Should Nigeria's constitution be integrated into the curriculum and taught as a subject in primary and secondary schools?.
The public feeling is that government officials are getting away with their shoddy performance at governance because the governed are largely ignorant of the responsibilities of or what to expect of their leaders.....
What do you think?

Yimu!
DeleteYea I think it wouldn't be a bad idea. We took a subject called "government" in high school tho.. but it entailed the general studies and the duties of the different arms of govt etc. Not the constitution per say. Then there's "civics " as a subject too.. again that was literally about rights and duties of citizenship. So I align with u, they should input the constitution into one of the aforementioned subjects to better groom students ahead of time.

ReplyDeleteYes to more knowledge.

Why not, its time its been done so our children will know their rights and duties as a citizen. Plus wen they well informed n yeye uneducated police officer will harrass dem or treat dem as criminal for a minor ish.
ReplyDeleteI think so.
ReplyDeleteI dont know about your school but mine Queens school Enugu Nigerian constitution was embedded into the school constitution. I remember those days we used half of 1st semester ss2 studying the 1999 constitution.
ReplyDeleteYes,ooooooo
ReplyDeleteI love the idea... it should be included oh... Nigerians do not even know their rights and that's why all these men in uniforms toy with them... not just that, they do not know the powers of their leaders and so they let the leaders get away with almost anything... my 2 cents on the matter.... A.B Chic
ReplyDeleteFor me, i think we need it, so we could form national unity, Nigeria is just too divided right now. I pray nd hope things get better. God bless Nigeria

ReplyDeleteYes please, though I think parts and bits of it are being taught in schools as I usually carried the constitution to my government class without it no class for you that day....
ReplyDeleteYes it should be included. Kids start learning from primary school In American system. In Texas u do hist 1301, 1302, govt 1301, govt 1302 in freshman and sophomore, that's first and second year in University. You learn everything about the past leaders and how they govern(good and bad). And it's always updated. By the time Obama is stepping down, everything about his govt is in there. It's not a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteKnowledge is never wasted, never. I like the idea
ReplyDeleteIt should please. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYes! Supported.
ReplyDeleteYes it should cos so many of us don't know our rights as a citizen.
ReplyDeleteThat would be fantastic. Been learning on my own.
ReplyDeleteI support this and not just the constitution but Nigeria history. If you dont know where you are coming from you wont have a direction. Teaching the history of our country will build children that will be passionate leaders that will not just come for their share of the national cake.
ReplyDeleteNice thoughts.

ReplyDeleteBig fat yes.
ReplyDeletei am hoping this your comment is just a joke cos if it isn't then i must say that it is the dumbest comment i've read all year! what does teaching kids about the Nigerian constitution have to do with looting? @ queen and boss of this blog.
ReplyDeleteI rather they create and teach children in all african schools how the west underdeveloped africa and how we can be free from the mentality of slavery, then we can be useful to ourselves!
ReplyDeleteThe crisis of bribery, corruption, underdevelopment, selfishness and greed continues in africa as long as our depency on the west mindset' remains with us!just as some of whites till date, teach their kids africa is a jungle with poor inferior black pple living on trees!lol!smh, dats d way our kids needs to be taught to see africa in a different light and the west in a lesser dignified light!
Constitution is least of a problem that is deep rooted.
Hmmm I think this will only produce mentally bias resentful students o. Or don't u think? More like growing up to be culturally rebellious, as opposed to the enlightenment and the full racial emancipation it's intended to achieve. May be wrong though.
DeleteIt should be a core course ranging from primary to University
ReplyDeleteDefinitely
ReplyDeleteYes o!
ReplyDeleteThat is not just a good idea but a bright one.
I do not know "jack" in that Constitution...for real.
Even foreign languages so when one travels abroad, you don't feel lost.
Yes of course. This will inform and empower them as to knowing their rights cum open their minds to making informed decisions and empower them from their youthful years

ReplyDeleteyes it does exist, civil education, and governments also current affair
ReplyDelete@ the queen, loot ke? There is nothing about the constitution on looting o. It will teach our children their right and what they are to expect from the govt. Pls it shld be taught from junior secondary school.
ReplyDeleteYES!! It's long overdue and should be commenced ASAP. Not understanding the constitution is one of the greatest pain Nigerians have. They accept everything and anything due to lack of knowledge. Ignorance is very expensive.
