Embattled Director of Radio Biafra and leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu was today Wednesday discharged by a Chief Magistrate Court in Wise 2, Abuja led by Shuaibu Usman of all counts of criminal conspiracy and ownership of an unlawful society brought against him by the federal government.
Delivering the verdict after the federal government had dropped the charges brought against Kanu, the judge ruled that, “The accused person is hereby discharged and the case struck out.”
The Department of State Services (DSS) had withdrawn the case from the Chief Magistrate Court so as to pursue the case in a higher court, which has jurisdiction to entertain charges bordering on terrorism.
Usman was scheduled to deliver judgment on the application of the DSS on December 1, but he put it off until December 16.
DAILY POST recalls that Kanu has spent at least 90 days in the custody of the DSS, despite an order from the magistrate court granting him bail in October.
The DSS got an order from the Federal High Court to keep the IPOB leader imprisoned despite been granted bail by the lower court.

Hope he learnt his lessons.
ReplyDeleteStella sometimes I don't get you...Which one is 5 mins of fame did he tell you he was looking for fame. DeleteThey are taking him to a higher court. DSS is not releasing him.
DeleteStella your story is incomplete the suit was discontinued at the magistrate court so that the DSS can file more serious charges at the Hugh Court
DeleteThey have an agreement.
DeleteI beg this dude should go and find somewhere to sleep. He's annoying me. And that grin on his face put me off some more. Why cause so much confusion when u can do it the right way? No one is asking u not to wish what u like, but jeopardising the lives of innocent people shouldn't be part of the deal. Now a few have lost their lives becos of the nonsense u started. Rubbish
DeleteThank God. At least there won't be a protest here today.
ReplyDeleteNigerian govt doesn't just release someone like that! This is a ploy, that ain't finished with him yet.

ReplyDeleteGood.
ReplyDeleteThank God
Let him come and tell ue the way forward biko. Biafra agitation must continue whether una like it or not. Simple. Lol
ReplyDeleteNo Stella don't getbit wrong. Judging from the info provided he has been discharged and acquitted by the lower court who lacks jurisdiction in the first instance thereby paving the way for the federal high court (who has original jurisdiction in cases involving terrorism) to now assume its rightful jurisdiction.
ReplyDeleteThis simply means that he still has a case to answer.

ReplyDeleteThank God he is free finally.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants to go further with this, he should strike out violent demostrations off his tactics.

ReplyDeleteNow they have him, the protesters should let sleeping dogs lie and let's move forward. No more deaths on this matter biko.
ReplyDeleteHe better do. Honestly I don't want Biafra. I think the world has lived past that.
ReplyDeleteBut his strength, perseverance, and optimism that Biafra would one day come alive is what I admire. I like men that are strong-willed.

ReplyDeleteHopefully everyone calms down and relax.
ReplyDeleteThank God...now let peace reign.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to understand this verdict. It seems it was struck out of thus court because it lack the competence to try him for a higher charge-terrorism.
ReplyDeleteI am not a lawyer but I am getting that he will be tried for terrorism charges by a higher court. Wey lawyer abeg explain to me.
Yes. The federal high court takes over the charges against him. That's the only place he can be tried vis-a-vis terrorism. He was acquitted in the lower courts, as they lacked the jurisdiction to proceed with terrorism charges.
DeleteI hope this curbs the unrest and tension his arrest brought.
ReplyDeleteI admire his guts though.
ReplyDeleteCute guy I must say.

ReplyDeleteLet Peace Reign
ReplyDelete@ fresh roses, seriously?
ReplyDeleteUN should be fast with the referendum so that they get what they want. No need of killing, but they should know they can't force those that did not want to be part of them, i mean the south south. Its all about their five state. Going this Christmas will be good for everyone. Celebrate and don't return to Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteWhat next?
ReplyDeleteOK oh, they should try and remove my state Delta from their glebe she.
