The Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi stated this during a fact-finding tour of facilities and agencies at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday....
He said that the Federal Government is planning to privatise the Lagos, Abuja, PortHarcourt and Kano airports.According to him the essence of the privatization was to ensure efficiency and good management in view of limited resources at the disposal of the government for infrastructural development in the aviation industry.
He further issued a December 2016 deadline for the completion of the four major international airport terminals under construction in Lagos, Abuja,
Port Harcourt and Kano.

Is this great news?#BOO
They don come again o, help us beg them oo
ReplyDelete*Larry was here*
Am so dumb on this one, can someone pls explain?
DeleteNoooooo, they will extorts the masses more!
DeleteIt is Stella. The airports will function better and it will create more job opportunities. It will also increase competition for all international airports as better functions would mean international flights would have more options, not always landing in Lagos.
DeleteAnytime I think about the aviation sector in Nigeria it saddens my heart that our government cannot even maintain an independent national carrier. Look at all the defunct aircrafts we've had over a decade. Yet, Nigerians are the most travelled all over the world. Foreign carriers make huge monies from our aviation sector alone.
DeleteAnd one would wonder why the Nigerian government cannot invest into a few aircrafts to at least generate income from it, and of course create employment.
Anywhere Nigerians are gathered, u can be rest assured that the aviation sector around them will blossom. Cos we travel like crazy.
We have been leasing planes and allowing others reap enormously from what should be our pride and avenue to increase our dwindling finances.
We aid the likes of Richard Branson and others to smile to the bank, while they trample on us on their own terms, in our own country. Isn't that a national disgrace?
And looking inwards, the likes of Jimoh Ibrahim, who were given the opportunity and licensed as private investors in aviation, succeeded in sinking the Nigerian aviation sector into further shambles. The likes of Wale babalakin that was given the contract to remodel the MM2 or whatever, collected monies from the fed government and for years could not deliver what was awarded him.. becos he (his company) spent the monies and no bank was willing to loan them money to do a job they were already paid to do but failed to execute. No bank wanted to run at a loss. Who suffered it in the end?
Another contractor was hired. Meaning, the monies paid the previous went to waste. Whose monies? Go figure
Yet no one was reprimanded for this, the aviation minister of the day looked the other way. That is why the airport is half completed and is a mess. These were private individuals. So suffice to say that we've been enjoying traveling by air becos of foreign carriers/investors.
What the federal government needs to do in this regard, is to invest into buying a few aircrafts to serve as a national carrier. Like the defunct Nigeria airways of blessed memories. They should go back to the drawing board, consult with aviation experts, set rules against undue licencing and privatisation of aircraft operators, both locally and internationally, implement rules that'll invoke huge fines, legal prosecution, and revoking of licences against trespassers. Then they'd realise how much income proper management of our transport/aviation system can generate within a short time.
It is a very important ministry that cannot be ignored, becos Nigerians travel a lot. I will continue to say this, that the most vital ministries in any country is the health and the aviation sectors. If these two are mismanaged, such a country is finished.
Anyway I don talk too much, biko na xmas we dey.
OK bye
It's great news for me.
ReplyDeleteThe scanners don't work. They will be scattering you belongings just to know what you have in it.
They will tell you to come an pay for Duty for personal belongings.
Hopefully it won't be like privatization of phcn
DeleteMy dear I don't trust Nigerians and privatization ooo.. d phcn is already a costly mistake. Now this?????
DeleteI don't think so, this is another avenue for the already rich to amass more wealth, because they will end up not using due process and selling it off to the already rich people like the dangotes and the rest...just my opinion though
ReplyDeleteThis is thesame thing they did with PHCN lets watch and see how this will end
DeleteHmmmmmm. Dnt get it
ReplyDeleteIts a great news oh, Stella u need to visit pH airport u would understand better. Things work better in this country wen they re managed by private individuals.
ReplyDeleteI tell you. That PH airport is shaming. Abi is it when they physically go to the aircrafts and bring out the boxes.
DeleteSoon Nigeria will be privatise. hope for naija
ReplyDeleteOk cool
ReplyDeleteOur airports are a disgrace
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a good news.
ReplyDeleteTake for instance d privatisation of Nepa and it's subsequent outrageous bill.
