Diezani’s Family Allegedly Battle Dele Momodu Over His Interview With Her

Members of the immediate family of embattled former Minister for Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, as well as her legal team are outraged over the recent visit of Nigerian journalist Dele Momodu to the former minister’s London flat.

In an interview with SaharaReporters, Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s Nigerian lawyer, Oscar Onwudiwe, asserted that the ex-minister never intended or authorized anything from that meeting to be broadcast to the public.

According to Mr. Onwudiwe’s account, Mr. Momodu, publisher of The Boss magazine, “met (with Diezani) on a personal visit with the family.” He added that Mr. Momodu and the family had enjoyed a good relationship in the past.
Even so, Mr. Onwudiwe insisted that no permission was ever granted to have Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s photo taken. He stated that the ex-minister’s family became “very upset” about what has transpired after the meeting between Mr. Momodu and the former minister.

The lawyer disclosed that Mrs. Alison-Madueke and her family were not ready for her to make public statements yet.
The reporting based on Mr. Momodu’s meeting with Mrs. Alison-Madueke has stirred national controversy. In the interview, the former Minister denied ever stealing money while in government. However, a significant percentage of the Nigerian public believes her assertion to be untrue.

When Mr. Momodu released photos of Mrs. Alison-Madueke looking frail and close to bald, reportedly on account of her cancer treatment in the UK, many Nigerian commentators on social media claimed the photos were forged or otherwise doctored in order to inspire public sympathy for the once powerful minister.
When our correspondent asked why Mrs. Alison-Madueke was looking into the camera, if she did not did not give permission to have her photo taken, Mr. Onwudiwe was unable to provide an answer.

SaharaReporters recently ran a social media poll on Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s recent statements, with 87% of participants believing that the former minister stole public funds and was lying.

When SaharaReporters contacted Mr. Momodu, he said he did not know who Oscar Onwudiwe was, adding that he therefore could not have sought permission from the lawyer. He added, “I do not want to be drawn into this controversy.”

There are so many contradictions...Wasnt it Dele that said he couldnt release the original pictures because he had signed a legal document prohibiting him from doing so?Abi i no read am well?

If she granted the interview, why are they denying that it was a private chat with Dele?Perhaps the interview backfired?

Abeg she should try to rest and recover well, there is enough time to defend herself.#GetWellSoonDiezani.

  7. I trust that Momodu will handle this without fear of anything, if Infact she agreed to that interview being published. I suspect their grouse is with the accompanying picture of her present state, and not the actual interview. Momodu should clarify that angle.

    1. I'm thinking it's because she didn't get the sympathies she was hoping she would when the story circulated. Her plans backfired and now they are crying foul.

  18. Please. Private interview indeed. So she was also unaware that her picture was being taken?
That interview was solely to elicit public sympathy and because that failed, they decided to turn around and claim that it wasn't supposed to be made public

  23. Private interview for what reason? This look is a typical Diezani look without makeup. Check out her other photos. Granted she might or has cancer, but I somehow believe this publication was done to garner sympathy from the general public.

It is this same woman that damned everyone when she was summoned by the senate then to come and clarify issues. The same woman that did not honour the court when she was summoned. And was going about her duties, whatever it was. She did not claim being sick then, suddenly as Buhari enter power, the sickness tripled. It is only her and her cohorts that know what is happening.

And why is it that anytime Nigerians are accused and asked to come and answer to the allegations, they suddenly develop one form of serious ill-health. It never strikes them when they are in power oh, so what gives?

May she get well oh to come back and answer to the allegations. Thats all.

  24. Her state of health does not call for this accusations and counter accusations. The bone of contention is for her to get back on her feet and defend herself. If found guilty then let her face the music.

  33. I have never liked Dele. His magazine was just a modern praise singing vessel and I have always found him and his half hearted captions in his mag a bit slimy. This does not surprise me, that he went under the guise of a personal visit and has revealed all.
When I read the so called interview, I commented that Madueke is a very well educated and spoken lady and that Oga this, oga that, was not the sort of thing she would have said in an interview. I said it sounded like a private conversation that had been leaked and was now being used as an interview and it has now been proven true.
Nigerians, use your tongue to count your teeth. All of you are laughing and abusing her because of rumours but you are not making any effort to think critically about what is being said and what the truth could be. Up till today, the amount is still changing $20b, $6B, ....
The worst part is that look at the curses you rained on this sick woman, meanwhile you heard about Dasuki and you have already lost interest in him. It was made to sound like it was because of Madueke that the country was broke, but look at the amounts Dasuki stole and nobody is saying anything. Is it because he is a man or because he is from the North that in his own case where they claim to even have proof and have taken him to court nobody is interested, however Madueke's case which has not even been buttressed with proof, you have been abusing her and jubilating that she is ill.
Actually, I think it is because the politicians and the press have not yet labeled him as one of the worst offenders, like the sheep you are, you are waiting for your masters to tell you how to perceive him before you can say much about him. Idiots!!!!
