Virgin Atlantic Airways Pulls Out Of Nigeria, Shuts Down Call Centre And Sacks All Cabin Crew

British flag carrier, Virgin Atlantic Airways, has pulled out of Nigerian routes The Nations reports. The airline has also reportedly sacked all Nigerian cabin crew and shut its call centre in Ikeja, Lagos.

Though the airline is yet to officially announce its exit from the Nigerian market, an inside said the development might not be unconnected with disappointment by the airline management over failed promises by the government on its operations in the country.
Quoting the source: “Virgin Atlantic Airways has laid off all its Nigerian cabin crew.

“They were only given three week’s notice and no severance package regardless of their length of service will be paid. “The air-hostesses they sacked were about 20 and last year, they closed down their Nigerian call centre and let go of all the Nigerian staff.”

    2. Don't be silly.... Richard Branson has been complaining about the Nigerian business environment and politicians for years now.
I remember how he bitterly complained about agencies demanding bribes and government officials demanding free flights for them and their families.
This problem has been there for long.
I guess the man is tired of waiting for a solution that may never come.

    3. @anon14:15 Nigeria has no such presence outside of Nigeria. How did you equate MTN, Shop rite to the deportation of individuals?
No self respecting country will allow foreign firms such strong positions in their country. Walmart cannot thrive in China. They couldn't even gain easy entry into the UK and had to buy an existing UK chain.
The change taking place is to our benefit. We have to shed our bad national character. No maintenance culture. If we had persevered Leventis would rival Shoprite but we love foreign things so our local businesses will not thrive.

    4. @Anon 16:31, you talking absolute nonsense! I'm sure you are a government agent. It's very evil of you to deceive people with such rubbish talk! Have a look at the mist successful and open economies in the world - usa, uk, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong etc, and you'll see a very high level of foreign investment. In fact the willingness of foreigners to pour money into a country is a measure of how successful it is.

Please stop spewing thrash to gullible Nigerians!

  32. The problem may have been there ever before but Virgin never pulled out untill now, this shows that someone was managing the situation somehow, that is what leadership is all about.Since this govt came on board so many companies are withdrawing from our economy, the Stock mkt has crashed beyond redemption.Unfortunately Nigerians got fooled by รข man whose only life ambition was to rule but never really knew what governance is all about.
