Tribunal Sacks Taraba Governor, Declares APC's Mama Taraba Winner

The Taraba State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has nullified the election of Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
MAMA TARABA.......YES!!!

‎The tribunal headed by Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar declared the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Senator Aisha Jumai Alhassan‎, as the bona-fide winner of the April 11governorship poll in the state.

‎Alhassan was among those that were cleared by the Senate to take up Ministerial appointment under President Muhammadu Buhari.

  24. Hmmmm smh wow, i knew since buhari won they will give her, I bet u this is religious, taraba's majority are Christians and both religions don't see eye to eye when it comes to political issues I don't see how she could have won, because the Christians voted Darius and Muslims went for her. Only God knows when this injustice will end in the north. Mtcheeeeeew.

    1. I suggest you try to find out the tribunal's reason for ousting the former governor.

      Delete
    2. Honey I read it all n it's total rubbish, they said he won by votes but they r nullifying because he didn't go through primaries, wasn't sponsored by the pdp and is not a registered member, please sell me something more intelligent,if he is the only candidate they wnt in d party is he suppose to do the primaries with his ghost? And how come no pdp member reported this issue to the court or anywhere, they sat and watched a non member contest and even win the election hmmmm this is an internal issue that doesn't concern d apc or election tribunal if u ask me. U know nothing about the north and especially taraba this m sure. Pure politics is what just happened, funny the election tribunal only fxns in pdp states, mind u I don't belong to any stupid party just an observer.

  25. Why won't they ask for a reelection like they did in some states, ds Muslims hmmmm

  30. My point is the reason for the removal which is the man was inappropriately chosen by his party how does that translate to automatically declaring her winner if we follow judicial precedence.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Justice have been served, she truely deserves this, congrats ma.

  32. Very interesting development…. why was the tribunal moved to Abuja as with Rivers and Akwa ibom? why did the judgment leak, APC handles o twitter and Facebook declared the judgment at least 3 hours before the tribunal actually sat to deliver the judgment…….
Mrs AlHassan isn’t the first elected female governor, at least not until she is sworn in which would be after the appellate courts have had their say on this matter.

I find it curious that the tribunal declared her winner, speaking from a legal point of view, there’s is something fishy going on here. The fist thing you learn in a civil procedure class in law school is that a court/tribunal cannot grant reliefs not expressly requested – in lay man’s terms, the court is not a “Father Christmas” and cannot give you what you didn’t ask for neither can it give you more than you asked for. The APC and its candidate asked for the election to be nullified and not to be declared winner. so why did the tribunal grant a relief not requested.

The tribunal”s reason for declaring Alhassan winner was premised on the fact that the PDP primaries that saw Ishaku emerge as candidate was faulty. Its judgment is even more surprising in light of the fact that the Electoral Act is very clear that where a tribunal finds that a winner was not in fact qualified to contest, it is supposed to ORDER FRESH ELECTIONS not declare the opposing candidate winner (see section 140(2) Electoral Act 2010)

If our judiciary has any independence left, the judgement of this tribunal will not hold on appeal. The best that can be done is to order fresh elections, that is if the supreme court departs from the precedent set in AMAECHI v INEC (2007) which suggests that victory belongs to a party and not the candidate.

AS to the character of the APC candidate, it only confirms that the party isn’t serious about fighting corruption. Aisha Alhassan’s corruption as former chief registrar of the Abuja high court is legendary. its only in Nigeria that a career civil servant can steal and flaunt wealth, own choice properties that do not tally with their income and get away with it. Young ladies seeking a role model, Mrs Alhassan isn’t one exactly, search for other women who have genuinely worked hard to stay at the top in Nigeria.

P.S T.Y Danjuma, Baba over to you…….the next move is on you…..

  37. @anon 18.29, i could give you a kiss for this analysis! Very apt, objective and spot on!
@Stella, stop displaying "ignorance", you shld know it's too early to be jubilating, because this case will definitely go on appeal.

On the issue of Mrs Alhassan, i actually do not feel impressed with her expression and presentation during the ministerial screening. She lacks the persona, intelligence and confidence of past women in power like:Ezekwesili, NOI, Dora Akunyili, etc.
She Was only full of praises of PMB &APC for rewarding her with another position.
Another issue to consider is that Taraba is a predominantly xtian state, it may be difficult for her to ve won election over the Xtian PDP candidate.

Finally, i do not care about the ruling party or key opposition, na de same people but, justice should be served.
