About 500 Nigerians deported by the United Kingdom government Wednesday arrived at the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos at 8:07am local time aboard a large chartered aircraft.
Vanguard was at the airport and observed that after all the necessary documentation, the deportees were taken to the main entrance of the Nacho gate where they were dispatched, while some of the deportees were received by their relatives at the same venue.
Vanguard further learnt that Landover Company acted as the handling company in charge of evacuating the deportees.
The nacho aviance coaster buses were used to convey the deportees in batches
It will be recalled that Nigerians living in the United Kingdom on Monday 23rd of November 2015 cried out that the UK authorities were planning to deport 500 Nigerians due to immigration issues and other related offences and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the UK government to stop the deportation.
On ground at the airport were the Immigration Officers, TARMAC Operations officers, The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Command, Air Force Defence officers and other security agents who provided adequate security during the documentation exercise of the deportees.
When contacted to speak on the deportation, one of the officials of the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said that he had been redeployed out of the airport but stressed that he would help the reporter with a contact which he never gave out.
Efforts to speak to some of the deportees were frustrated by security officers .
Over the years deportees arriving the country often come through the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and the implication is that they (deportees) are not regarded as regular passengers because of the necessary documentation that would be made about each of them for future purposes.

DeleteStella, Nigeria isn't that bad abeg. If u scrutinize the majority of those who were deported, u would find that many were caught whilst engaging in illegal acts like fraud in the UK. Only a small percentage would have been nabbed while working genuinely but as illegal immigrants.
DeleteMy point is that our people like to destroy opportunities, they indulge in illegal stuff outside Nigeria. If u are a lazy man in Nigeria, you'lld be lazy in the UK too. So it's an individual thing. If they can strive so hard to enter the UK and start to make stipends, with the same tenacity they can make it in Nigeria too.. without having to run or hide from the authorities because of not having papers.
We like to abuse privileges given us and I cannot really blame the UK immigration for this. They are tax payers and cannot be paying to afford undue luxuries to foreigners, when they have their own citizens to cater for. So why blame them for removing them? It is only those with genuine cases and reasons to be abroad that I pity. Not the ones who see going abroad as a reason to wear wind breakers and do show off!! Most of our guys are on the streets of London doing all sorts of things that only bring embarrassment to the country. This will teach the ones nursing the idea to elope to the UK that it's show time. That's right.

I hope some of them will not commit suicide. Cos the shame will be too much. Cos their mates will be travelling to Nigeria soon for Xmas, bringing goodies and money to show off. While they on the other hand were deported without money or anything to show for years abroad. This can make anyone run mad. I guarantee that some will not dare to go home or let their families know. The shame na die.

DeleteHi Stella, it was horrible!!! I've never cried this hard. Most of us pleaded though we saw it coming but they gave us the impression it could be rectified. Most of us deported were deported cuz of one or two discrepancies which never was an issue in the past till this PM who I believe is a racist. I've never felt so embarrassed in all my life, from Heathrow back home. It's still surreal. Over staying as much as its illegal sometimes it's just unforeseen and kinda unavoidable and the Nigerian embassy in sheffield added to this whole crap. Where do I start from? Though I saw it coming honestly I'd hoped the Nigerian govt coulda helped.

DeleteHmmmm, this thing has been in going for quite a long time . They deport detainees every week but once a week they make arrangement for chattered flight to convey a large number of people . It's done on the last Tuesday of the month and the flight arrives Lagos in the early hours of Wednesday .

However , it's a good thing that this horrible act has been brought to the attention of the public. Imagine returning back to your country after several years abroad with just a Ghana must go.
And since it's come to the fore, what do u suggest that the public do about this? My dear, their law is theirs to uphold o. Only a few peculiar cases can win the fight. Say perhaps, those who applied for residency permits and were refused with prejudice. Or those who have spouses that are British. As for others, na welcome home.

They have no added advantage to offer but receive more than 200% what a Nigerian would be get. Nigeria treats them far better than how the UK treats Nigerians. Some of them do not even want to return permanently to their home countries because they know they will never get such benefits - cars, drivers, cooks, gardeners, free food, free upkeep, free accommodation, free furnishings & gadgets, first class tickets for vacations, complementary job for spouse, school fees for kids. Kilode na... some dont even spend a kobo!

ReplyDeleteAm not trying to sound mean or wicked but i dont see anything wrong in what the british government has done.If you have the right papers then you wont be deported.The problem with not just nigerians but other african countries that travel is that we dont do our research well before we travel.Most times alot of people come into the uk with visit visas and refuse to return.Once you dont regularise your stay by getting the right papers then you have no business stating there because you would authomatically become an overstayer.If you like live in the uk for 30 years or even more once you dont have the right to live there you would one day be deported.Its sad but lets forget sentiments.If you want to travel educate yourself about your journey and get the right visa finish.Alot of these people that dont have papers live a very funny life style,running away from the government and doing dirty jobs and being paid bellow minimum wage all in the name of staying back.If you look at it,is it really worth it?its not going to be easy leaving a well organised country with a good system for nigeria but trust me you would settle in with time.Wish them all the best and this is a lesson to other people planning to make the same mistake soon.

They have been tried, convicted and sentenced for serious crimes in the UK, hence DEPORTATION, regardless of their immigration status in the UK, whether they have leave to remain or not. So, a Deportation Order has been signed against them and that is why they have been DEPORTED. They are what is termed Foreign National Criminal (FNC).
REMOVED
Now if you are REMOVED from the UK, it means you do not have any lawful rights to remain in the UK, visa expired but remained unlawfully without regularising your stay etc. If you come in contact with the UK Authorities you are REMOVED from the UK and not DEPORTED. As there will be no signed Deportation Order made against you.
So please DEPORTATION and REMOVAL have very distinctive functions and must be understood before you make your judgement.
These are your brothers and sisters giving us all a bad name in a foreign land where we are not so proud to call ourselves Nigerians. They should hang thier head in shame.

Oga 04.22, open your eyes. Did you not see "with similar issues". Even at that, Expatriate quotas are granted to companies on the basis that there are no Nigerians with requisite skill to handle such roles occupied by the expatriates. Which is why they are required to have Nigerians understudying them. Look into the dictates if NOTAP if you please. Pls Mr ITK, can you confirm how many expatriates transfer knowledge? Some expatriates do not have all papers crossed to a T especially when they are to renew their quotas. I admit it is more prevalent with Asians but it does occur and I have seen it. So pls read fully before running off to jump into the wrong bin of misunderstanding
