Nigerian Pastor, Tunde Bakare, has disclosed details of his meetings with former President Goodluck Jonathan, and what he benefitted from the former leader while he was in office.
Mr. Bakare, a former running-mate of President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011, said he wrote four -point letter to Mr. Jonathan, calling his attention to the level of impunity in his administration.
Giving details of what he benefitted from the immediate past president, Mr. Bakare said, “Let everyone declare what he has received. I can tell you what I received. I took two people there one day and he invited us to dinner. I had a bad sore throat that day, so I took a pass regarding the dinner.
“Another day, I took a couple there and I took a cup of tea. I told you about the $50,000 which I refused, but that was Orubebe. He sent me a cow at Christmas – which I gave the staff to kill – and a hamper through our pastor in Abuja, but I told him to keep it.”
Mr. Bakare stated this in an interview with an Abuja-based magazine, THE INTERVIEW.
The pastor revealed that at a point, the former president offered to give him “something”, which he refused and opted for simply a pen.
“Finally, when the opportunity came and he (Jonathan) said, ‘I will like to give you something’. I [then] said ‘I like pens: so if you must give me anything, let it be a pen, so that I can show it to my people and say ‘the president gave me a pen,’” he disclosed.
He said one day, after a meeting with Mr. Jonathan, a former minister in charge of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, rushed to offer him $50,000 for “transport”, an offer the pastor said he turned down.
“When we were leaving, Orubebe ran after me and offered me $50,000 for my transport. I said, ‘Haba, take your money, I am not for sale’. We said goodbye to him and the rest is history,” Mr. Bakare said.
Giving details of his meeting with the former president, Mr. Bakare said, “When he (Jonathan) became president, I said to him, ‘the things we marched and protested against, you are now perpetrating them – the same impunity’”.
“I gave him four points in writing. Before we left Lagos, I gave a copy to Pastor Adeboye and another to General Alani Akinrinade. I said, ‘we are going to say goodbye to this man’ because if a man cannot keep his own side of the bargain, because if you got here by the grace of God and not because of any pedigree and, within 10 years, had become the president of Nigeria.
“God has brought you into the kingdom for such a time as this, so you cannot begin to commit the same impunity,” he said.
Mr. Bakare said in another meeting with the former president, he (Jonathan) told him that he needed someone to tell him the truth.
“He reached out to me later and said, ‘look, let’s put that behind us; Nigeria’s situation is critical.’”
“Before I went, I called General Buhari and said ‘this man invited me, I don’t know what for.’ When I got there, he said he needed someone who could tell him the truth always. I said, ‘if that is what you want, you have me at your side,’” he said.
Mr. Bakare therefore challenged religious leaders to declare what Mr. Jonathan gave him, saying the clergy did not tell the former president the truth because they benefitted from him.
“However, you see, Christian leaders benefitted tremendously from his administration in terms of licences and waivers. The thing is, when you allow those in power to get you into any compromise, speaking to them will be very difficult.
“I don’t know if any of those allegations were true, but I have seen enough to begin to think that they were not able to use our overwhelming influence. If you have benefitted from evil, you cannot talk about it, nor criticize it. Let everyone declare what he has received,” Mr. Bakare said in the magazine interview.
$50k?..Orubebe!!!!
I see him getting an appointment with Buhari and i hope he will not turn it down.
Useless pastors everywhere......How is this crook a pastor self, just using the title to push through his political career, why are u spilling everything now, why didn't u say it while he was president. Bastards
ReplyDeleteBecause you're dull & do not read you wouldn't have known he said all this before.you call a man who's a very senior lawyer a crook? A man who denounced the Islamic faith to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ & you call him a crook? You are a part of this generation I feel so sorry for. With these insults, you have heaped coals of fire upon your own head
Deletemay God forgive you.
Yeah, he should have said this while Jonathan was still president. That way, his level of honesty would have been applauded. Are you fishing for 'favours' now?
