigerator repairs.
“This is part of our target of training about two million people per annum with the skills needed for employment and we would continuously drive this process of building capacity,” Onaeko stated.
She reiterated the readiness of ITF to achieve its mandate of providing a pool of indigenous trained manpower sufficient to meet the needs of the private and public sectors.

ReplyDeleteVery good one but hope there are plans for maintenance and continuity. Plans should be made to make the structures permanent and not the mobile ones that can be moved whenever.
