Man Forges Certificate To Work In A Bank

A 26-year-old banker, Daniel Makanjuola, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos for using a forged West African Senior School Certificate and Lagos State University’s statement of result to get a job at Wema Bank Plc, Marina branch,Lagos Island.

The police said

Makanjuola pretended that he was a degree holder in marketing with Second Class, Upper Division, and had also provided a forged National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate and a reference letter to the bank before he gained employment. He claimed to have obtained the letter from United Bank for Africa, where he supposedly worked previously.

According to Punch, Daniel who is from Ijero Local Government Area in Ekiti State, had joined the bank in 2013, before he was sacked in July 2015 after the documents were confirmed to be fake.
It was gathered that the fraudulent act was discovered after WEMA Bank management had sent a verification letter UBA to to verify the authenticity of the reference letter. UBA was said to have denied any knowledge of Makanjuola and the letter.

After the discovery, the bank decided to write West African Examinations Council and LASU, to confirm the veracity of his documents but both exam bodies disclaimed the results Makanjuola had presented to WEMA
The suspect was arrested after the case was reported at the Lion Building Police Station.

After his arrest, the suspect, in a statement to the police confessed to the crime and explained how he obtained the forged certificates.
He said he made the fake documents because he couldn’t get a job and he wanted to alleviate the poverty in his family.

He said:

“I am actually a National Diploma holder. I secured the fake WASCE and LASU results, using a search engine and CorelDraw application. I scanned an NYSC certificate and used some applications to edit it. I did it in order to put an end to the suffering of my poor family. I am the only son of my father. I want the authority to be compassionate with my case. I was only trying to live a better life.”

A police prosecutor, Inspector I. Okeke, arraigned Makanjuola at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on three counts of forgery.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges before the presiding magistrate, Mr. A. Adefulire.
Adefulire granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. He adjourned the case till October 22, 2015.

    1. I still prefer what he has done though very bad to being a hardened criminal .Some other dude in his shoes will choose the easy way out, join a gang and be terrorising people.

They should make his sentence light if he must be punished.

I pray his sentence won't be too hard though.

    6. You lied yesterday and you are still lying today. Tell the truth so you can get honest solutions.

You used a fake marriage certificate to get NYSC to deploy you where he is, the only way forward is to get a divorce decree and do a formal news paper change of name. Next time don't lie and do fake things

    7. NYSC didn't change your name you did stop being clever by half

    2. But I feel a lot of youths have a mental laziness to do something for themselves. Everyone keeps looking for the white-collar job. Entrepreneurship does not require much capital, it's patience and persistence to grow it. Where there is a need it is an opportunity to create wealth. The idea makes the money. There are a number of things to do. I had been in the bank for 12 years and now on the streets and I have survived since April doing quite a number of legit things and getting income. It might not be as lucrative as what I was earning because they are still growing. If interested contact me via my email chiedualigbe78@gmail.com

    3. Contact this guy at your own peril. This is a new scam targeted at desperate job seekers and unemployed people. They will chop your small savings. He can create wealth yet he is jumping from nairaland to different blogs trying to collect N5000 and N10000 from innocent desperate people, do this at your own peril

  9. I know someone who forged a B.Sc and NYSC certificate and she is currently working in a bank...don't worry when your story hits the news you will finally understand the importance of concentrating on your studies instead of doing runs.

  16. They should leave the boy Jor...
Atleast he forged to better his life unlike others that do terrible things and get away with it.
Shey banks are looking for 2.1 graduates to use and dispose like sanitary pads?
My only problem with this young man will be if he didn't upgrade himself educationally within the 2yrs he worked.

  17. Yimu! Like his case is peculiar? What happened to all them House members and senators who had before now forged certificates? Nada!!! Only the poor are named and shamed in this mo'f****** Country called Nigeria. If jobs were available and the govt both past and present were concerned about its citizens nothing like this would ever even happen. See Nigerians with their young children and wives risking open sea and the Atlantic just get off this country... That isn't shameful enough? In this very country One day, to borrow the words of the "Prophet" #SoundSuLTAN Bush-meat go catch the hunter!
