BVN Scam This Festive Period.

These thieves have got no conscience at all!
The ones who do not have the liver to carry guns and kill people are up to something else.

Good day Stella,

Please find attached a screen shot of a text I received on my phone. I knew the text message is a scam because I work with a financial institution. I pretended to be a novice and called the so called help line. The young man that picked claimed to be one Charles Akome and works in the customer care department of CBN.

He first of all asked me to call him back which I did because I wanted to make a fool of him. I called him and he said I should get my atm card, give him my PAN (that is those numbers on top of the atm), the card expiry date, the 3 digits at the back of the card(CVV2) and my pin. He asked of my account balance. I was just playing along as per mugu.

I was just fabricating figures for him. At the point he was asking of my pin, my colleagues couldn't suppress their laughter again and as such I had to let the thief know that I am not a novice. He tried abusing me but I gave it to him fire for fire and he stupidly hung up. I have marked both numbers on true caller as 419/scammer . This is just to let my fellow blog visitors know that this is a scam and they should never pay attention to it.
Thank you.

Sorry abt d mixed feelings u guys must b xperienciing now.
It's 50:50 in dt it may b scam or not.
But dd higher chances oof it being a scam or prank is 90+%
I wud want u guys to disregard &investigate d number quietly. Also pray abt it cos an elderly one's BP may rise just thinking/wondering abt it.
Find d contact on True caller.
      If u r connected to a mobile phone Tracker (cos it's xpensiv)they cud help u investigate d location &movement &maybe aprehend d fool(s).
I know how we feel abt Nigeria but please go make a Complaint in d Police Station for d Records please. Do not pay any police person money for anything.
Do not call d number, do not pick dia calls &do not reply dia sms. Once u do any of these, dey wud know dey stand a chance.
If dey have not done wat dey r supposedly paid to do, den dey r not serous. Dt 'church mind' dey ve wil deter them. *smiles

    4. Take the number they used to contact you guys to the police. I don't know if they can work with the network provider and track them down. I don't know if this is possible but I guess it's worth a try.

    5. This is the reason most times I don't drop my real numbers, some miscreants just take unknown numbers, threaten them to pay money, they only want money

    6. Make a report to the police.

    7. Go to the police station, make a formal complaint. The police will issue a report to the service provider so they can investigate the registered owner of the number, location and arrest the culprits.

It is likely they are fraudsters but don't take chances.

Sadly, people will still fall. Our target audience should be our parents who are not so tech savvy and all.
    Thanks for sharing.

  10. Everyone just have to Be careful with how they handle their financial issues...Last Monday I went to withdraw with atm card in one of the banks i save with and my card got stocked in the machine. Thank God it was my branch, so I went in to complain confidently.

The cash officer was telling me stories after a brief search of the machine..."guy I can't find your card inside the machine"

I thought he was joking until I realized how serious he was. I asked if their machine now chew cards after seizing it. He thought I was there to joke....what came to my mind was *OWO OLOWO*

I scattered that bank, and he was confused as all eyes was on us and so many customers were saying the same thing.

So they asked me to come back for my card the following day, which I said no and went straight to the customer care unit to block it. I no fit shout.

    Guys eyes de red now.

      It's her airtime.
Network providers even dish out bonuses in thousands we don't use up before it's validity period.
One may just b in d mood to lighten up. The colleagues where there.
We spend large sum for Shows and less sum to download jokes. So no skinpains.
If she dint act so, how wud she pass d msg? #rhetorical
      Somtimes I delete.
Other times, I let d stupid prankster know he's/she's stupid.
      Kini big deal sef.

    3. @ Elena, it gets to a point in someone's life when airtime is the least thing they worry about bcos you can afford to load as much airtime as you want without any qualms. Calling him back doesn't make me fool cos I wanted to know how dey play their game to enable me properly educate pple around me. But then u wouldn't reason in that direction bcos u r so full of urself and believe you know everything when in actual sense u don't know jack even with your so rubbish medical degree which am sure u got from one of these epileptic universities without accreditation from NUC.Rubbish!

    4. @ ITK elena, it takes a fool to know a fool. Poverty no let u see road! That is why u r busy crying about the "wasted" airtime. Everybody can't be a broke ass like u!

    6. Elena the airtime "wasted" belongs to the poster and not u. The money used in buying the airtime equally belongs to the poster and not u. I do not understand the rational behind calling the poster a fool. You may not know it but this post is going to save some people especially those that doesn't understand how these things works.

  29. But majority of you didn't have a problem with someone pilfering diamonds from the trash. So if you "muguly" give out your card details, don't be bothered....after all,you volunteered it on your own.
And remember, one day your purses or wallets might slip off, sleep easy knowing that the person that picked it has inherited it,after all he didn't ask you to lose it.

Oh wait, what if the scammer's mother needs an operation and your money can help him? Why can't una give your card details to save lives?

Crime is crime, irrespective of who is involved. No excuses.
