Robbers Now Disguise In Traffic As Hawkers....?

Lagos State Government,  weekend, justified its clampdown on street trading and hawkers, especially in traffic across the state, saying “some robbers disguise as traders in traffic and rob commuters.”

Speaking in an interview, Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare, argued that commuters, at night, cannot distinguish between genuine traders and robbers.
Adejare lamented that infrastructure in Lagos Island Central Business Districts, CBD, had suffered due to the activities of street traders, who discharge waste indiscriminately.

He said: “We have set up a special Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, unit to ensure that the CBD remains clean always. Companies make so much money from there. They have to sanitize the area.”

  1. Lagosians can't do without hawkers. Most people get home late so they do most of their shopping in traffic. With the increase in traffic robbery they should ban them.

    1. LA fresh I'm sure most people believe their lives are more important than a roll of gala and a bottle of Lacaser. I may be wrong.

What shopping exactly are you referring to? Plantain chips and plastic flowers? Please let's be serious here.

Since Abode is completely clueless about how to run Lagos let's give him ideas.

Remove Street hawkers immediately or limit them to certain hours in the mornin? for people like Lauren who must buy coke at Onipanu.

Increase security patrols at sensitive areas and ensure the street lights are operational.

I wonder which civilized country has people running through traffic selling bananas and boiled eggs and when it became a necessity that people do 'most of their shopping in traffic'.

  4. Why should there be traffic hawkers in the first place. This behavior should have been stopped a long time ago. How can people be allowed to sell in traffic, there is a time and place for everything and traffic on highways is not a place to buy and sell goods.
Nigeria is just so backward it's unbelievable, why can't things ever be done right for a change and laws enforced.
The indiscipline in Nigeria is just too much.

  13. KAI indeed mtcheeew; just another avenue to embezzle money.
Meanwhile lagos wldav been better off jimi had won. Ambode just keeps making silly excuses every now and then,@1st it was lagos was too over populated for the police force kept in place, now they are saying robbers disguise as hawkers *which is true btw* bt ambode keeps 4getting lagos has always been overpopulated yet our daddy @Fashola worked. During fashola tenure ds incessant traffic robbery wasn't as rampant as this.
As it stands now, lagos has no governor cos one can't pinpoint to any tangible thing ambode has done.
I wonder what next if after chasing dem poor helpless workers and yet d robbery still lingers;maybe then he'd tell us to stop driving entirely mtcheeew
