Teacher Flogs Student To Death In Ibadan

Students of IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, on Wednesday, went on
rampage following the death of one of their colleagues allegedly flogged to death by a teacher, Tribune gathered.

The student reportedly slumped and gave up the ghost as a result of the severe punishment from a teacher for arriving late to school.Invaluable properties of the school were destroyed by the students who took to protest before the members of Nigerian police force came to rescue the situation.

The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained as at press time while
policemen had cordoned off the area.

An eye witnesses who claimed anonymity said “trouble started when the student arrived school after classes had commenced for the day, he reportedly told the teacher he came late due to illness.” “At that point,” the eye witness added, “the principal, who was passing by asked the teacher the cause of the discussion.”

The principal allegedly ordered the teacher to flog the student for coming late and in the process of the flogging, the student slumped. “All our efforts to save the student proved abortive,’’ the eyewitness added.

No fewer than 10 fully armed policemen were seen on surveillance at the premises of the school with three of their vehicles parked near the school gates.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Oyo State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu said the Police is investigating the matter and promised to get back.

Most of the school furniture-chairs and tables, cabinets were destroyed by the
protesting students and files, registers scattered around. Windows and doors of
the staff room were also vandalized.

Teachers and administrative workers of the school were no where to be found as they took to their heels immediately the students started the protest.

Couldn't he just tell the student to kneel down or give him or her two strokes?

    4. Same thing almost happened to me back in secondary sch. I was ill and I told the teacher even my classmates told him but he went ahead to flog me the only thing I remember when I woke up at the sick bay was him raising his hand to flog me after some strokes I fainted. Teachers should know when not to use the rod to kill the child

    5. If flogging could kill a child then I would have been long dead by now. Not after the severe flogging I received in high school from military men. The flogging was out of their world. So basically, it's not unusual to see teachers flog their students in Nigeria. This particular one just went bad, but he shouldn't have flogged him after he said that he was sick. But no one will want to hear it's a norm to flog becos a life was lost. Unfortunately the teacher will be scapegoated.. very sad

  4. This is also due to lack of teacher/students relation which is lacking totally in the Nigerian schools.

    1. That's why you shouldn't flog a sick person. He WAS flogged to death. If you subtract the flogging from the equation, the student would still be alive today or at least be alive for longer than he did but the flogging accelarated things and cut his life shorter. That teacher should be jailed along with the principal who ordered the flogging! These senseless cows should learn how to treat people the right way. Politician are getting power drunk over the masses, so are teachers over voiceless, defenseless students. They'll be shouting that the government is maltreating them while they're busy maltreating other people's children. Nonesense!

  7. Devil had already signed this one for death, he only used the teacher to achieve it. God please don't allow someone that was destined to die at a particular time come and die in my hand.
I really don't blame the teacher, some of these students can be mischievous, they bring up diff lies as excuses wen they are wrong. The teacher must have thought he was lying. Hmmmm, RIP to the dead

  13. Very bad! I used to be a pple-oriented teacher back then. I'd rather punish u & u'll beg me to flog u instead.

"Oya write I won't come to school late on Thursday again" on 100 pages. Hmmmn! Nobody go tell u to come early next time.

However, when calm is restored & school resumes, which furniture dem go use na. Which is why I fault always the destruction of properties during protests. Why not hold the teachers hostage in their staff room. The principal as well. Till their demands are met. Hahahahaha!

I don too watch oyibo films!!!

    2. You are talking furniture here? I bet the school would rather their building be burnt down than have a student die on their neck. This is a serious matter o. Furniture can be replaced u know.

  15. This flogging of students should stop. I remember when in school, i receive cane well well. That time things were ok in the country.

Now most students dont eat in the night before going to bed. Most parents cannot provide 3 square meals for families again. This country is really hard. Sorry for the pains the parent will be going through.

Am sure the teacher is a female and an aunty gwegwegwe too...
Most teachers in Nigeria public schools are mad and frustrated...

    1. Lol@ "mad and frustrated"!!! You are right, it's a barbaric practice that has outlived it's usefulness.. when I was in secondary school, flogging was the default punishment for any wrongdoing. In the western world, the teacher would be jailed and would never come near a classroom for flogging a child, talk less of flogging to the point of death.

If the child was ill, the flogging probably didn't cause the death, but it definitely contributed. Besides the parents of the child will never agree that the flogging is not what caused the death!

Stupid and backward Culture of flogging children in schools! It should be stamped out. There are other ways to discipline a child in school, ways which have been proven to work.

      Delete
  18. There is still corporal punishment in schools?
So upon all our debate as to why corporal punishment must be abolished them no hear?
And to think the boy even said he was ill,yet they went ahead and flogged him to death.

I was a rebel with a cause in high school, you dare not flog me.the teachers were scared of me cos I'd always lecture them on the ills of flogging students.
My then principal had a western education, and she didnt believe in spanking children.but the teachers would always still flog students, knowing that no one will have the liver to go and report to the principal.
Their reign of terror ended with me.
My name still resonates and reverberates in that school..

    Oh the poor boy's mother!
Imagine her grief at losing her sick child.
That school has to be closed down.
May the boys soul rest in perfect peace.

  19. So they haven't stopped flogging students in schools...They must fish out the teacher & Principal o..they must pay! Rip to the dead boy

  26. very good that the school properties were destroyed....the principal and the teacher should face jail to serve as a deterrent to others.....while i advocate punishement for students flogging is a no no.....discipline is not only by bodily punishement....if a child says they are sick give them the benefit of doubt and call the parents to confirm...there are so many ways of punishing a child
