A 52-year-old woman, Abioye Olusona, has been arrested in Ogun State for allegedly stealing two week old twin babies.
The suspect, said to be a church deaconess, was arrested by the Ogun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at the Primary Health Centre located in Joju area of Sango-Ota, Ogun State
The Defence Public Relations Office, Kareem Olanrewaju, who confirmed the news to PREMIUM TIMES on Sunday, said the woman was caught as she took the babies to the health centre for immunization.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the hospital suspected the woman stole the babies when after routine checks, it was discovered that there was no fluid from her breast.
The Command spokesperson said the defence operatives, on being tipped by the health officials, moved to the hospital, arrested the woman and took possession of the twins.
He said on interrogation the suspect claimed to have delivered the babies last October 20 at about 4.00 a.m. in Port Harcourt after registering at a private hospital called ‘Celica Hospital in Ibadan about ten months ago.
Mr. Olanrewaju said the case has been transferred from the command to Ota Division of Nigeria Police for further investigation.

ReplyDeleteFirst reasonable comment so far. She didn't steal no babies. She either bought them or was made to believe she had them miraculously. Same thing happened to my boss back then in Enugu. Lady traveled to PHC, returned with a set of twins and till date, claims she gave birth to them. The pregnancy signs were there but we all knew those babies weren't her's.

DeleteDeaconesses have been buying/borrowing babies since 1907! One in my church, a well known Deaconess had the guts go on God's alter to share her half baked lie as testimony some years back. She had been TTC for 12 years, BOUGHT a child and "returned to give glory to God". Now she has 3 kids ( all bought from God-knows-where), all with different looks, complexion and features. you lld never suspect they belong to the same woman if no one tells you.

A campaign to enlighten people on the dangers of buying babies instead of adopting legally will go a long way in sorting this problems out.
ReplyDeleteShe did not steal the babies......Portharcourt is known for people who arrange babies for women......they pay the babies which in itself is wrong.....these so called women who own the maternity keep young girls with unwanted pregnancies and then pay them for their babies, then they sell them to women looking for children....funny enough they give these women herbs and their tummies get big but they tell them not to go for scan during the pregnancy.....when it's time for delivery you must go back to p/h, from there they deliver the babies by the young girls and immediately transfer to the women.....I have a colleague who did this that y I know the story..any woman looking for a child in p/h must have come across such offer
