This is some serious ish meeen!

DEALING WITH HEPATITIS B

Dear Stella,

Thanks for this platform where you give people the ability to express their minds and get to talk without any fear of intimidation. I was introduced to this blog of yours and never knew a day like this would present itself where i send in something that bugs me and i can't discuss with anyone.

I work in a respectable company and i'm quite okay, through this year i have Had only had two girl friends and i'm so confused why i have to find myself in this situation. The first lady wasn't faithful and i discovered and we both went our separate ways. This is like four months ago then i met another lady who we just had a fling together once and since then i have not being with any lady.

Now the problem is that i went for a medical check up early this week and when the result came out, i was told i was hepatitis B positive, this is just a screening though and i have been sooo down since then i'm starting to feel the symptoms which i never felt before i heard the result ( Feeling weak, Tummy pain below, ichy skin ) don't know if all this is because i'm scared or it's all in my head.

I immediately the next day had to go to one of the Government Hospital to do a thorough test but was told to come back on Thursday. This looks like eternity to me and i'm soooo mentally down now because i can't discuss this with anybody.

Please is anybody out there that as gone through such and came out of it. Please don't curse out just tell me what really happened while you were healing and did you stop your work and all. I don't want to tell anybody because i'm scared of loosing my pride, family and Job.

    1. It is VERY VERY curable! Pls don't mind this stupid anonymous... After the confirmation test the doctor will tell you what to do.
Meanwhile... stop beating yourself... HBV can be transmitted through something as small as sweat from an infected person... so you see, you can get it in a public car, crowded places where you do body contact (not sex) like rubbing against someone's sweaty hands and all that...
Chill... you will be VERY fine!

This has been happening since his birth.i complained to the Dr and he said that since he does not have cough that the nose will clear on its own that it might probably be because his nose paryicleswas not properly sucked out at birth .pls is this normal

  7. you don't get HB through sex alone. I did mine yesterday and it came back negative. Kpele the Lord will see you through and please take a leave of absence so u don't infect others.

  8. Hepatitis B is serious but I think if it's handled properly it isn't life threatening. The only problem is that viral infections tend to stay with you for life. Drugs just render them inactive .

For those who haven't gotten Hep B vaccine, please go to a near by hospital and do so. They'll give you 3 shots spread out over a few months. Don't take your health for granted. Please use a condom or you abstain from sex.
Always take your partner to the hospital to run tests before you engage in a sexual relationship because condoms aren't 100% safe , and they break. It may seem tedious but it's doable.

  11. @poster dnt even get me upset.
U got hepB and now ur pinning it on them poor ladies.
Did anybody tell u 2skin dive?
How sure are u that it's not been in u all this while and just started exhibiting itself.
Besides u could have gotten it from other means other than sex.

    Now back 2d above...
HepB isn't a death sentence. In majority of cases, our body immune system has been structured to fight of d infection 80% of the time whilst d other 20% of persons goes on to progress to chronicity.

Having said d above, hepB could be deadly if not tackled on time cos it destroys d liver and on d long run,d said individual wld require a liver transplant.

    My advice.
Keep calm and den go 4ur doctors appointments.
Just eat appropriately, veggies and pls stay clear off alcohol and cigs and hopefully ur body would be ideal enough to fight it off.

I know it's sexual transmitted though

  13. Hmm. I doubt you can weather the storm alone. You need to let someone know. I know of someone who had this and with the support of his work place and family, he's fine now and has an almost unexistent viral load. The drugs used to manage and treat hepatitis has a lot of effects. Some people are even pushed into deep depression and consequently suicide. You need to have people around you who will understand your circumstances and help you through it. Also if you fear for your job you can take some time off..a leave or something. I should also warn you that treating or managing it can be quite costly, I hope your organization has a comprehensive health plan for staff , if yes, sincerely, you have to let them know about it so you could benefit from the health plan. Wishing you the best. You can beat it

    1. Habis it depends on the kind of family anf friends he has. This present Nigeria, people discriminate alot. Hepatitis B is not that bad if he handles it well.

@poster, i don't know if Envelop Antigen test and Liver Function test was among the tests that you did. These tests will determine if you are just a carrier or not. If you are a carrier, you are ok. All you need do is maintain a very healthy lifestly and you will be fine.
If the two tests i mentioned above were not done, INSIST on doing them.
I have diagnosed lots of people with this condition and most turned out to be carriers and they are all perfectly fine (as at then though, don't know about now).

It is well. Educate yourself very well about this disease so you will appreciate and understand it better.

      Goodluck.

  19. Poster i can feel your pain. You dont ve to allow it weigh you down. From what am seeing u are having some pychological issues which makes u to feel ill, presenting with the symptoms u explained above.Nevertheless HBV is every contageous.I will advise you to immunize your wife and children if they ve not done so.Then stick on a strict treatment.Avoid alchohol and its likes 'cos HBV deals with the liver and liver cihrosis can set in leading to a serious complication.Meanwhile it is not the end of the road, get your treatment, avoid the avoidables and live a clean life.Goodlock.

  29. SMH!! When People discuss this issue of HP B, sometimes i wonder why the first thing that comes to their mind is "SEX" who said you can only get that through sex? Please tell your doctor to educate you more on that and stop killing yourself over something that hasn't even killed you. Yea, it's gonna be there for a life time, but you can handle it and not even transmit it to someone else. Get yourself immunized against it, then take prescribed Antibiotics from your doctor. Keep clean and stay out of stress.

The disease don't last a long time (if contracted within a short time), your body will fight it off within a few months and you'll be immune for the rest of your life. But e, if you've had it for more than 6 months, your body won't get rid of it oh (you be carrier), even if you don't have any symptoms. You go on to have liver disease or cancer.
It's even good you didn't contract HIV (I just got the Hibbie jibbies thinking of it). God help you oh. So you go around smashing raw?

  35. Avoid alcohol, try and look for Milk Thistle herbal supplements and avoid unnecessary medicine. If you start showing symptoms, your liver needs to heal on its own. You may feel very ill at some point with jaundice, fever, indigestion. But hopefully your liver will heal on its own and you'll be fine.
