Adele Accused Of Copying 'Hello' From Tom Waits 'Martha'

Fans of American singer Tom Waits have accused Adele of copying one of his songs for her comeback single Hello.
Hello was released after a three-year hiatus for the British artist and became the first song to be downloaded more than one million times in a week.
But fans of Tom Waits think it is too similar to his 1973 cult single Martha, which is about calling a former partner.

One fan tweeted: "Hello was done 1,000 times better by him in the '70s". Another said: "Adele I love you BUT Tom Waits nailed that song on his 73 debut."
Both songs feature lyrics about getting in touch with an old acquaintance.
In his song, Waits sings "Hello, hello there, is this Martha?", whereas Adele's song begins "Hello, it's me".

Adele's producer Greg Kurstin recently said that 65-year-old Waits had been an inspiration to her when writing the single.

Hello sold 1.1 digital downloads in the first week after release, beating Justin Bieber Sorry, which was downloaded 276,800 times.
It is the first single from the upcoming album 25, to be released later this month.

Her last album, 21, sold more than 30 million copies and won six Grammy awards.

I am sure she took permission, abeg they should let her be...Even if she copied and sang, its not easy to make it become an instant hit.Adele nailed that song.

  12. OK, I had to go check out the Tom Waits song, first off, the two songs doesn't sound alike in any way.
Secondly, everybody steals! Its only when someone steals someone's art and make millions off it, we cry plagiarism.

I assume her haters think the pornstars copied prostitutes just because the former is the world's oldest profession.

  17. Stella sometimes eh! If she really copied it,I hope she took permission because when you lift someone's work or intellectual property without permission,it is wrong and I'm sure you know how it feels Stella. So that your "even if she copied" no gel at all... Either the songs differ or she took permission. Anything outside that,is intellectual theft.

  29. The 2 songs do not sound alike at all. The only similarity is the word hello. Adele said hers at the beginning while tom waits said his in the middle of the song. The wordings are far from being alike. I am sure it's Taylor Swift that planted this stupid lies on the Internet just to burst Adele's bubble.