DeleteThank you...
DeleteYou just said my mind...
You are very uncultured, insulting people anyhow on all blogs. Grow up
DeleteThank you! Why he no talk am then? He was even frequenting with the visits!! Abeg pastor!
DeleteMay God forgive you,for you are still young.
DeleteBiko pass me Orubebe's number let me help u keep the 50k usd for transport. **side eyes**
DeleteOK so what are we to do with this info sir? Applaud u for not receiving from the national cake? Well, that was good of you.. but.....
Stella, this man's destiny isn't to serve Nigeria in a political capacity. I dare say... if he was destined to serve Nigeria, Buhari would have won when he was his running mate. So u see, I think he should therefore stick to his ministry and the critiquing of the government officials from his pulpit. You cannot serve God and Nigeria at the same time. They'll be conflict of interests.
Bet you would ask, what about Osibajo who's also a pastor? Well, I guess God preferred Osibajo to the very "loud' unassuming Bakare.
Bakare is NOT a humble man. YES HE IS NOT!!
I sincerely think that Bakare is overbearing and somewhat over righteous in his attitude. I admire outspoken and fearless people, but there's something about this man that doesn't seat well with me. Couldn't pin a finger to it though. Strictly my views.
OK bye
This is no news. And it was widely reported when it happened. He called it bribe and the government was embarassed and changed it to transport fare.

DeletePresident Jonathan Offered Us $50,000 Bribe, But We Returned It - Pastor Tunde Bakare Confirms
Fiery Lagos-based pastor, Tunde Bakare, has confirmed to Saharareporters that President Goodluck Jonathan provided a $50,000 cash bribe to a delegation of the Save Nigeria Group that visited him last Monday, but that the group sent back the money.
Did Bakare count d money? How did he know d money was $50K????
DeleteLiar oshi..Fake pastor!
Ur sentiment will make you blind tonthe major issues. Whereas he said it when GEJ was President, you wouldnt know though, u cant comprehend.
DeleteThe important issue here is Religious organisations should stop compromising, they should stop being partisan and do their job.
If they gave only 10pple $50,000 for transport, do you know what diff that will make in this Country for the masses n they spent more than that.
Think outside the box sometimes, it helps
Dont stress yourself GBG, they'd say its a lie since its fromSahara Reporters
DeleteSisi Eko u get wisdom jare.
DeleteWhy rebuild spilling now oga pastor?
Useless pastors everywhere......How is this crook a pastor self, just using the title to push through his political career, why are u spilling everything now, why didn't u say it while he was president. Bastards

DeleteIs this THE Femi Idowu?
DeleteHe said it while JONATHAN WAS PRESIDENT. Maybe u shld read d news Mr Eze.
DeleteYes Irene B
DeleteDid you know that its possible to make a point without insulting anyone?
DeleteYou people need to stop taking things out of context. This man was being interviewed and was asked about any benefits he received during Jonathan's regime.
Did you really expect him to be quiet? Besides he said this years ago.
It's your mother I blame for not training you well....small girl who got pregnant for the neigbourhood dick head.....she should have used a condom but her promiscuous ways no let am......I don't blame you, you were not taught better

DeleteLol,Normal thing.
DeleteWhen I told u people dey give girls $10k a night.
Dey there
And we wonder why the economy is comatose, give whores $10k n other guests $50k. Which country can survive that
DeleteLoyalty is everything, so for those complaining like Israelites about Buhari's appointments y'all should know that his appointees have been loyal to him for years despite what they could have got from others.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteI'm glad you &him did away with d 'merit' argument. He just carry him cronies put for power
DeleteGod bless you. Loyalty is key.
DeleteBesides those asking why he mentioned this now must have missed it the first time because he did say it and called it a bribe. I think the FG then said it was transport fare or so.
Lmao. Who made you or anyone the authority on who is a false prophet and who isn't?
DeleteI still maintain that you need to be careful about how you choose your words.
