Wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has endorsed the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for a second term in office.
Mrs. Tinubu, however, said this could only be achieved with the help of God even as she called on the supporters of the party to pray for Ambode towards this end.
The senator, who represents Lagos-Central senatorial district in the upper legislative chamber, spoke during a town hall meeting with her constituents on Wednesday. While making the opening prayer, the South-West Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Magnus Atilade, prayed that God should help Lagos to produce the first female governor in the country.
But in a swift reaction, obviously to clear the air about a speculation that she might run for the Lagos State governorship election in 2019, Senator Tinubu said it is her prayer that Ambode gets a second term.
Tinubu’s wife, who spoke in Yoruba shortly before reading her speech, said, “I am not supposed to comment on the content of the prayers of our bishop, but I need to say this. We know that many are eyeing the governorship position but by the grace of God, Governor Ambode will do a second term in office.
“By the power of God, he will. We should put this matter in prayers. We thank God for what he has done and may God continue to do better ones. Thank you,” she said.
Her comment was followed by a resounding chorus of amen from the APC supporters.
The senator, who also gave post-secondary school scholarships to 25 youths in her senatorial district, urged Nigerians to shun bribery, corruption and respect the rule of law.
“Let us think of what we can contribute individually or collectively rather than what we can get from our country. It is time to turn over a new leaf. it is time to change from the old ways of doing things,” she said.
