FG Says Poor Economic Situation,Naira Depreciation Consequences Of Past Mismanagement,Massive Looting

The Federal Government has said the poor state of the country's economy, especially the depreciation in the Naira exchange rate, is the direct consequence of the incomprehensible mismanagement of the economy and the mindless looting of the national treasury under the immediate past Administration, rather than any so-called mismanagement by the Buhari Administration

''If there was still any honour left among thieves, there is no way the leaders of a party under whose watch the nation's economy suffered a monumental mismanagement and the Central Bank was turned to the ATM or piggy bank of a few people will have the temerity to insult a government that is working hard to turn things around or the citizens who are bearing the brunt of such mismanagement,'' the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement on Sunday.

''It is now clear to all Nigerians that if the PDP had won the last general elections, Nigeria's economy would not have survived one more month, considering the battering it received under the immediate past Administration. It is therefore unconscionable that those who should show contrition and hunker down to avoid public opprobrium are the same ones pointing an accusing finger at the Buhari Administration,'' he said.

Alhaji Mohammed described the comments credited to Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, that businesses maycollapse in the next six months because the Buhari Administration has mismanaged the economy, as the clearest indication yet that the PDP and its leaders are still in denial about the massive body blows they inflicted on the Nigerian economy.

''Senator Ekweremadu complained about the depreciation of the Naira without telling Nigerians who 'dollarized' the Nigerianeconomy by bribing many individuals and groups with dollars during the last elections, thus inflicting a knock-out punch on the local currency. He also failed to tell Nigerians which government presided over the frenzied mop-up of dollars, either for 'armsgate' or for slush fund purposes, from the CBN to a point where it almost ran out of the hard currency,'' he said

The Minister said even though the Buhari Administration met an economy that was in coma, it had refused to use that as an excuse for inaction, hence has been working hard on measures that will turn the economy around and greatly offer relief to Nigerians by lifting millions, not thousands, of people out of poverty through a massive social intervention policy.

''The outcome of the months of hard work will manifest soon in the 2016 national budget that will give succour to millions ofNigerians who are reeling from fallout of the solecism of the immediate past Administration that turned the country into a cash bazaar,'' the Minister said.

He advised the leaders of the PDP and members of the immediate past administration who are involved in the emerging cases of looting binge to urgently return, to government coffers, the funds they have squirreled out of the commonwealth.

''They are lucky that Nigerians are not as incautious as they are, otherwise they would not be able to walk around freely, not to talk of having the effrontery to fire darts at the government that inherited their rot or the people who are suffering the consequences.

''They looted the billions of Naira that were allocated for the fight against insurgency, causing many innocent and patrioticsoldiers to die needlessly, yet they are not remorseful. They looted the treasury to influence the last elections, doling out money as if it was going out of fashion, yet they continue to grandstand.

''In the latest revelation, a Minister under the immediate past dispensation admitted to sharing 600 million Naira to six Chairmen of the Contact and Mobilization Committee of the PDP for the last general elections, 300 million Naira to an account given by a former PDP chairman, 200 million Naira to a PDP governorship candidate and 100 million Naira to a former PDP governor. This is just one case out of many, yet these revelations are but a tip of the iceberg of what Nigerians will hear in the days ahead,'' Alhaji Mohammed said.

The Minister assured that despite the mind-boggling revelations about looting and the mismanagement by self-styled economic wizards, the economy will bounce back under the watch of President Muhammadu Buhari, who is bringing probity and transparency back into governance.

    1. I am personally tired of all these BLAMES!!! True without them we won't understand the country's pocket and what was left by the last administration! All thesame, enough already! Start WORKING your own. I refuse to believe there is NOTHING left to survive this country.

I wanted a fresh government, but most definitely not Buhari (same old men). But what could one do since that was the only fresh breath available?

He shouldn't fall his hands. Just start WORK... I know u will ask with what? I say with our MONEY. Nigeria is not as broke as they are painting it. Stylish diversion to loot their own is all I see.

