UNILAG Students Hold Protest Over Bedbugs And Mosquitoe infested hostels

University of Lagos Students today shut the university’s two exit gates, to protest what they described as the invasion of bedbugs and mosquitoes in their hostels.

See the reason they are rioting.....

PICS EXTRACTED FROM VANGUARD

This was dropped in one of the comment section this Morning....

''Dear Stella,I'm a humble visitor of this great blog,Unilag students(guys) woke up as early as 3am disrupting the school and shouting no more bedbug!!!,vehemently, they almost entered my hall, which is Queen Amina hall, where I reside. The present DSA in June told us (students) to vacate our hall of residence to enable them to fumigate the rooms but nothing was done, but for the people ,that came to fumigate to steal our things.

Now the students are staging a riot. Stellez if you see these bugs..hmm na hell.it sucks! And the most silly thing is the beds we use have not been changed for over 10years now. Its a pathetic situation ..tnx. Stella''

    4. Nothing I no go see! Student welfarism is always poor in the hostel...but you guys can use another medium to approach this instead of disrupting the whole school activities.

If those already expelled students joined you guys and destroy some school properties definitely you guys will be held responsible.

You will not only pay but your academic program would be disrupted also. Learn how to use media to achieve your aim.

I still have goose bumps! They finally got the place fumigated but many people would have got takeaways to their homes and cars. SMH.

  3. Lmao @no more bedbugs.

I remember then, when we protested because of lack of water and electricity for weeks.

The boys made placards, which read, 'No water,no light. Our girls are smelling '.

    Rotflmao

We had a run in with the police. Injured two and dented their armoured vehicles with stone.

We were made to vacate indefinitely for a month.

Oh, the nostalgia of those days.

    2. This is why i like my school,
Firstly,we buy our mattresses, after the section, you are to carry your property and look for where to keep it off-k,apparent from lockers..if you leave bedbugs striken bed, say bye bye to it...when you checking into the hostel, inspection is also done...

secondly, every semester they fumigate all the hostels, just last two weeks...it was fumigate although we were angry cos we are on session and its wrong health wise

Anony in my school too, hostelers do same every session.

  15. The rot in our educational system is appalling. Look at the mattresses students are made to sleep on! Am very sure their expenses for running the school showed buying of new mattress for students.

They should have asked the students to bring theirs from home instead of these dead ones!

  16. Are unilag students not allowed to bring their own beddings to the hostel?...I wonder why they use those mattresses that look like a mad woman's abandoned property.

  17. Dey shld fumigate their hostel nw.

  18. best school in Nigeria cannot fight bedbugs. lets look at the students first, most of them come from poor environments and the bedbugs must have entered into their clothings.

  19. Na wa oo! This is serious

  20. Oh my God.... Like people actually sleep on those horrible things??? Honestly these demonstrating students should be ashamed of themselves! They are waiting for government to come get rid of bugs in their mattresses. How did the bugs get there in the first place? Im guessing government also had something to do with it. #sigh
Its about time this generation stopped feeling so entitled, get off their lazy butts and do things for themselves!I mean how much is a 6spring mattress for Gods sake? What does it take to disinfect and keep your environment clean? As we know, bugs cannot thrive in clean environments. Bunch of lazy, dirty students... I shudder to even imagine what your toilets look like...Why don't you also wait for government to wipe your behind after you have gone???

  22. I stayed in the hostel for three years and out of the three years I used new mattresses twice. So I'm yet to understand y the poster said it has not been changed for 10 years. That is a big lie! Students are dirty, forget that they form a lot n they know the way these bugs reproduce is alarming if someone shud bring it in. The school was fumigated so the students shud search within their selves to know who brought in the latest batch of bed bugs. Btw i stayed in Newhall!
