Senate Ends Hearing On Petition Against Amaechi -Find Out Why!

The senate committee on ethics has suspended hearing on the petition against the ministerial nomination of Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state. Amaechi had appeared before the committee on Monday to respond to allegations of looting and fraud brought in a petition to the upper chamber last Tuesday by three Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators from the state.

In the petition, George Sekibo (Rivers East‎), had argued on behalf of other Rivers senators that the nomination of Amaechi as a minister was questionable, owing to the fact that he was accused of looting N70 billion of Rivers’ funds.

The senators, who are seeking to stop Amaechi’s confirmation by the senate, argued that when the former governor ‎becomes a minister, it would be difficult to make him face charges for the alleged offences However, Amaechi’s appearance at the committee only lasted a few minutes, as the matter was suspended abruptly.

In his brief statement, he said the allegations in the petition before the senate‎ were already being challenged in court. Samuel Anyanwu, chairman of the committee, ruled afterwards that‎ since the issues in contention were already before the court, it would be sub judice for the senate to entertain them.

He held that the senate would allow the court to handle the matter. ‎

Amaechi thanked the committee and left.

  1. Let everyone join hand in the quest for a better country. We should not allow pettiness and sentiments to derail our dream of a great and corruption free country under Buhari.

This Wike is acting like an unintelligent agent of satan.btw these kinds of stupidity is the reason northerners and muslims will always hold power in dis country, cos a hausa man will never do dis to his brother!not after he has been nominated for a post that will enhance their region!but we christians,we think we are wise but always end up being d underdog unconsciously.smh

    3. Hmmm. Another way to look at it is this, perhaps, those from other extracts like to sabotage the emergence of their own people because, once they get to the top they usually do nothing to change their community. No impacts felt.. So they therefore feel it doesn't make a difference to be represented by anyone, unlike the northerners who have fate in their reps. Just maybe o

    4. That our stella is Amaechi Bea doesn't change the fact that Amaechi is fully part of d corruption that is rocking Nigeria. He was a PDP member all ds years, so he is not a saint. Whatever one sows is wat he /she will reap. Amechi did same to GEJ. It's no news let him face his problems. But seriously if Buhari is claiming to fight corruption and ends up submitting names of all d old politicians who are part of Nigeria problems, I wonder where we r going. We r blessed, I believe we hv better and less corrupt men and women who will serve better. All d nominees are multi billionaires but their greed will not let them go out of d stage. Anyway God knows how to punish them all with terminal sickness. Very soon you will all end up in London for treatment. Make una continue, una no dey learn. All d loot will end up coming back to the masses. #Majority of these politicians kids are drug addicts, una go use 8yrs to steal, but your kids will use only one month to sell off all d wealth#