      May God help Nigeria

  3. Only morons would doubt this. Jona supervised 6 yrs of the highest crude oil prices in history. It was clearly not going to last. Instead of developing infrastructure and building reserves for lean times, they went on a looting spree. Now my people r suffering for it and screaming the wrong name. At the same time, their real tormentor is called a "hero" and they'll call anyone who disagrees with them all sorts of names. My people perish for lack of knowledge.

Remind me when the budget for 2015 was implemented again? Meanwhile, they had spent most part of the budget on campaigns. You can blame and even demand Buhari's impeachment if by 2016 when they have full control of the budget, you still hear these complaints.

  12. They claimed they destroyed the country is 16yrs, yet things were never this bad. Food items had never been cheaper until gej came into power. Fuel scarcity always resolved in less than a week. They were 'stealing' but we never really felt d impact.
Then this mumu came into power and in just six months achieved what the pdp even in their gross mismanagement were never able to do... Turning the country upside down. I heard on radio that basket of tomatoes that used to be 9100 at mile 12 is now 13,500, bag of rice has gone from 8-10k to 13-15k. onions be as expensive as meat and all these ppl keep giving is excuses upon excuses.

Every single promise they made during the elections, they have come out shamefully to deny it, all he has achieved in 6months is chasing shadows claiming he wants to recover looted funds. Like funds were not looted before the previous administration and they still managed to keep d country afloat.
Well, after 1 or 2yrs, I'm sure whatever is left of ur dumb supporters will finally realise, u are not only clueless but even more clueless than they claimed the previous admin is.

Any money that flows now has to be genuinely worked for... not the "monkey dey work baboon dey chop" period we experienced. Look at how much they've taken from the coffers of the country.. just add up the billions we've been hearing.. it was damn too much abeg. Now that Buhari is trying to ensure that government work becomes less attractive to thieves, people are complaining there's hardship.

  26. The minister is not far from the truth. The keyword is "probity" will restore sanity in governance and the populace.

The PDP looted everything and resorted to printing Naira which is responsible for the inflation we're inevitable going to have to deal with.

The current fiscal policy by the Finance Minister, Mrs. Adeosun, should be sustained until all hidden hard currency (think of Akpabio's room full of dollars) are returned and the spirited defense budgets of $1bn/yr for 6yrs (plus $1bn vanished loan) are accounted for. Meanwhile, those willingly returning funds should be encouraged to do so as that will elevate the immediate cash crunch occasioned by falling oil prices.

That said, a clear-cut economic blueprint and focused vision for a long-term recovery of the economy needs urgently be stated to calm frayed investor nerves... it's not enough pointing fingers of blame in all directions, this APC Govt. will get it right if the PDP keep their mouths shut and heads lowered with remorse!!!

Everyone know that all we are facing today is due to mismanagement and the high level of corruption in the last administration.when these shameless pdp people abandoned our naira and were doling dollars like it was going out of fashion yet some nitwit will come and be defending them , it seems we are the ones that encourage all these(corruption et al) because of our attitude of " no be only him dey chop , others done chop before him" for christ sake, evil is evil and simply because others were not held accountable in the past does not mean we must allow this level of rot to go on.
We must make up our minds on what we want by standing up to our social responbilities and begin hold those who govern us accountable without allowing sentimenents to becloud our judgements.

  32. Why don't they focus on the issues at hand? The reason the naira is depreciating is simple...falling oil prices. If the price of oil was $200 per barrel, will they say they say the past administration was responsible for the resultant availability of dollars? what we need is an economic policy to help the country to bear the loss of revenue from oil. All governments from Shagari's time looted our treasury massively, but cos of the improvement in oil revenue, we always survived. Now, however prices have fallen and instead of thinking of ways to handle the situation, they are blaming the past admin. Is it that OBJ's admin did not loot the treasury? or abacha's time or IBB? All we need in Nigeria is total repentance. An average Nigerian is dishonest, except very few. If you think I am lying, try your cook, nurse, engineer, plumber, doctor, teacher, etc. Many Nigerians do not believe in living within their means. They always want something from the corners.

Our economy is too dependent. Okonjo has told Nigerians what to do to get it right. Apc take her advice.
