Radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu Reportedly Arrested

Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, was on Saturday, reportedly arrested by Nigeria secret police, the Department of State Services (DSS).

Director of pirate radio, Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu

Kanu, who is also acclaimed to be the Director of Biafra Television and the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was said to have been arrested in Lagos, yesterday.
The Deputy Director of Radio Biafra, Uche Mefor, alongside other members of the group, in a marathon broadcast on the pirate radio, alleged that Kanu was arrested in Lagos by the security operatives, as he flew into Nigeria from his base in the UK.
The group in a tweet on Sunday, via its Twitter handle, confirmed the arrest.
See tweet below

In a statement published on its website, the separatist movement also confirmed that their Director has been arrested in Lagos by the Nigerian authorities, noting that it (Nigeria) has through this arrest played into the grand strategy of Biafrans. See statement here:

However, at the time of filing this report, Vanguard was yet to independently confirm the arrest, even as the DSS authorities were yet to publicly make any statement about the arrest.

IPOB is a separatist movement that call for the independence of Nigeria’s former Eastern Region – proclaimed the Republic of Biafra in 1967 and re-annexed to Nigeria three years later, following a civil war that claimed between one and three million lives.

    3. Now let me pontificate vehemently on this issue of his arrest, in as much as I dunno support his arrest or detention, I still feel this biafra struggle is a matter dead on arrival. The south east made up of just five states want a country, the south-south which is their hope will fail them. No south-south state will join this struggle I tell u of a truth. Rivers,delta,edo,akwa-ibom,cross rivers states will never join this struggle. And d dss please release him, its democracy we are practicing.

    10. Nigerians are fools in all honesty and don't know their history. Theword biafra is linked with the civil war and stretches further with the average Nigerian. Do we realise that biafra was an actual region which existed in peace when part of Nigeria was ruled by the portugese? The amalgamation of north and southern Nigeria served no other persons interest but the British. I am of mixed heritage and I can assure you my British side got the better half of the so called deal in Nigeria's formation. What does northern and southern Nigeria have in common? The northern part of Nigeria would be better of being their own state as Pakistan was when they split from Nigeria. Most parts of the north are governed by totally different laws of which only those from the north can abide. India and Pakistan had to separate after the crazy amalgamation which they also experienced. The Muslims are different and have their lifestyles as we do, and both of them do no Mr mix like oil and water. The northern elite and the British establishment as well as other western powers do not want an independent southern nation as it wouldn't serve their interest. The process of indirect rule is easier to implement in the north as most of its people are not educated as even UN statisiltics show. We Nigerians busy shout one Nigeria without even thinking that we are part of a western based agenda to mess things up. A so called nation where southerners have no safety up north after 50 years of independence and yet like fools we jump up and down and say one Nigeria. Nigeria is a failed state on all levels and as usual it's uneducated citezens run round like zombies saying one Nigeria. The same midset which we portray is found in foolish married couples who choose to stay married when even a mad man knows the marriage isn't working. The original area called biafra which most Nigerians don't know of because it has been eradicated from our sylabbus in schools were areas which cohabited for century's in peace. At over 50 years we are still fools in the world and we can open our mouths and say one Nigeria. When you hang around the British elit le which I have been privileged to, you realise these folks have only one interest at heart I.e British interest. If the oneness of Nigeria is in the interest of the west, it is time Nigerians asked themselves what is our interest?

The west only cares about the west and unfortunately most Nigerians are too blind to see it. I am pained about the unintelligent way radio biafra is going about all this because they have failed to do the most important thing which is giving very sound background information to enlighten the masses other than embracing a market woman's approach that is heading nowhere.

    4. @money maker, I agree that we could actually be better off on our own. My reservation stems from the fact that the grass isn't always greener on the other side especially since we never knew what it meant to really experience Biafra asides the negative effect it had on our people.
Most of us who are pessimistic about our collective future if Biafra were to be realised, shouldnt be blamed. We are the way we are simply because of experiences most of us might have had. The truth is that in terms of development we (Ndigbo) has been neglected by successive governments but can we honestly place the blame solely at the feet of government? I ask again, what have we done with the little representation we have had at federal level? Nothing. The little development in the S/E cannot be ascribed to any government and credit must go to the people who through sheer doggedness has made Ndigbo relevant despite the unfortunate representations we have had so far. I say this while drawing examples from Nnewi and our respective villages and as an individual, I refuse to give credit to any politician because they have done a horrible job.
Also for the avoidance of doubt, I have nothing against any nation legitimately asking to be self sufficient. The problem with our request IMO is that we (Ndigbo) haven't exhausted all the options. For example, have we as a nation tried to ensure that the right set of individuals represent us instead of following the man with the money?
If yes, can we honestly say that those we have selected to represent our interests have done so to the best of their ability? As individuals, how selfless have we been as it relates to communal development? As I said earlier, we all have our experiences considering various injustices we have suffered in our various communities some ranging from: failure to recommend deserving indigenes for scholarships by some village heads to snatching of peoples land by persons percieved to be rich and powerful etc.
Furthermore, we should draw examples from other nations who agitated and have succeeded. It will interest you to know that they had ticked the boxes as it relates to the questions raised earlier and one will not also find people working at cross purposes due to their personal greed. I hereby ask that we (Ndigbo) should search our souls and ask what the real reasons are for constantly wanting out.
Diversity is part of life and we should embrace it because the grass is almost never greener on the other side and this also includes other ethnic groups asking or agitating for same. People should therefore forgive us (pessimists) for not believing in the dream.
Abeg make una forgive any typo because I hardly proof read. One love.