There are a lot of pastors whose doctrines I don't agree with but I'd never call anyone false, that's between them and God.
A liar and a shameless fake prophet
ReplyDeleteGbam!...
DeleteBlasphemy. If you got nothing to say just keep quiet.
DeleteBlasphemy???? I laff! Lafresh, I can see ur pastors have brainwashed u.
DeleteI joke with everything but not with people that are anointed. Don't joke with God.
DeleteNwa amaka, can you please keep quiet.
DeleteThis is not about "knacking".
We are all Gods anointed!
DeletePeople be using God to Lie.
Anointed with what? Red oil or groundnut oil?
DeleteWhy call him a liar and fake? Has some1 denied what. He said? Or has he told you something that did not happen for you to call him those names. Please let's not be quick to judge, just become people say this or that does not make it real, get your own confirmation before condemning people.
DeletePastor face ur church.. even if u were offered must u say it...
ReplyDeleteWhy won't he say it?
DeleteDon't mind him ... Am very sure that he wasn't offered even 10kobo!
DeleteHmmmm
DeleteHe is an asslicker..Why make dis public? We are not his church members..We dont wanna know.
Delete50k dolls for what ?
DeleteAll this are in d past.lets move forward bikonu!
DeleteWow the last administration really finished our economy. Thank God they failed out. Imagine $50k for transport? Smh
ReplyDeleteMtcheeeeew..running mouth, what does he stand to gain..and to even think he's a "man of of God" politics is a dirty game,so I wonder why pastors dabble into it
ReplyDeleteMy dear, it is this mentality that has killed us. if Christians are allowed to function in business and positions and in the work place, and are being identified as church leaders in these places, they won't be able to stain their hands without accusations. Let Christians come out openly and declare their intentions in politics and notable position. So they can be castigated when things go wrong. If you keep telling them to remain in church, they will keep hushing about their spirituality and easily get away with corruption. Muslims don't hide nau. They like to be identified wherever they are. Why should Christians be told to stay out of political affairs?
DeleteI'd everything this man has said is true, then I respect him. Because I know may notable men of God who have stained their hands with GEJ'S money did not tell him the truth.
DeleteThere we go. I wonder too.
Deletehmmmm look at this man saying shit
ReplyDeleteyou won't be a minister
#GODWIN™
If u guys don't see the lie in this, you'd never see anything. Ministers almost being appointed and he comes to spew this. Smh.
ReplyDeleteAlmost??? Ministers have bn appointed since 2 weeks ago. Buhari submitted d 40 names last week. And d pastor said these things YEARS ago. Ur sttmnt is useless.
DeleteBut he already said this now, a while back. I remember reading it. Besides. He was probably interviewed and this came up and he had to speak about it.
DeleteI'm not a fan of his per se but I definitely remember reading this in the past.
Trust me what he said has nothing to do with what you mentioned, moreso he has said this before and from what Stella wrote it's an interview he probably responded to a question that was asked.
DeleteEka joy never disappoints with her ways of thinking and reasoning.....always out of context. What has this got to do with ministerial slots? If you have never read this story before, then u probably just arrived Nigeria last week,,cos this story was all over.
DeleteTrust your uncouth self to come back to insult me but I'll still not disappointed cos its no news again that ur morals and upbringing is terrible.
50k dollars for tfare .my God .
ReplyDeleteWhy is he saying all these now? Is it really necessary?
ReplyDeleteDont see any reason why a pastor cannot join politics.
ReplyDeleteLike d part where he said"if you have benefitted from eveil you cant speak against it".
Evil pastor, you are not a pastor mtchewww
ReplyDeleteStells orubebe na jonathan servant na. He was only delivering the message.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder ORUBEBE wanted to incite tribal war during elections. D man has bn swimming in money. Shameless. You will make other children kill each other bcos of your bank account. He needs to be stoned i swear.
Deletea.k.a EDWIN CHINEDU AZUBUKO said...

