Woman Sells Her Child For N1.5m

Police  detectives in Asaba, Delta State, have arrested a housewife identified as Elizabeth Okolie in Okpanam community for allegedly selling her baby for N1.5 million.

It was reliably gathered that the woman,33, a trader in one of the markets in the area, allegedly sold her baby when the purported father refused to accept the paternity. Police Commissioner in the State, Alkali Baba Usman confirmed that the detectives acted on a tip off and arrested the woman on her way to Benin City after she had allegedly sold the baby to an unidentified buyer.

The police boss said that the woman, upon interrogation, made useful statements to the police, adding that the police detectives have gone after the buyer of the baby.

Family sources said that the woman, a secondary school drop-out, escaped with the man she claimed she had been married to and she immediately got pregnant. She delivered a baby girl when the bubble burst. But the Police Commissioner said “We arrested the woman through useful information that the baby she put to bed three months ago was sold to an unidentified buyer when she had quarrels with the man she claimed to be her husband and the man denied the paternity of the child.

We have made frantic efforts to bring the buyer to book and our men have gone after the buyer while the woman is currently in our custody helping the police with investigation, the man she claimed to be her husband denied paternity of the baby”.

    1. My thoughts exactly... where there should be a problem should be when she sells the child to a ritualist. People are really suffering and No they can't stay away from sex. A lot of people need kids and going through the law takes months, even years.

    2. A million likes to ur point!
If she keeps the baby and can't take care of her,who will want to support her. What she did was like giving her baby up for adoption!
Biko! Abeg! Please! Use contraceptives and stop bringing children into the world wen u know u can't take care of them!

    1. I think it's a hymn verse:
      Can a woman's tender care
Cease towards the child she bear
      Yes she may forgetful be
      Yet will I remember thee.

      I may be wrong sha.

she might have her reasons for doing what she did and as as wrong as it is to sell one's child, it's better than dumping the child in a carnal or killing it. #my2cents.

  7. .....and how would that child feel when she grows up to learn that her own mother once sold her out? Poverty is indeed an incurable disease. Now she would blame it on the devil. Evil people!

  12. Selling the baby to a good family that will take good care of her isnt it better than allowing the child to suffer in the hands of the real mother. Just that she didnt do it the right way. #justthinking shaa

    2. Tell them o! Biko the woman did the right by not dumping d baby in some trash or even aborting the baby. Police berra cut her some slack and let her collect her 1.5milll!

  13. So,who reported her?.
An embittered 3rd party who didnt get a part of that money?

  14. 1.5m is way better than those that sold theirs for a price less than what you can get a cow with.
Let's see it this way, as long as the child is not to be used for Rituals, and they had a sort of agreement then she did the child a huge favour, this type would snuff life out of the child without thinking twice if forced to that it back.

  15. As terrible as it is,its better than strangling d child which a lot of heartless people do.
Her only offense is that she got money out of it.
Adoption agencies sell babies everyday legally n collect a whole lot of money for them n trust Nigerians nobody has time to ff up on d baby's new home.
My point is,y is it OK to collect exorbitant amounts just to adopt?
No all childless couples are wealthy
Average people should be able to adopt too n raise a family as long as d necessary background check is done n dey have stable jobs to train a child.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well Stella there is no adoption system in place. In other countries people can give up babies they can't take care of so they will be adopted by those who can care for them but not so here. So the money becomes an enticement.

  18. Logically the baby is her own and she deem fit to do with it what she pleases. But it's so wrong to sell your own child. On a lighter note, please Stella stop swallowing my comments. Anytime I make a comment that don't favour you, you don't post it. The blog is your own, but I don't like it. Post my comments o!

    1. Why won't she swallow your comment when you keep posting rubbish? So because she gave birth to the child it's logical in your defective reasoning to sell it for money?
So if a mother kills her child, it will be justified since she gave birth to the child after all?
My friend better start using your brain.

  19. When critically examined, when she did is commendable. The baby wil be provided for better by her new parents.
It is still better than killing the baby.

  21. Bia, u would still cuss her if she threw it away or killed it. I have no problem with women who sell their kids to ttc couples o! Better than throwing it away..

    ReplyDelete
  22. Na wah for the woman, I'm glad she was apprehended. I'm suspecting that the person she sold the baby to might be a ritualist. cos with 1.5million the person can adopt three baby girls from an orphanage legally.

  23. People re looking for children and this one is selling Gods precious gift. God bless those who genuinely need the children not the ones that would end up selling. Amen

  24. Wen some couple are seriously looking for a child someone just sold hers who knows for how much

  25. The maximum time I can leave my kids for is 2 weeks not more than . I know family and friends who left their kids to travel for better life ,I can't do it Neva I'll go with them suffer and enjoy together. Can't deal men .

  26. Why are they holding the woman. She decided to sell her child for N1.5 million which is good money to her. The stupid man denied. She has no choice but to sell. I am not saying she did the right thing. She did not throw the baby away.

I pray she sell to the family that is indeed childless and needs to love the baby as their own.

they should free her. Police people or you want part of the money

    ReplyDelete
  27. BIa all you hypocrites aborting the baby, dumping the baby in a pit toilet or bolah (dustbin in hausa) or selling the child which one is better? Is it not better to sell the child dan kill the hEr to couples who could take care of the child? I dnt get y you u all are quick to judge and cuss ppl out witout knwing their predicament.

  28. At least she didn't kill the baby like some mothers

  29. She try abeg.. she sold the baby for a reasonable amount. . Not you hearing peeps selling kids for 20k.. or killing somebody to sell the intestines for 10k.. she sold the baby whole, alive and hearty.. what if she had decided to throw him in a canal? Or lock him up somewhere without food until he dies?? Make dem leave am oo.. all the abortionists and murderers dem never see anything do to em..

  34. As long as she sold the child to a couple who are trying to have a child then it's not a problem to me. It's not like she stole someone's child to sell. She sold her own child so what's with the judgement. If she can't take care of the child do you expect her to kill, throw the child a way like other people do. Biko she did right..