    5. @stranger before ojukwu fled d civil war, he was about to be killed by his close military officers. FACT. They were tired of his authouritarian ways & felt they could do better. This was in phillip effiongs book.

I wish biafra d best if they truly want to leave nigeria. What i dont understand is d whole hatred they are preaching. Surely there are easier ways to leave a country. Why dont they tell their reps to raise a referendum motion in d house of reps? Then it becomes a LEGITIMATE discussion in d press whether they leave or not & what that process will be like. Its not like 1966/67 when they started wt violence & pple retaliated from a place of anger. NO ONE is going to stop them this time. All this backdoor nonsense is treasonous, which brings forth nothing but hatred. And hatred is a self fulfilling prophecy. Thought igbos were christians. They should know this.

And those comparing militants & boko haram to dis guy - theyre not d same thing. Tribal secession is sthn else entirely. Its changing d economy, composition, history, population & map of a country.

There's something going on in the east. Some illiterate 'money miss road' are cooking something and I pray that anyone who wishes to bring instability or war to the east again will perish! Haba! Stop this madness. You want to fight but you are landlocked, your neighbors hate you, you have limited resources, you are not even United! You have no allies home or abroad, no army. So how do you intend attaining sovereignty within a sovereign nation? Abeg abeg, my fellow ibos, the essence of going to school is to be enlightened. Don't join those road side traders in this bullshit. my dad fought in this war and the things he's told me are not something I'd ever want to even dream about let alone experience. Look at how we backward we are in terms of development and parity with the other major tribes. We are only where we are today because of the strength God gave us. This is one of the aftermath of war. He has raped, pillaged, beheaded officers of the Nigeria Army, yet still waxing stronger. The fundamentalist Shekau and his group at one time reclaimed the city of Jos and renamed it 'SULDANNIYAH' fly their flags in various conquered regions and yet he is still a free man. It is Nnamdi and his peaceful agitation for the recognition of the sovereign status of his people that can easily be harrased and picked up. I can bet u you that he has not and will never incite or stir up Igbos and other sympathetic entities to pillage or murder anyone in the cause of their agitation. I am a full blooded Igbo man, I believe in peace with my fellow men, but in a situation where my people are always disenfranchised, cheated, relegated, made the butt of cruel humour and official scapegoatery, I say that I will not hesitate to do whatever is necessary for the liberation of my people, even if it means obliterating the other regions of this country to achieve that

Every day, Igbos this, Igbos that! Let us seceede and become a country of out own, no way, let us have equal rights with all other players in the soi disant Nigeria, no way. Biafra was fought parochially, without recourse to wider means of terror, but if a repeat of it presents itself today, the world will cower in fear of what will happen to the enemy, every means of savagery, primordial barbarism, wickedness, spiritual power, will be used to fight that war. Later they will say aboki is not corrupt but na dem most igbos dey use now to transfer their money abroad....

    1. It is very sickening when airheads like you join in the discussion of sensitive issues way above your intellect. With your bad English and 'foolhardyness', it only means that you are nothing but a local tout who knows next to nothing, the cons of war. Your SS brothers are supporting you animals? I laugh so hard! When the sane ones know that BETRAYAL would be the order of the day. You are still gonna pass this same undending bitterness and crass ignorance to your kids. I weep for them! Stupid mistake of a woman. I spit on you!

  31. Anon 10:22 I really don't get it, why do you Igbo people go to a region that is not yours to develop it. Why don't you develop your own region. You say Igbo people go to a region to develop it then the owners of the region wake up from slumber and begin to clamor for unrestricted rights to what others have sweated for. Unrestricted rights? on their own land?
Does that make sense to you? Dem send una? so you want them to sit back while you claim and take over their region. Igbo Claimu, it will never happen.

You are big fools for leaving your own regions undeveloped to develop another man's region. GO AND DEVELOP YOUR REGION AND LEAVE OTHER PEOPLES REGION ALONE. What is chasing you from your own region that you people cannot stay there and develop it. Why do you want to develop and take over other people's region. You people have serious mental issues.

When you buy a parcel of land or property with the proper documentation, does it make u the bonafide owner of such property with exclusive rights to said property, or does it mean u're a usurper who wants to hijack the land or the rights of the indigenes? When u're granted citizenship in another country, does it mean u can successfully agitate for rights like the original citizens of said country, or does it mean u want to take over said country and enslave the people? Cursed Yoruba fool.

