Ibori Replies Ribadu From Prison.

Former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has replied erstwhile chairman of Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, on his famous claim that he (Ibori) approached him with $15million to stop his investigation.

Ibori described the claim as horrible, revolting, nasty and totally untrue.

Ribadu, in a recent interview, insisted that Ibori pressurized him with several billions to sweep his case under the carpet.

Ibori while reacting to the claim through a statement by his media assistant, Tony Eluemunor, described Ribadu’s claim as watery and laughable.

He said, “As the Senate and some security agencies appear to be asking questions about some unwholesome events at the EFCC, including the mismanagement and criminal diversion of funds from the sale of confiscated properties into personal pockets, Ribadu may have a need to attempt to burnish his fading image, fearing the investigations may ask questions about events during his tenure.

“But he should be told that lying, against even an enemy, just to gain some unearned applause and perhaps fence off some approaching investigation and image disaster, must have a limit,” the statement said.

Ribadu had stated that: “Ibori approached me with $15million to stop his investigation. I called my people because the money was in big bags, which two people could not carry and we deposited it in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as evidence against him”.

According to Eluemunor, “This nonsensical statement has remained in the public domain only because some people have suspended their sense of disbelief and condemned themselves to every hogwash that Ribadu invents in the attempt spruce himself up in borrowed plums”.

“It is on record that Ribadu has made at least five statements over this same claim, and no single one agreed with another. Also both Ibrahim Lamorde (the immediate past EFCC Chairman) and one James Garba, a CBN staff then seconded to the EFCC, made police statements which contradicted Ribadu’s.

“Even Senator Andy Uba said in a statement that EFCC collected the said money from his house.

Dailypost reportage.

A man that is down needs fear no fall,I guess that is why Ibori has replied.
Ribadu should provide proof of when the money was lodged in as evidence to clear the air.

*sigh*...I am wondering why prosecuting other looters is taking so long,Ibori was used as a perfect example to teach a lesson but i think its time someone else gets the same treatment, the cases of  monies looted after Ibori makes him look like an Angel really!

  17. Hear you Stella. No matter the amount of money stolen, no looter should be idolised.

Seems Ibori has refused to learn his lessons.

  18. This exactly what I was saying on some post yesterday. The noise from this people is getting too much, they should quietly get their facts and formally charge all of them instead of whipping up baseless accusations and ridiculous amounts. Some gave you 15million DOLLARS, how? and you claim you refused, how? God would deliver the naive Nigerians that even believe all their lies. Happy feast of Immaculate Conception everyone!!!!

  29. From the comments I've read so far, I can see that many BVs don't know the history of this story. For the benefit of those that don't know the story pls visit these links and see for yourself who is telling the truth. http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/book-reviews/us-based-profs-new-book-spills-details-on-ribadu-ibori-$15m-bribe-saga.html ; http://saharareporters.com/2012/08/30/ibori%E2%80%99s-15-million-bribe-funds-andy-uba-chibuike-achigbu-beat-retreat .
Sometime before the end of Ibori's tenure as governor in 2007, he reached out to Ribadu promising to settle him if he could stop the criminal investigation against him at the EFCC. Ribadu played along and a meeting was agreed. At the meeting which took place in Senator Andy Uba's house, Ibori handed over $15m to Ribadu which he immediately deposited at the CBN as exhibit against Ibori. This is not the first time this issue is raising its head, all of it is in public domain. As we speak, the money is still being held in the CBN vaults. Ibori is a serial liar and a big thief. He clearly hasn't learnt anything from his time in the British jailhouse.
