The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos Police Command, in the wee hours of Sunday arrested three ex – convicts for traffic robbery in Oshodi in the state.
The robbery suspects, Adekunle Mustapha, 21, Popoola Olumide, 20 and Femi Amusa, 20, were arrested following the tip off from their victim, Olasunkanmi Oyelakin, who alerted the Police that his blackberry phone was stolen by the suspects during early morning traffic around Bolade, Oshodi.
The victim recounted his ordeals to the Police, “I was on my way to Ajah at about 6:30 a.m, I saw Adekunle Mustapha pass by the bus I boarded. Unknown to me, he was monitoring me. A few minutes later, I noticed a missed call on my phone, and as I brought out the phone, Mustapha took the phone from me through the bus window and ran away. Because there was traffic, I made no attempt to struggle with him, but got down from the nearest bus-stop and I began to monitor him. I noticed that he had regrouped with his friends and one of them was telling him to hand over the phone he stole from me”.
“I knew I couldn’t handle the three of them all alone, so I informed the RRS operatives who followed me down to the place where he was arrested”, Oyelakin explained
The visibly distraught Mustapha said that he was driven by frustration to steal the handset from him. “I am a bus conductor in Oshodi. I am from Ibadan and a secondary school dropout. I sleep in Ojuwoye, Mushin’, he said, trembling. I am an ex – convict. I don’t want to go to prison again. Government should please have mercy on me. I was frustrated into traffic robbery. I won’t do it again”, he pleaded.
Mustapha’s accomplices, Popoola Olawale and Femi Amusa said that although they saw Mustapha in Oshodi regularly, they are also bus conductors and not in-traffic robbers. They added that they were in Lagos to make money to buy their working tools having completed their apprenticeship.
*See their faces..OMG....scared and crying lot!.....

At 5.30pm on friday, just after Oshodi, about 6 guys surrounded my car and started banging on it demanding for 5k...other motorists in traffic just pretended nothing was happening to me, i just stopped my car, came down, locked it and just went across the road pretending i was flagging down cars on the other side of the road...that kinda threw them off. They all look like these 3 guys; thieves
ReplyDeleteSmtcheeeeewwwww nonsense
ReplyDeleteFaces of people that are neckdeep in committing crime, they should be tried and sentenced biko...
ReplyDeleteIf permitted, they would still go back to the streets and become bad ass nuisance to the people!

ReplyDeleteEnd of the road. I trust SARS, they won't hear from this boys again
ReplyDeleteAt what age were they convicted at first? With the way the Nigerian prisons are, most times they go in there and become much worse. Cases of juvenile delinquents should be handled with more care.

ReplyDeleted guy @ the left really looks like a condemned criminal but d 1 @ the middle seem scared n remorseful. the one @ the right pretender of the universe
ReplyDeleteUnrepentant thieves. Good , let them go back to where they belong.
ReplyDeleteIt is a vicious cycle. Their lives are steeped in poverty, they give in once to crime, end up in jail, come out and there isnothing to do, so they go back to crime. It is easy for us to criticize them but really what other options do they have? This is a country where even university graduates are struggling to eat or get a job, not to talk of our vast population of uneducated youth. What is there for them to do? If when they were in prison they were being taught skills like repairing electrical appliances, or cars/buses or mobile phones or even farming, or road building, brick laying, painting, furniture making etc then they would have an alternative when they get out of jail but they have absolutely nothing and yet we sit on our high horses criticizing them and abusing them.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people fail to realize it was just by the grace of God we were born on the right side of the road. If we were in their situation we would be no different. For women, the only way out is usually becoming a prostitute, for men it is crime. People should think about how they can help their local prisons. Encourage your pastors to visit the jails in you town regularly, to take them food, soap, chewing sticks (forget about toothpaste) clothes, and offer free medical/legal services, to get church members to volunteer to teach them and to donate unwanted school books, pens, pencils etc. These are the sort of things that could turn their lives around and help people break the cycle.
Most importantly of all, please, please, please, find some Christian charity in your hearts for people less fortunate than you. God could chance your situation at any time and it could be your child on the streets with no prospects.
Really?? They don't have options?? They can't learn trade?? Run errands?? Didn't you see where they said they are bus conductors?? Why can't they keep doing that??
DeleteWhy are you justifying their act?? Are you also an armed robber??
Free tickets to jail osiso