Those sponsoring him will also make sure their families are save so before you war chant nsobu nsobu ask yourself what your plan is during the wall for your survival.

  33. They are wasting their time with Biafra, I won't support another atrocity against my people after all my folks lost years ago in port harcourt. Our so called Biafra new fighters should channel their energy into fighting eastern state governors both current and ex who enriched themselves by depriving citizens their basic rights.
You guys should ask all Igbo speaking state governors what they did with our revenue allocated fund or explain the kind of development our governors brought to the east the past years. Mr Kanu live a comfortable life in the UK, same way Ojukwu lived a very comfortable life in the UK before he dragged our parents into unnecessary war. Mr Kanu and his likes should be prosecuted and sentenced to prison. Social change need to come from our own leaders like the governors/ministers first before we start clamouring for exit from Nigeria state. You want out of Nigeria state but you fail to develop your environment to make exit easier. No seaport, no development,no known international airport,no good road, agriculture is zero,no good existing morden markets. Ariria/onitsha aba market are dead now. How do you plan to survive outside Nigeria if no plan is in place? Makes no sense. Most of them ranting about agitation can't even handle gun, look at Kanu's picture does he look like someone fighting for Igbo right or his own selfish need. Biafra is a FAILED MISSION.
I do not believe in divided Nigeria, i am for one Nigeria.

U guys had better come together let's see how we can turn the Eastern towns into a wonder land just like u my great brothers did in Lagos,In Malaysia,in India and everywhere in d whole world where a handful of Igbo guys ever set foot.

Lets redirect our passion of Biafra to another purpose. A greater purpose.

Ontop of dt sef,ur leaders aren't loyal and u ppl too sef aren't loyal. U ppl wld betray urselves @ d end of d day and dt is bcos u ppl love money. Go and develop your villages and states and leave the rest of Nigeria in peace.

  39. You keep blaming the British, another one now is blaming the Americans. Is it the British and Americans that looted Nigeria and turned Nigeria to what it is today where we don't have basic electricity, good roads, good schools, basic human rights, good hospitals. I can go on and on with the problems we have in Nigeria and its broken system. When the British gave us independence is the Nigeria we have today what they left us with? They left us with a lot more and we ruined and destroyed our country ourselves.

Please stop blaming the west and blame the greedy, bad, incompetent Nigerians that have ruined the country.

  40. South south people will never join you, they are not stupid like you. You think they will join you so that you can take over their region. Igbo tribe cannot be trusted by any other tribe because all they want to do is steal and take over another mans region.
All Igbos should pack their belongings out of all the other states in Nigeria and go to their states, then we will know they are serious about biafra, then they can break all ties with the rest of Nigeria so that talks can commence on how they can govern themselves and seize from being part of Nigeria's system.

I can't wait to see the day Igbo people will need to obtain visa before they can enter Lagos.

  41. Rivers girl u're a gullible idiot. U people keep on claiming that u're not Igbos, yet u bear names like : Amaechi, Wike ,Okwudili, Obi, Azubuike, etc. Not Igbos indeed! Did u know that ur unanimous leader Saro-Wiwa who betrayed Igbos during the civil war was an inveterate coward? Did u know that he stormed a meeting of Ohaneze-Ndigbo in Enugu in 1994, unashamed and uninvited asking to be carried along by the Igbos in all their plans, after he realised that the same people he sold the Igbos out to do not care about him and the Ogoni one bit? Idiot.

It still does not mean ken saro wiwa, like awolowo, was not wise to see d igbomans character during dt whole 1966/67 debacle. Who wants to subject his pple to slavery by arrogant heartless people dt dont think & were LAUGHING in hausas faces in hausa land after their demonic act? Before dt coup by igbos, there was nothing like violence or bloodshed in this country, not by northerners, not by nobody. Hausas were d lesser (most minute) evil. Igbos made them d way they are.

  45. Very good question
What is chasing you Igbo people from your regions.
If you're that good in everything you claim you are good at, why don't you do all these good things in your own land instead of other people's land.
Why can't you develop your own land and create jobs for yourselves.

  46. Are you minding them, they will kill each other.
Igbos do not love themselves, their jealousy and envy will not let them live together in harmony so they prefer to invest in other places where they know their investment is safe.

Other tribes are very accommodating and welcome them so they live there in peace.
Igbos are not as accommodating to others that is why no one goes there. They are not even accommodating to themselves that is why they cannot stay in their states.

Nobody is saying they should not invest in other states but they need to respect the people who's land they live in, their culture and traditions and not try to dominate or intimidate them.

You cannot go to Dubai, or America or Russia or any country and think because you invested there or bought land and property there you can behave as you like. You have to still respect the law of their land and respect them as a people who have allowed you into their midst and accommodated you in their country to live there and do things that you could not do in your own country because that is why you are in their country in the first place.

You think if all those people from Syria migrating to Germany now start to impose their islamic beliefs on the German people you think they will just sit back and watch?

If you do not like the people or the environment in which you live in, then leave. Go back to your states.
