The Akwa Ibom Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has ordered a rerun governorship election in 18 of the 31 local government of the state.
Although, the tribunal commenced sitting in Uyo, it had to be moved to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) owing to the unfavourable security atmosphere in the state capital.
Udom Gabriel Emmanuel had been declared by the INEC as the winner in an election alleged to be the controversial.
It was reported that the election was allegedly marred with violence, killings, harassment of voters, hijacking of election materials and unprecedented rigging which made international and local observers to pass a unanimous verdict that it was a sham and recommended a complete cancellation of the exercise.
All Progressives Congress which is the main opposition in the state also came out strongly to decry the conduct of the exercise.
The APC said there was no election in the state as it accused the former governor Godswill Obot Akpabio who is now a minority leader at the Senate, of allegedly deploying state machinery to rig the election and overturn the popular wish of the people.
As a result of this, the APC and its candidate, Umana Okon Umana, had to challenge the victory at the tribunal seeking a cancellation of the purported election.

ReplyDeleteMy man.
ReplyDeleteAkwa Ibom is a pdp state ,akwa ibom people love Akpabio and will go for him
ReplyDeleteHehehe. I can imagine.
ReplyDeleteJisike so nne.
Can this pple just rest..... As far as am concerned, umanah is a crook. Udom started on a very good note.... Paying the pensioner's their entitlement within his first three months which was his campaign promise.... Whatever. In fact let Umanah win sef and show all dis akwaibomites dat won't rest on Akpabios case pepper..... You will never know the value of what you have till you loose it.
ReplyDeleteSo apc are really expecting to win in akwa ibom?
ReplyDeleteAnyways buhari don put him person, anything can happen.
Udom is a good man and he should be allowed to stay in office. He has big dreams for Akwa ibom state and has already started some in the pipe lines. I do not consider the opposition a viable candidate as he has been in power for so long without impacting the Akwa Ibom people positively. Let's give Udom Emmanuel a chance so we can experience good governance and by extension the overall improvement of the standard of living of our people.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that Udom is leading with 300,000 votes in the 13 LGAs that the Tribunal accepted. It's a done deal for him.
ReplyDeleteA waste of tax payers money...
ReplyDeleteWaste of time. If I'm will win again
