HIV - 2.9 Million HIV Positive Nigerians Are Not On Treatment

WHAT!!!!

AN estimated 2.9 million people living with HIV/AIDS out of 3.4 million Nigerians diagnosed last year are not receiving treatment needed to suppress the infection. Those affected, most of who are currently living in hiding, are not only at risk of death from HIV related illnesses, but are also infecting new people, causing a surge of the disease.

Nigerian HIV experts revealed this at a scientific symposium to mark this year’s World AIDS Day, organised by the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, NIMR, in collaboration with Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Lagos branch.

In her submission, representative of the Population Council Abuja, Dr. Sylvia Adebajo noted that only 500,000 people are currently on treatment, while the 2.9 million largely men, serve as reservoir for the spread of HIV.

She claims it is an attack (spiritual). A fool indeed. Her health has started deteriorating. She waka come yesterday come meet me for help. Went back and check and its still positive. Now eager to take drugs.

  10. Abstinence n extreme carefulness for those of us who are often exposed to objects that can be infectious eg clippers(for barbing, carving), blades, syringes etc. If possible, always buy yours and take with you.

  21. Almost three million persons, ke. That number pass the population of some countries in the world, nnah. Marsha Allah, this is serious-o. And, what is the govt, specifically, the health ministry doing about this public health challenge with very wide/far reaching implications for the rest of the country?

  22. Sadly most ladies are more scared of getting pregnant out off wedlock than contracting HIV.
What we have these days are just bunch of stupid people that think with their down below respectively.

Go get tested 2day and save yourself the stress

    1. My dear ...what more do you want the ministry of health to do?..most people even when told they are positive choose not to accept diagnosis but prefer to live in denial or some go on a revenge spree by spreading it to all and sundry. There is awareness zip up ..condoms usage. .and all....but they can't force people to believe...
If people can believe malaria is real why can't they believe HIV is real...it baffles me

    2. Imagine your ignorance and stupidity! What really is 2.9m as compared with the population of Nigeria? And with the rate at which people fuck around, rape, commit incest and all these days, such people use barbing salons and share needles at dressing salons, how long, really, does it take before 3m people get infected?

      Delete
    3. Dont mind them, they just want to scare people. Its not correct jor. If dey had said 500, 000 people from last year are not taking their treatment i will believe

    4. Estimated population in Nigeria as at July 1 2014 is roughly 178.5 million .
To break it down 3.4 million were found to be living with the virus doesn't mean they contacted it last year.they only got tested last year..and only roughly 500000 are receiving treatment based on the data of drugs issued out and 2.9 are not on drugs..

Sweethearts you all need to visit HIV clinics and see the crowd of people there ,it's a beehive.
I know a lot of patients that even after diagnosis and testing ,stigmatization and non -acceptance of what is ,makes them abscond. .
Truth is, before we query that data we should look inward and observe preventive measures.
In as much as I don't fault your train of thought just bear it in mind that if the data were to be accurately taken you would be surprised that this figure shown up there were grossly underestimated.

  27. why wont most men be hiv positive? when women have accepted cheating from men as a way of life thereby spreading the virus like wildfire. All these women that think its ok for their men to cheat are all hiv positive with their husbands, that is why they keep saying all men cheat bla bla cos they want other women to allow their hubby to cheat so that the virus will keep increasing knowing that they are not alone. single girls pls dont marry men that cheat for ur own good, the signs are always there but riches block most women's eyes from seeing. there are still faithful men out there, do ur selves a favour and get one cos most women with cheating hubbies are all hiv, but they cover up with ''all men cheat'' lie lie, not all men cheat pls.

  29. Even if I preach abstinence many won't hear so insist on condom ladies even if that guy is over handsome. To know them -
Men: (1) They will never use condom but will tell you that skin to skin is the koko and that you'll enjoy it bla bla bla, then the mumu ones will fall in... (

Ladies: (2) They don't care or border about condom but ready to give you back and front as you desire. This is how some married men contact it.

    1. Sweetheart you can't use your centre alone to judge ....Let's be realistic....700 is just 0.14 % of 500000...that's not even up to 1% of the said falsified data..you can't use that figment to brand the data collectors liars or truth tellers either....no one is fooling anyone here my dear ....The truth is HIV carriers are on the rise ..We all know it but choose not to accept that fact..brandishing these peeps as liars doesn't change the fact that HIV is spreading like wild fire.
