UK Authorities Started Money Laundering, Corruption Probe Against Diezani In 2013

The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) has disclosed that their agents began a corruption probe of Nigeria’s former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in 2013. The ongoing investigation led to the arrest two days ago of Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who has shuttled between the UK and a few European countries since her cabinet post came to an end with the electoral defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former minister was released on bail after several hours of questioning, but UK authorities have confiscated her international passport to ensure she does not flee the country.

In a recent update on their website, the UK National Crime Agency revealed that they began investigating Mrs. Alison-Madueke under the auspices of the Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU) of the London Metropolitan police.

The agency added that all four persons arrested across London with Mrs. Alison-Madueke were granted conditional police bail pending the outcome of ongoing investigations in the UK and abroad.

The update on the NCA website did not name the accused persons, but a source within the Nigerian Presidency told SaharaReporters that they believe some of the other suspects are Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s relatives who may have rendered one assistance or another to her in the laundering of significant amounts through UK banks and other financial institutions.

  8. She should do quick and implicate Jonathan ...

My question is in 2013 when allegations of her embezzling started why wasn't she probed and sacked by Jonathan ? There were lots of petitions against her ... A lot ! Now Jonathan should bury his head in shame - another country is doing for him what he couldn't do from the very beginning.

Why couldn't he investigate the claims and Petitions against dieziani?simply means that he was also involved ..

  15. I don't know why they bother to loot except they believed there will be no way they will ever be called upon to render account in Nigeria. They do not have the discipline to go into hiding and maintain a low profile. What would be the point of the loot in that case? Loot is to be enjoyed, abi? The countries they like to visit and live their lavish lifestyles are, unfortunately, the ones with low tolerance for corruption. They would never dream of living in Ethiopia or Afghanistan (where they might likely be safe from Buhari and his anti-corruption crusade!). My prediction? A lot more of them will be arrested abroad while they are there to spend their illegally acquired wealth! Me thinks it's better to quietly give up the loot and live one's life in peace than go through all this hustle, uncertainty and embarrassments. But then, what do I know? LOL

Why is it only people from the south south that are being processed?
We all know the people that benefited the most from corruption since Independence. But we all love to live in a fool s Paradise.

    2. Mr Money maker, pls for heaven's sake keep quiet, sometimes I wonder why you always reason like this, must everything be seen through eyes of tribalism and sentiments,if the lady is thief, let her be duly prosecuted and jail if found guilty. No matter where the corrupt official is from, let us come together and tackle them, without resort to which side of the country he or she is from.
      P.S it's prosecuted not processed #JustSaying

  17. Oh no. See now, those who said she was being witch hunted. They've been on her case for 2 years. Chai this is not looking good. Cos if they found nothing they wouldn't have arrested her nor seized her passport. Double jeopardy. Cos she'll face same in Nigeria.

  20. Money maker so the U.K. government is also against the south south people abi? The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) is also tribalistic against borrow language people and south south people right?

  22. And this woman is supposed to be a mother, real disgrace to women. What advice do you want to advice your sons if you are a money launderer and looter. How do you caution your grand kids that stealing is wrong, when you are a robber. I'm surprised a woman can be this callous because of greed. Next now, they will be cautious about giving women in the cabinet sensitive positions. What even happened with the post they gave her in OPEC.

  23. The hunter is now the hunted. Come to think of it, how come nobody has heard any news about this woman's husband?

  24. I don't understand why UK authorities will probe a Nigerian who looted Nigerian money on Nigerian soil. Who gave them the authority? Do we not have the capacity to deal with our own issues? I know why I'm asking these questions.

    1. She looted money in Nigerian soil but is spending it in UK. They have the authority to probe anyone committing a crime in their country. Money laundering is a crime.

    2. Jane, she moved large amounts of money into the UK, if they work wit d Nigerian govt and find out these monies were not legitimately sourced, she goes to jail...same happened to Ibori, this is to dissuade people from using uk banks to laud money

      Delete
  25. It's because they use the UK as a money laundering country and enjoy the proceeds of their crime there. Do you understand now? politics is not for everyone to comment on.

  27. Until we all put tribal sentiments and bigotry aside, Nigeria will remain stagnant

  28. Yes they can prosecute when you transfer funds into their banks under a fictitious business this would fall under International money laundering. like Ibori..
And the British Police would never touch you unless they have concrete proof unlike our cockroach Police that arrest based on mere beer parlour gossip! !
Yeah knew some knucklehead would mention tribalism!!
