Police Arrest Couple for Buying Stolen Baby for N150,000

A couple at the weekend were arrested on the orders of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, for buying a stolen baby for N150,000.

THISDAY gathered that the couple, whose identity was yet to be unveiled, had been unable to have children for years, so they opted for another option, albeit illegal.

Instead of going through the legal route to adopt a child, the couple planned and hatched their plot in connivance with a medical doctor.
Pretending to be pregnant, the woman alongside her husband deceived her relatives and neighbours on the authenticity of her pregnancy.

Upon reaching gestation period, they went to the hospital and carried another person’s baby, a two months-old baby, in connivance with the said doctor.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Owoseni said when the couple were arrested, they accused a doctor of selling the baby to them.

He said: “They stole a two-months-old baby. She was never pregnant yet she claimed she had a baby. When we arrested her, they claimed the doctor gave them the baby.

*sad sigh*

    3. What comes to my mind is not about these people that were caught...what about those who did it successfully? They went to buy a baby to manipulate people's thinking about them. Na wa o.

  11. This is bad though their state is a pitiable one. I wonder why they make adoption procedures so long. Don't they want those kids to be with a family?

  13. Stella, abt d woman dat claimed she was chained to the urinal at Samaria clinic in today post, I want u to know that that woman and her husband r ungrateful and wicked pal. She went to a nurse for delivery and her case was mismanaged the baby had died in her womb and when she got to Samaria clinic, the doctor decided to save her life first, her complications had already given her vvf, doc did the surgery and instead of them to pay up, the hubby abandoned his wife in d hospital for weeks. She was discharged in Saturday morning without pay, and by Saturday evening herself and he r hubby had come up with that cooked up story. To tarnish the hospital image all because they think lies will see them thru. Mr and Mrs Ugwoke go and pay ur hospital bills! I'm the bv that said I would get back to u on dis matter.

  14. In their on case its just not the legal process that discourage them but need to convince family and friends that the child is biologically theirs.

  15. I understand her pain but she shouldn't have opted to stealing another woman's baby, to ease her pain she wants to cause pain to another mother.

  16. Why not adopt legally instead of stealing?

    1. So wrong a decision... I think the ministry or agency in charge of adoption should enlighten the masses on how to go about it.
Why should you steal a child seriously?

  17. Hmmmm Imagine, they should have just gone through the legal process.it is well

    1. The legal process takes too long and it's very expensive. The government needs to look into the adoption process because that's the only way these baby factories and kidnapping will stop.