As it stands,d airport itself is in a shiity situation. Lastweek i went 2pick a frnd @MMA,you won't believe after parking @d car park,we were made to pay 200naira 4d airport shuttle abi bus and when we aksed about d alleged free bus,we were told there wasn't fuel in it.
Now imagine when it becomes privatised...y'all know d situation will be worse
I agree with you Elena,do u watch telemundo, elena ghost kikikikikik
DeleteI disagree, bidding mare with corruption made those past privatizations look bad....
DeleteFor our country to move forward, facilities management has to be in the private hands.
Capitalism is the way forward!!!
Kill corruption and get it right
For the first time I think Amaechi doesn't mean well for this country, this is just another way of getting all their campaign money back.take for instance y privatizing the viable airports y not the not so viable ones.they are just interested in the revenue of this big airports nothing more.
DeleteNot funny but I think is the best . The airport is a disgrace try harder
ReplyDeleteIts a national business and it should remain so
ReplyDeleteVery good!!! Abuja Airport is huge joke when it comes to security, all the security officials do is to scamper for tips, from immigration, customs to faan all they do is tout!!!
ReplyDeleteTry PH airport. U'll see that Abj officials are good.
DeleteGreat news, it cant be any worst than it already is, so stressful travelling and returning, whenever I'm due to travel back its the airport stress that will be on my mind days before
ReplyDeleteMy own b say let them bring National Carrier
ReplyDeleteMay God help Nigerians
ReplyDeleteHmmmm! Is this d change?
ReplyDeleteOK o, Let's just hope this works
ReplyDeleteNawa
ReplyDeleteIt's a great news at least it'll be managed well
ReplyDeleteWell.. Noted
ReplyDeleteThis is the best news. Or airports are in a shambles and the worst in the world. I don't care if a few people get rich, at least there'll be more efficiency and functionality. For starters all those broken down escalators and air conditioners in MMA will be repaired. The airports is the first impression one makes about a country and believe me ours is an eyesore
ReplyDeleteI pity u its obvious u are in the dark.wat about all the public institutions that has been privatized wat are their fate today, they sell to their cronies and friends.if u mean well start from the other airports before rushing to privatize the big ones. I am beginning to suspect this Amaechi and his cohorts.
DeleteEra of privatization, whichever way, God please see us through. The end result is all we look forward to. Positive Nigeria, positive 2016
ReplyDeleteI prefer it being privatized tho!
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one.
ReplyDeleteTake the lagos local airport for example.
Everything works and it's environment is appealing.
If this is what will make our airport conducive, then they should go ahead.
ehen
ReplyDelete#GODWIN™
So govt cant maintain her property. Stella itz horrible news o
ReplyDeleteWill it help
ReplyDeleteIt s suppsoed to be good news if the airports are given to reputable companies to manage but as usual these same rogues in government will buy and it will be business as usual. The same old rubbish.
ReplyDeleteOkay
ReplyDeleteAmaechi you too want to privatise. You guys are not different from PDP. Very soon we will privatise Aso Rock. Then I will know d seriousness
ReplyDeleteIn the long run we will end up happy.
ReplyDeleteFailed Government!
ReplyDeleteWe wey never enter airport before we have nothing to say oh....nah daily bread persin dey find u dey talk of airport privatization!!!....Lol
ReplyDeleteMust they privatize everything???? They should use stolen money to repair that place...

***CURRENTLY IN JUPITER***
So nigerian government cannot maintain nigeria properties.. why privatise the airports? So that the already rich people will get richer? And the poor masses can't afford to fly. So our government can't maintain theses airports? With all the money we have in this country? .. ok pls ca we sell nigeria to Chinese people so that they can maintain nigeria properly.. sigh
ReplyDeleteI won't be surprised if one day, the federal govt decides to privatise the Nigerian Police Force.
ReplyDeleteThey have come again ,so federal government of Nigeria can not manage their property hmm
ReplyDeletesome people are just daft here ooo.... is it not obvious that Nigerians are nonchalant for government property, the state of our airports, stadiums etc are due to our attitude towards govt properties. The government has proved to be inefficient over the years in maintaining facilities. So pls privatize the airports but to serious minded companies. abeg
ReplyDeleteGood! Cos evidently the government can't handle its maintenance. Lagos intl airport is one of the worst International airports in the world
ReplyDeleteNot good news, it will still end up in the hands of those Shylock. Nepa abi Phcn how far after privatization, no light still and tariff kept increasing.
