''Good day Stella,
Please help of get this info out and perhaps the State will listen to our concerns. This building was a one storey duplex but is being converted to a two storey building for a restaurant. We hear it's "The Place".
It is located directly opposite the Kafi Street entrance to Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, Ikeja.
A part of the building just collapsed yesterday evening, damaging my neighbour's car and narrowly missing his driver.
The matter has been reported to the police but we don't want this to be swept under the carpet.
I doubt if the building has the right foundation for the ongoing redevelopment and if indeed they are building according to the approved plan. It is sad that we don't have value for lives and Nigerians would easily endanger other lives without a care in the world.
I have attached some of the pictures we were able to take of the incident and trust that you will help amplify our feeble voice.
Regards,
Kene Okoye
If the original plan was a bungalow and they want to convert it to a storey building, then it is wrong. Whoever owns the building together with the contractor need to be held responsible. Quest for money these days no de allow us see road.
ReplyDeleteI hope this gets to the right authority.

Imagine!
DeleteThey want to turn it 2 hundred story building.
This is unbecoming of landlords in lagos. It's pure greed and nothing more. Before BRF left he tried to demolish the unauthorised renovations of this kind, but people were quick to turn it into tribal issues becos most of the owners were none lagosians.. Lagos state needs to ban and fine landlords like this abeg. Too many buildings that are even authorised have been collapsing lately, not to mention the illegal ones.
DeleteIt's not even completed yet,it is already collapsing bad structure and foundation
ReplyDeleteNa wa ooo..
ReplyDeleteNa wah oh...
ReplyDeleteThank God no life was lost...
hmmmm, na waoh
ReplyDeleteNa wa oo .
ReplyDeleteLagos state government, take note.
Oh my God! Tank God no life was lost. Pls the appropriate authorities should look into it. It is high time we start attaching value to human lives.
ReplyDeleteNa wa oooo
ReplyDeleteLolah
Tank God it is not yet completed and functioning, imagine how many would av been dead and injured. Naija my country! Before u know it now, the owners will settle the authorities and finish the building.
ReplyDeleteIt is well. May God protect me wherever I enter in this country. What of those buildings that av not been reported because the building have not yet collapse?
ReplyDeleteYour neighbor can make good money if he sues!! He would get money for the damage...
ReplyDeleteDey shld do sometin fast b4 it kills someone
ReplyDeleteThank God no life was lost.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they do that. The actual plan for the foundation is a bungalow, why add more to it. Thank God no one was injured

ReplyDeleteThe contractor should be arrested and jailed!
Substandard buildings are what we see everywhere dis days
*faithful BV enemuwe thelma*
I am sure there is no approved plan for this additional structure on the building, may God deliver us from the hands of developers and contractors.
ReplyDeleteBuilding collapse everywhere in Lagos.
ReplyDeleteLASG should look into this.
Thank God it is only the car that was a bit damaged. Over grown baby Ambode take note and do the needful
ReplyDeleteHow could the government approve this building. Knowing that this could be an old building, I can be sure the structure is no longer strong. If they wanted to build they should have demolished and built from scratch.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure no govt will approve such. Has to be illegal
DeleteThe rate at which Lagos landlords convert buildings eeh. Both the contractor and the landlord should be brought to answer questions;.imagine, thank goodness no life was lost
ReplyDeletehaba!!!!! these is not a collapsed building, abi no be the same picture we dey see.
ReplyDeleteget them to pay for your car. awoof money
thank God no human life was lost, but the damage doesn't look that serious especially to the car
ReplyDeleteFaithful Father.... Thank God no life was lost...
ReplyDeleteAwesome God's His name..
Wheres the collapse? the blocks on the car?
ReplyDeleteGood day stella. I live right next to the said building and even as I write, the authorities are yet to seal off the area. Infact the the owners got trucks last night and cleared all the rubbles which shouldn't have happened because it amounts to tampering with evidence.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbours and I had to raise alarm when discovered that they actually came back this morning to continue working and knock back the fallen metals into place.
This truly is appalling
Dis one na collapse? Come to Agungi to come see collapse na. i'm sure the engineer will be able to advise on whatever happened. Thank God no one was injured
ReplyDeleteThe building doesn't look collapsed to me though, neither does the damage to the car look major
ReplyDeleteBut should serve as a wake up call for the owners to go back to the drawing board
I am an architect,
ReplyDeleteThis doesnt look like a structural failure in any way. there are just blocks shattered. No structural member looks failed to me.
The steelworks of the building are still looking intact.
Sorry for the damaged car, make sure the car is fixed at Honda Place...
The steelworks, as you put it mr architect sir, are not intact. Part of the steel work fell from the initial position and is now resting on some blocks. Structurally, there is a major flaw somewhere.
DeleteThe windscreen of the car cracked from inside. This is a brand new car that is barely 3months old
