Man Steals Baby And Gives His Girlfriend To Sell.

The Abia State Police Command has declared a manhunt for one Uchenna (surname unknown), for allegedly stealing a four-month-old baby boy who he gave to his girlfriend, Kelechi Uche, to sell.

Police Commissioner, Joshak Habila, who paraded the Kelechi in Umuahia, said she was arrested by members of the public at Osusu Aku where she was looking for buyers.
According to the police boss, Uchenna and four other suspects, still on the run, stole the boy at gun point on August 21 at Ntigha Uzo in Obingwa Local Government Area of the state, and handed him over to the girlfriend to sell.
He said Kelechi drew the suspicion of some eagle-eyed members of the public who spotted her on August 26 with a baby who was crying uncontrollably but she could not breastfeed him.
The CP said she was arrested by the curious members of the public following her incoherent and unsatisfactory answer when she was asked if she was the biological mother of the baby.

“Because of the suspicion, she was immediately arrested and handed over to the police at Ugwunagbo Division for further questioning,” the CP said.
He added that upon interrogation, “the suspect revealed that the child was stolen by her boy friend, Uchenna, and four others and given to her to sell.”

The CP said the suspect also revealed that the baby was first kept in the house of one Mrs. Love Chinkata , also on the run, before she collected him to sell.

Police said efforts were on to trace the biological parents of the baby and to also apprehend other fleeing suspects in connection with the crime.

Punch report.

  1. If they're not selling babies you will see them in baby making factories. Too common these days especially in the eastern part of nigeria.

  7. This trade in babies is something else. I hope the police can concentrate on smashing the syndicate involved in the buying ,that would be the permanent solution. Those buying these babies, what do they use them for? I pray it's not rituals o.

This is how they steal and kill babies for rituals. On thurs last wk at mcc junction by awada in onitsha, some guys in a jeep drove by and dropped a dead young girl from thier vehicle with her head and vital parts gone. It happened in the afternoon in the full glare of public. Okada riders who were there when it happened said they were afraid to chase after those guys cos they might have guns with them. I saw the corpse with my two eyes,i couldnt stop to take pics cos of fear. Abs tv came and taped everything before they took it away cos the corpse was just in the middle of the junction. pls lets be careful these days. A lot is happening. May God continue to protect us all. Amen

  19. Stella please all this stories you are posting about kids is vexing me, I'm tired of reading tragedy day in, day out. I'm not being tribalistic here, but Igbos you people need to do something about your youths. Something is going wrong in your society and your elders need to address it, if it's not drugs, it's rape, now selling of babies or kidnapping. This get rich or die trying mentality is killing your society. Money maker instead of abusing Yoruba and saying a president slept with his daughter in-law. Shebi it's not his daughter like dat animal ysterday, na inlaw. You are looking into another mans compound when your own compound is full of weed. To say the truth it's a NIgerian problem, but before you fix Nigeria, you need to fix your own society. This need to get money by all means to take money home for Xmas is getting out of hand. And they parents will collect blood money without asking the source. Pls this is not abusing one tribe over the other. But Igbo elders wake up from slumber. Your youths are causing mayhem worldwide.

  20. For all you care, the girl fit say they need the money to do traditional marriage in December. You know Igbo marriage list and bride price is very high. As the girl desperate to become mrs, she say make she assist the guy. Imagine, snatching baby like ur snatching car. But on a serious note, in my bank about 2yrs ago, do you know a banker stole money meant for ATM. The next thing he said is he didn't have money for traditional marriage and d girls family is puttn him under pressure to pay bride price in December. I just SMH

  21. Igbo Elders are busy shouting of marginalization while their society is totally dislocated. All the appointments of yesteryear wetin dem use am do? Instead na to dey oppress and show bad examples to the youths. Even during the slave trade era people don't breed babies for sale. Its appalling. We need to look at our societal values once again and discard all the things that put undue pressures on the youth. Our youth are drug pushers, kidnappers, fraudsters and worst of all selling their seeds for money. Most young girls have been turned to mere baby producing machines with no emotional attachments to these babies. Where has the motherly love gone to. This is not about poverty it is pure depravity. The future is really looking bleak. Which kind leaders are we breeding? Heartless monsters?
