Lagos State Government, weekend, justified its clampdown on street trading and hawkers, especially in traffic across the state, saying “some robbers disguise as traders in traffic and rob commuters.”
Speaking in an interview, Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare, argued that commuters, at night, cannot distinguish between genuine traders and robbers.
Adejare lamented that infrastructure in Lagos Island Central Business Districts, CBD, had suffered due to the activities of street traders, who discharge waste indiscriminately.
He said: “We have set up a special Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, unit to ensure that the CBD remains clean always. Companies make so much money from there. They have to sanitize the area.”
Lagosians can't do without hawkers. Most people get home late so they do most of their shopping in traffic. With the increase in traffic robbery they should ban them.
ReplyDeleteLA fresh I'm sure most people believe their lives are more important than a roll of gala and a bottle of Lacaser. I may be wrong.
DeleteWhat shopping exactly are you referring to? Plantain chips and plastic flowers? Please let's be serious here.
Since Abode is completely clueless about how to run Lagos let's give him ideas.
Remove Street hawkers immediately or limit them to certain hours in the mornin? for people like Lauren who must buy coke at Onipanu.
Increase security patrols at sensitive areas and ensure the street lights are operational.
I wonder which civilized country has people running through traffic selling bananas and boiled eggs and when it became a necessity that people do 'most of their shopping in traffic'.
You are right anon 10:21 this new gov. Is so clueless I just pray lagos doesn't go back to how it used to be.
DeleteThis trend is not funny at all..that was how i was in the car,at a hold up holding my fone, before inknew what was happing,a lastma guy almost snatched my fone..he quickly ran away..

ReplyDeleteGod help us
ReplyDeleteSo true!...
ReplyDeleteThat's how someone I know was robbed at mile 2...
No more buying plantain chips and coke in traffic...
May God help us in this town...
This ish is not new oh Stella.. How much do you think those guys are making + d stress they go thru running after buyers in moving vehicles??? Robbing pple is their main business. In my very before a girls blackberry was snatched from her bcos she was sitting close to d window and pinging. I have 2 more scenarios just can't type abeg!
DeleteOk
ReplyDeleteWhy should there be traffic hawkers in the first place. This behavior should have been stopped a long time ago. How can people be allowed to sell in traffic, there is a time and place for everything and traffic on highways is not a place to buy and sell goods.
ReplyDeleteNigeria is just so backward it's unbelievable, why can't things ever be done right for a change and laws enforced.
The indiscipline in Nigeria is just too much.
Lagos is turning to something else under Ambode. So shameful.
ReplyDeleteGood news, they should come n sanitize lekki jakande area.
ReplyDeleteI trust Lagos sha, they must improvise.
ReplyDeleteSo no more buying of moi usual plantain chips in traffic? Good tho
ReplyDeleteNa today?
ReplyDeleteYes its tru the one that nearly stabbed me around yaba was selling charger but God intervened as i zoomed off. Be careful when buying anything in traffic cos most of them are thieves. The other day, one disappeared with my 400naira change because i decided to patronize him and buy plantain chips. Lagos don tire me self. Feel like relocating to awka or Enugu. Stupid amu robber. Odiegwu
ReplyDeleteWhat has Lagos state turned into recently?? The robbery reports is on the increase daily. I hope Gov. Ambode acts fast and curtail it.
ReplyDeleteGod have mercy on nigeria!
DeleteNa today?
ReplyDeleteAnd dey always seem to get away with it.
Bloody SOBs!
Hmmmmm. When you catch them now them go say na devil work
ReplyDeleteKAI indeed mtcheeew; just another avenue to embezzle money.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile lagos wldav been better off jimi had won. Ambode just keeps making silly excuses every now and then,@1st it was lagos was too over populated for the police force kept in place, now they are saying robbers disguise as hawkers *which is true btw* bt ambode keeps 4getting lagos has always been overpopulated yet our daddy @Fashola worked. During fashola tenure ds incessant traffic robbery wasn't as rampant as this.
As it stands now, lagos has no governor cos one can't pinpoint to any tangible thing ambode has done.
I wonder what next if after chasing dem poor helpless workers and yet d robbery still lingers;maybe then he'd tell us to stop driving entirely mtcheeew
Thank God,someone else noticed. He keep complaining, yet he has the nerves to abuse fashola who gave his all for lagos state. Anyway what does he know aside from getting fat.
DeleteHahahahaha @ aside getting fat. Ur comments are so true
DeleteTriumphant Xian what you mean? Our whole turn up guy quilox, club 58,Inagbe Resort etc.

ReplyDeleteThat might be true.
ReplyDeleteNa wah oo..
ReplyDeleteWhich kain set up a special force. Kai has always been there but the difference is that they were very active during Fashola's time. Ambode the sleepi g governor has made things very bad for the citizens. Nothing seems to be working and yet he wants to buy helicopters to pursue who naa? Avenues for making more money.
ReplyDeleteHe will use the helicopter to catch thieves that are robbing private Jets owners on air
DeleteIt is true. They should ban hawkers and Okada on the high way. These robbers are something else. May God help all His children in Jesus name AMEN.
ReplyDeleteAMBODE BAN OKADA FROM OUR HIGHWAY
Can someone please identify who is the Governor of Lagos state and when you do please wake him up.
ReplyDeleteApparently he/she needs a copy of his/her job description.
6 months after and I'm waiting to see what you all voted for.
Nawa o! Ambode the clueless governor.
ReplyDeletePlease we need KAI in AJah, the street trading there is ridiculous and an eyesore to Lagos state government!!
ReplyDeleteOh, fashola isn't gone 3months and lagos is back to a state anarchy..
ReplyDeleteI wonder why you all are complaining about Ambode...shey you people voted for him...
ReplyDeleteAnd even una Oba threatened igbos because of him...
Hahahahaha...
Make una enjoy una market nau...hian!...
Nyoorrrrr
No be only Lagos this thing de happen o! In Port Harcourt they disguise as beggars. If your side shield is wound down when they get close you go hear "bros/madam give me smthg I no be beggar o"
ReplyDeleteIf you wan maja(open eye) dm go open their shirt show you gun. Some fit collect 1k some no de collect small money, but them de negotiate. It common at Artillery and Waterlines.
Where are all the people that wanted to die on top ambode matter during election?? Saying he was better than jimi.. Yall see what you got as a governor. This is what happens when you let your sentiments get in the way of good decision making
ReplyDeleteAmbode work work work!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe can't smell nor feel the impact of your administration.
Crime rate is on the increase. Ambode ma je ki eko baje ooo.
