Omotola Calls Out Lagos State And Federal Govt Over Their Silence On The Death Of Unilag Student Who Was Electrocuted.

Nollywood star actress Omotola Jalade yesterday tweeted her piece of mind following the death of the UNILAG student Oluchi who was electrocuted by high tension cable on Tuesday night.

Any Parent will feel the pains in her tweet...You sit at home thinking your child is safe in School and you are called and told that your child is gone, killed by someones Negligence and there is silence from those who should show care...

Questions need to be asked, why did the wire come down?
Why was it not maintained?
Who should be held accountable?
Why is Lagos state government quiet on this?A word of Consolation from them will sooth the grieving parents and others!
Somebody should call Gov Ambode's attention to the Incidence cos its possible he has not heard!

  1. I agree with you Stella. Both state and federal government do not care about this electricity of a thing. I know a woman and a baby who has experienced same thing but lucky enough, nothing happened to her. #sosad

    1. I fink its more of d responsibility of d Vice chancellor to make a statement not d President, we cannot all blame him in every tin. Even though I dislike him. Omotola took it personal, I wonder what she hopes to achieve with her recent social media Postings. International recognition I guess or does she want to stylishly enter Politics?

  3. Negligence is a terrible thing. We should also be our brothers keeper. Let's learn to do things for ourselves. This is a lesson for all. Even in churches, people find it hard to pick dirt on the floor or even mop water if they see it. This can cause accident. If you can't do it, beckon on the ushers. You never can tell who this will affect.

    RIP Oluchi

  5. She was making sense until she tagged those international media. That was less smart of her.

Always Thought she was a smart one but I thought wrong.

    2. Whatever her motivation (which I suspect is less than honorable) she has drawn the attention of the Federal Government to this unfortunate incident. But me I don't understand what concerns Lagos State Govt. with this electrocution matter that happened on the Federal Government's property.

Let's all try and educate ourselves on the roles and responsibilities of the different tiers of government so we can appropriately and effectively fight for our rights.

  8. And she had to Cc Times magazine and CNN?
Agreed that nothing has been done but please leave the President out of this.
People die everyday and he cant release a statement per death.
Her death is a painful one considering the circumstances surrounding it.
Idi, leave international media organizations out of this.
    Let's handle OUR mess OURSELVES.

  11. What a country! This country is just practicing the 'all man for himself and God for all' thing. Senator Oluremi Tunubu will still expect a second term for a governor who doesn't have time for the people that put him in power. *yinmu*

  12. Please people should think before writing. Am so disappointed at omotola right now. Firstly is it the president's fault that the wire cut off? And if any one has to issue a statement, it should start from the school's VC! The care of Nigerian students lies in the hands of the VC. Do you know how many Nigerian students have died? While in the school premises? And for you to CC CNN and Times, you dey too forward. Just because people love u doesn't make everything u do or write right madam. I feel the pain, and may her gentle soul rest in peace. But why not put blame on those who are to see to the welfare of its students. Start with the school managemen/administrators first. I schooled in unilag and all they no Is money but maintenance of facilities is TOTAL ZERO!!!! Even classrooms are total write off.

    1. Exactly. Why are people skipping the hierarchy of responsibility??? I feel sorry for the deceased, Moreso for her folks. But people shouldn't use her case to score cheap points for attention

  13. Why calling out Federal Government Omotola. What has Unilag done to keep the institution in safety. Only to eat money from gullible students that are looking for admission.

Omotola it is enough. Sit down and take care of your family.

Even classrooms are total write off and the hostels are nothing to write home about. I've rested my back unknowingly on those run through wires in the rooms before, and I got this tingling "shock" we complained and nothing was done. What we were told is not to rest our backs on it when the wire is just right by the wall where the bunks are. May God protect us all.

  18. The truth is that we don't value human lives in this country. The citizens and the government have their own share of blame.

My condolence goes out to the parents and family of the deceased. RIP

  23. Unilag is a federal institution so why calling out Ambode?
As much as I feel her but why copy international bodies? This looks like hypocrisy. What happened to channels, vanguard etc?

The management of Unilag is crap. Same way they kept denying that rapist.
The death of the girl is really a pity. A first class material for that matter. May her soul rest in peace and may God comfort her parents and loved ones.

  24. Stella I just read in punch this morning how the girl oluchi was taken alive to the health center in unilag, she and her sista who was also affected. They were refused treatment at first because they didn't have their ID cards with them. Even when the older sista came to see them, she said the girls eyes were opened and she was breathing. The sister was asking if they have atleast given First aid and the nurses didn't answer her.
A health center is school again, when its not like it was a pregnant old woman they brought. Did those girls not look like students? They were coming from church, there is every possibility they were not holding their ID. That unilag health center is a crappy place, I never neared the place while at Unilag, it was only to do my medical I went there. And the nurses are very rude.
Why is our health system so messed up in this country and why do we have nurses and doctors that are sadist. Especially nurses, if you are not satisfied with your job or ur pay, why not resign.

  25. Thanks @omosexy for speaking out. Its high time values are regarded. The president should respond to this. We are talking about human being here, a young ripe girl. We should change how we see ourselves, I count as a Nigerian, my basic needs must provided by the Nigerian president because my one vote was counted. He should be held responsible to bring someone to account for that.
If it's me, I will sue unilag, lagos state, nigeria as a whole.

  26. What if she copies Buhari or CNN???. Pray to God not to ever loose a child in their prime. Omotola is pained from a mother's point of view, se she has daughters around the same age. What if its ur own daughter, your junior sister. When punch went to visit the mum, she was not even coherent enough to talk. You carry a child 9mths, nurse dem thru infancy to adulthood. Struggle to get admission for them, keep them in school. A 1st class student that could have been anythn. The mother wld have been looking forward to her graduation and eventual marriage and grandkids. Put urself in people's shoes.

  27. I was at Gbaja childrens' hospital with my child one day. I was called from her school after seeing doctor, we were asked to buy an injection because my baby has been throwing up and running high temperature. The nurse that will administer the injection told me to my face that she is tired and went to the lubby to watch aferican magic. In desperation, I went to see doctor who told me that it's not in his place to give injection. I was stuck with the injection and my baby was throwing up and loosing strength the nurse told me that if I am angry, I should write to Fashola that they are short staffed. As I was about moving out a nurse called me and administered the drugs and a baby not mine died in that hospital.
Some nurses are very mean. When government has provided everything for the masses there should be an avenue for the masses to get across the government to complain. Its a pity!
