Fourty-five Corps Members To Repeat Youth Service In Lagos

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Lagos State, Cyril Akhanameh on Thursday disclosed that 45 corps members, who absconded during their service year will repeat the service.

“Forty-five corps members will repeat their service year due to physical absence from their places of primary assignments,” he said.

“Many of the corps members left their places of primary assignments for over three months without permission; when queried, they could not give any genuine reason for being absent.

“The level of their punishments will be determined by the level of their offences; many of them will repeat, serve for three or four months in any part of the states that NYSC Authorities will choose”, he added.

NYSC should be made optional especially when most graduates will still enlist voluntarily. #teamghostcorper

    2. Those calling for nysc to be scrapped were either above 30 after graduation, served in a remote village or haven't even had a first hand experience. Nysc is a stage everyone wishing to attain great heights should go through. From orientation to POP was a different experience compared to my six years in school. If you lack discipline, after orientation camping, surely I say, a little would be instilled. It also fosters unity. Abeg stella my unborn children will go through this wonderful scheme called NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE CORPS.

  12. They went to continue their business or hunt for jobs and probably found something and had to stay away from the joke of primary assignments where being retained is not guaranteed sef. NYSC is totally useless, the aim is no longer viable too as the country is not safe.

    1. What masters can one possibly conclude in just one year?
You need to find joy in serving your country and an opportunity to do so. What other thing is greater than this?
Most of us complain but how bad Nigeria is but we have also failed contributed to the rot by just folding our arms and watch things go wrong without attempting to do anything. In NYSC you'll have an opportunity to contribute your quota to serving and building your country.
      GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

  20. Stella calm down, it's normal Nysc punishment in my time some were given 3months extension....Nysc is an ordeal abeg, I don't want to remember my 3weeks in camp!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. No!!!! The NYSC shouldn't be scrapped for any reason. The NYSC will do better if it's been restructured by the government. Most people rarely leave their state of birth or origin to see other parts of Nigeria and people, experience different Nigerian cultures and traditions, customs and norms, foods and dressing, language and arts .......Nigeria being a country of many tongues, makes integration very difficult. NYSC is a program that was initially designed to bring about unity, tolerance among citizens and exposure to other people's way of lives. The NYSC has done alot in these regards. We've heard about how people's stereotypes about another tribe changed after they were posted there to service, we've seen people find love during camping, get good job during service just because they were retained by the company were they served. NYSC, helps you appreciate the beauty in the Nigerian people, NYSC makes you also see the rot in the Nigerian government and probably help you develop the desire for change. It was a youth Corp member serving in a remote village of Koma Hills that alerted the Nigerian government about the killing of twins in that area. Youth Corp members also engage in some community development, at least we've heard of you Corp members that built one thing or the other and gave it to the community where they served, we've heard of bore holes done by Corp members etc.
There's a need for restructuring and not for it to be scrapped. Of course I know there are a lot of negative things going on in the NYSC but in general it does more good than harm at the end of the day.
    GOD BLESS NIGERIA.

    3. @Paragon7ven, NYSC is also a program that has led to the loss of many lives thru accidents, rituals, boko haram killings, abortion of innocent babies, death of ladies thru abortions etc. We should always address the two sides of a matter.

  39. Good that will serve as lesson to those that are never present in the PPAs, yet they collect their Alawe monthly. Yes its a place where atrocities are commited but that atrocity is committed by choice not by force. Who wan misbehave go misbehave. Repeating 12months hurts but it serves them right. NYSC shoud be reconstructured, not scrapped it has its advantage(s) to......

Must u comment abi u no undergo Nysc? how can u say d Nysc scheme shud be scrapped bcos some group of unserious ppl who were supposed to obey d clarion call and serve this nation well under the sun or in d rain refuse to do so. U shud know that NYSC has bye laws n its all contained in d brochure given to corpers while in camp. If u can't obey, then b ready to face d consequences. To serve Nigeria is not by force and so if u must serve, serve well!

  41. on a more serious note,NYSC is just misbehaving, they did head count on a weekend and started punishing corp memebers dat were not around, when in some LGAs it was done for one day instead of 2...i was even in d market when i heard d news dat sat. morning,i couldnt make it to the council dat day, went d next day nd it didn't hold. Now batch c corp members dat were supposed to pass out yesterday and didn't do the headcount are now facing possible extension because their certificates were not issued to them yesterday, which is not fair.. stupid, freaking NYSC
