APC’s Prince Audu Answers The 11 Billion Naira Question

In a tweetChat with his followers today, APC Candidate for the November 21 Kogi state governorship election, Prince Abubakar Audu cleared the air on the N11 billion allegedly looted by him, amongst other questions tweeted at him by Nigerians using the hashtag #AskAudu. His answer:

“When I was in office between 1999 – 2003, we received average monthly allocation of N350 million - about N16.8 billion for the entire 4 years of my tenure. With these, we paid all salaries, we built Kogi State University, Obajana Cement Factory (now owned and run by Dangote Cement), Confluence Beach Hotel, Stella Obasanjo Library, Paparanda Square, Govt. house (Lugard) House, Government Office, secretariat, the banquet hall, started the confluence stadium and built the Lokoja township stadium, others are the Fed. Medical Centre + equipped same with 25 state-of-art ambulances, NTA Kogi, Radio Kogi, Kogi Graphics Newspaper, 75 rural electrification projects, the presidential lodge, Governor's lodge, Abuja, inter-state roads; We also built the specialist eye centre, commissioner's quarters, 200 housing units, just to mention a few. In 2002, the Fed. Govt. instituted a panel to evaluate and reward performance. Out of 12 awards for the 36 state governors, I won 7 awards. Now, how could all these have been achieved?

When the then ruling People’s Democratic Party saw me as a threat, they started instigating Kogites against me, and when the people couldn’t buy into that, having known the truth, they orchestrated my arrest, which led to my being dragged before the ICPC, CCB, CCT and EFCC.

When all that failed, the then PDP led Kogi state government took over and issued a white paper, banning me from politics for 10years. I proceeded to court, and the court ruled that the Kogi government has no such right to ban me from politics.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has also taken me to 7 courts in total (4 in Kogi and 3 in Abuja). In each of these cases, they’ll always pull out before judgment is passed and go back to frame up new figures; I was 1st accused of stealing N1.5b, then N4b, then N8b and finally N11 billion. It’s also on record that I was the most pursued politician by the EFCC, as the PDP wanted my head at all cost – always during elections.

And so I ask all Kogites and Nigerians, how could my administration have achieved all we did with less than N6 billion, if N11 billion was missing? Again only the work I did in Kogi State stands there today. The PDP govt. since I left office, has received about N550 billion, without accounting for it.

So the questions should be where have these funds gone?

Why are Kogites still languishing in abject poverty?

Why is Lokoja the dirtiest state capital in Nigeria?

 Why has EFCC been mute?

Clearly the PDP led EFCC had a different agenda. I leave these thoughts to my fellow Kogites to mull over and ponder. The truth is out there for those who care to know but my happiness is that all well-meaning Kogites know the truth and have pledged to support me and the APC to victory ahead of the November 21 Governorship election, as I promise to do even more, when we eventually take up power.

  2. I am starting to think that God deposited major mineral resources in Kogi then Kogites cursed themselves by always voting bad leaders. The truth is since 1999 he has actually outperformed other successive governors in the state. I cant remember the name of the person who said, people deserve tge kind of leaders they have and kogi being a small piece in a big pie.
Kogites and Nigerians as a whole need to try new hands because for the love of me, I can't figure out why the same set of old politicians insist on running for offices while the gullible electorates keep voting them back. How can a state with millions of people, continue to produce less than 10 persons every 4 years to try out for governorship?

    1. True talk. It really baffles me that we keep recycling and voting the same set people and expect a different result. To whom brain is given, sense is expected.

    3. I wonder too o. Na so so recycle like waste bag. Just what I was listening to earlier on today on Channels news. Sulieman asked Senator Akume why vibrant youths btw the ages of 25-40 aren't given the opportunity to at least serve in the cabinet. Although the man gave a reasonable answer.
He said that it's a process, as they'll have to start from as little as the chairmanship positions in their jurisdiction, and then climb up the ladder from there.

So the question remains, will they give them the chance in their constituencies so that they can attain the federal appointment level eventually?? Which youth of today can afford to sponsor himself to win any election? Not unless ur father is a politician and he's sponsoring u. This is when godfatherism comes to play, and I think we want to completely eradicate that from our electoral system.

The merits and demerits of individual is what should be considered. Point is it will take a long time to get the youth to that level of becoming a governor or minister...at the rate at which these old men are still holding on to power at all cost. What they should do now is start to groom those with potentials instead of recycling themselves. All selfish politics jare

  13. Look at his face like shit that was stepped on by a dwarf at the bush. LONG HISSSSS. Audu and his like are the reason i hate APC as a party. Is he the only man in Kogi state?
APC want to give Nigerians change but are bent on dealing with people of questionable characters.WHY? Change slogan makes no sense to me when i see people like Audu trying to return to power after looting their state.
Nigeria youths need to step up their game and organise a new party meanly for the youths, age gap should be 18-45. We need to take charge of our destiny by booting out the wicked old men we have in power. There's no way any party in Nigeria will win an election if our youth have a vibrant party with young party leaders. We need to take our country out of their hand. Same recycled old men and women year in year out, it's a pity.

  17. Audu is a pathological liar naw. In 2003 & 2007 when Isaac Alfa wanted to contest they wouldn't allow him, because they couldn't control him, and he opposed the usual arrangement of paying party members out of state funds.

I think Kogites should boycott the election. They shouldn't vote. OR file a petition for Buhari to appoint a governor of Kogi. That is the only way they can be sure of progress in that State.

  18. To start with Audu- lokoja is not the dirtiest state capital in Nigeria. You witheld salaries for over 7 months and you did not pay pensioners because you call them deadwood. You converted old buildings to many of the buildings you are counting as achievement. Then you forgot that you collected billions of naira as loans. Which part of the allocation did you use to build this lavish palace?

  19. This culture of impunity needs to be eradicated in this country.

How has what he wrote up there addressed the 11bn he's accused of stealing?
What the heck is happening to EFCC and ICPC?
How can someone indicted for corruption still have the guts to come out to contest for the same political post he was accused of mismanaging?

This kind of news disgusts me.

    1. Lol. What he has explained essentially is that he couldn't have stolen11B from what he was allocated in the years he served and still be able to accomplish the said projects. I guess that's his answer to that query.