***CURRENTLY IN JUPITER***
Hmmmm....that us how they wasted our money like water. Posterity will judge them
ReplyDeletePeople should learn to ignore the messenger and face the message. The question is did orubebe offer him $50k for transport or not? Judgmental people everywhere asking if he is a pastor or politician! That's his business with God and not man!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Deletehttp://thejuixreviews.blogspot.com.ng And why are we just getting to hear your story now? Hm, make una leave us oh; before una join satan and God together. *Walksaway...
ReplyDeleteThe Bitter man is here. 1st to make a comment and reveal his ignorance. @Henry Eze, If you are hearing about the offer for the first time, say so. This is something he has said over four years ago. He is saying it again because GEJ has come out to say that the Clergy should say what they benefited from him. If you were in his Shoes you will also talk. He is cleaning his hands. If it doesn't please you, keep up with your frustrations.
ReplyDeleteDo you Agree? Couples that sext have better sex
Pastor so has what u said edified anyone? For u to con life others collected shows how self righteous I are. U think I are the only good pastor? Be careful as u think you stand, lest you fall. Jus like Jesus told Peter when he was concerned amd putting eye on John, i will rephrase ... oga Bakare face your walk.
ReplyDeleteNigerians...u don't like to hear the the truth...this mam is saying the truth...and u all condemning him haba....
ReplyDeletePoint of correction, not Nigerians, it just few noise makers on this blog, dignity one's don't make silly noise. DeleteIs he related to FFK?.
ReplyDeleteNdi talktalk
Like RCCG International limited pastors cannot come out and declare all the custom waivers and other export duties they gained from Jonathan govt that made them blind to the truth.
ReplyDeleteThey should just register as Reedemed Plc and pay Nigeria back all d taxes they owe.
Hypocrites all of them, Hypocrites!
God help Nigeria.
Chai $50k, Orubebe come release your own statement ooooo. Come to think of it how did pastor Bakare knows that the money is 50k? did he collect the money and counted before returning back to Orubebe? I smell rat........
ReplyDeletePastor Bakare was it a bic pen? U might be a pen collector and we know there are pens worth thousands and even millions of dollars. So show us the pen u collected or forever hold your peace. Self righteousness.
ReplyDeleteWe all know that during the election money was exchanging hand ie btwn Jonathan and some pastors. Sentiment played out. Churches were supporting Jonathan despite the fact they know he was ruling Nigeria to ruins. Lets be truthful in our judgement.
ReplyDeleteAm so surprised and dissapointed in blog visitors.
ReplyDeleteDoes it mean they dont follow the news or what?
This incident happened in 2010 and not recent.
Why did he not mention this during Jonathan's administration? Cowards everywhere.
ReplyDeleteExcept he mentioned it during Jonathans administration. Who is jonathan? You igbos are funny frauds. How many of u spoke up & were jailed during d military regime????? Pst bakare spoke so much against abacha he was BUNDLED TO PRISON. Came out from prison and continued speaking against Abacha. A lot of yorubas did this and continued till Abacha called for elections. Igbo cowards. Paper tigers dt only backbite in their homes. Big jokes. It is FFK, a yoruba man, uve recruited to talk publicly on ur behalf against d north now. Where are ur leaders to say publicly what you all say on blogs all over d internet? Cowards!!!
DeleteWhy is he just speaking up now? Oh? I forgot. Buhari is now the president and every1 wants appointment. Mtchewww. Oga pastor, face ur church.
ReplyDeleteFake political pastor....only those who don't know you will be moved...tueh
ReplyDeleteI dont understand oh! He did not collect or count the money, how did he know it was $50k?Na wah.
ReplyDelete5 bundles of 100 dollar bills equals 50,000 dollars. No need to count. Dunes wake up!
DeleteHe doesn't need to count. 5 bundles of 100 dollar notes equals 50,000 dollars!
ReplyDeleteDid he count d bundles to know it was five in number?
