Federal Government Bans Importation Of 'I Better Pass My Neighbour' Generators

The Federal Government has banned the importation of small generators popularly called 'I better pass my neighbour,' used by low-income Nigerians.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, Controller, Federation Operations Unit Zone A, Lagos of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Madugu Sanni Jubrin, disclosed this in Lagos while speaking with newsmen.

"The smaller generators have been banned by the Federal Government because it is causing air pollution and destruction of our lungs and breathing system. That is why they have banned it but people are still interested in smuggling them in, that is why we intercepted them.

If you go to the market, you still see them because people have imported them before the ban. So it is the leftover they had before the ban that they are selling because the law did not backdate the ban and it is not an absolute prohibition."

*They Ban the product totally and restore the flow regular of Electricity nationwide!

Until dey ban d use of Gen totally in Nigeria there won't be a stable light because those who benefit from d sales of generator won't allow it!Fix d light before banning anything.

  5. What a dumb thing to do.

  13. See their flimsy excuse for banning d gen *its causing air pollution and destruction of our lungs and breathing system*...this dude must be an illiterate. Does it mean bigger gen don't emit carbon monoxide? See ds learner o!
If d reason given above is anytng to go by,then old cars shld be banned from plying d road aswell including trailers. They all attribute in causing air pollution.

Btw...since they'v banned it,den should aswell follow suit in giving steady power supply

    1. exactly O. All those ricketty trailers that ply Nigerian roads and their problem is the generator that people use to manage their lives. Its really unfortunate.

  22. The government really has to work to ensure constant electricity, else it will be back to the days of hurricane lanterns or candles which are even worse. Besides, we need electricity to power our devices, so that won't even hold.

  31. How does banning this generator improve the economy? No constant supply of electricity and the only way the masses will be able to get info by listening to news on their TVs and radios you want to ban, what the hell is wrong with this govt cos it seem like they are even more clueless and don't know exactly what to do...I guess if u've been the opposition for so long and power suddenly fall on your lap you wouldn't know what to do with it...abeg they should leave the masses alone and focus on improving power before banning anything

    ReplyDelete
  32. This news comes with a mixed reaction. They constitute both noise and air pollution which damages the eco system. However, the government should have considered some modalities before embarking on a total ban. For instance improved electricity, small scale entrepreneurs, the importers and dealers etc.
May God help us in this country.
