UK Home Office Says It Deported 50 Nigerians And Not 500

line reports from the BBC and other media outlets stating that the United Kingdom deported 500 Nigerians have been proven false. According to these reports, 500 Nigerians arrived at Murtala Muhammed International Airport yesterday according to the BBC.

SaharaReporters spoke with the media unit of the UK Home Office, which oversees immigration and travel in the UK, which stated “we can confirm approximately 50 people were returned to Nigeria on a flight which arrived today.” The representative added that 500 deportees was “extremely high” and ultimately untrue.

The Home Office spokesman told SaharaReporters in a written statement that “those with no right to be in the UK should return home. We expect people to leave the country voluntarily but, where they do not, Immigration Enforcement will seek to enforce their departure.”

According to the Punch newspaper the Spokesperson for the Nigerian Immigration Services (NIS), Ekpedeme King, stated that the 46 Nigerians were deported due to immigration related offenses. He also stated that they were deported on issues unrelated to the alleged plans by the UK government to deport 29,000 Nigerians.

The BBC, which originally carried the story, has since retracted their story which was displayed on their website.

  11. Thats why its good to verify any information before spreading it. There is a big difference between mass communication and journalism. Nigerians just do copy and paste with out verifying any information given to them. Thats why i like whites cos they re willing to sacrifice their life to give a real and true report unlike Nigerians

    2. Baseless statement if I must say .That's why you like whites and its still the same whites that came up with the original story. It was meant for them to verify from the Home Office first. Afterall BBC is from their side. Even if Nigerians did copy and paste, the info came from your so-called whites and its just normal naijas follow suit on this one.

  17. I'm curious...If the BBC first carried the story, why did they say 'as is being reported in Nigeria'? Didn't the Nigerian reporters get the story from them in the first place?

  18. At this juncture, I don't think the number matters at all. The word deportation alone is disheartening. God will surely see them through, Amen!

  21. Be it 48 or 50, the truth remains that some Nigerians were deported from the UK yesterday.
Our government should make this country a better place so that this migration to foreign countries in the name of seeking for greener pastures will be reduced.
