Jesse Jagz Says He Hasn't Been To Church In Eight Years..

Nigerian rapper Jesse Jagz grew up in a church which his father headed, the rapper has said that he has not been in a church in over eight years.

He argued that what really mattered was a person’s relationship with God and not the period of time spent in a religious institution.

Speaking with Punch, he said “I think every human is spiritual. Prayer is communication with God and there is no definite way of communicating with God. My dad was a pastor so we grew up in church. However, I have not gone to church in eight years. I believe education does not only exist within the four walls of a school the same way God does not only exist in a religious institution. He exists on his own. Growing up in church has made me realise the most important thing is to have a relationship with God. Human beings take religion too seriously.”

The rapper who left his record label for over two years told Saturday Beats why he left. He also expressed his feeling about his brother, MI, being his new boss.

“Coming back to Chocolate City has been wonderful and I am glad about the expansion of the record label. There are more employees and better creative control for the artistes. I left because after I finished recording my album, ‘Thy Nation Come,’ I played it for the record label but for business reasons, they did not want to release it. Actually, if you have listened to the album you would know that it is somehow controversial and you would understand why the label did not want to release it. So I went ahead to release it myself.

I am happy for MI and Ice Prince as they have become the CEO and MD of Chocolate City respectively. I would also want people to understand that MI has always been our president, I have always been the think tank of the trio and Ice prince has always been on the administrative end right from when we were in Jos. I would say those are just titles but everybody has been playing that role. I am a shareholder in Chocolate City and it was so even when I left two years ago,” he said.

I have always wondered if despite the supposed bad name that some pastors are giving the Church if it okay to just say going to church doesnt really matter.Does it say anywhere in the Bible that we must go to church?
Is Jesse right? Is what matters our relationship with God?I dont go to church every Sunday and i argue like Jesse but on some Sundays i pick up myself and say'heck i need to go praise God in an atmosphere of praise!'.

Please step forward and preach on this if you can quote a bible passage to back up THE MUST GO TO CHURCH STAND.
As the debate goes on,please forward this post link to Jesse if you know him..lol

For me,i go to church to obey God's first instruction(forsake not d gathering of saints),but religion is in my heart!cos one's conscience is ones god also!

I love it when my Priest starts this song: Kabiyesi ooooo,You are the king above other kings, kabiyosi etc. That song gives me joy, puts tears in my ocular metiti and melts my heart.

What matters is your personal relationship with God.You don't need validation from any Pastor whatsoever.

  9. The bible said seek out the congregation of the children of God. The early Christians lived a communal life of praying together in one house. Again God has a special temple called churches today he always preferred to be worshiped in the bible.

Any Christian who doesn't find it important to attend churches and fellowships should go for serious deliverance.
I don't know what is wrong with Christians these days.

    2. When you fellowship with Christians you grow spiritually. Truth be told many of us don't open our bible except we're in church. It's like saying you won't go to school but only read at home and then sit for exams. Na road to serious failure be that. Even if you don't attend every sunday, there are mid week services. Just make yourself available as often as you can. Na so dem go talk now when sickness or poverty strikes they'll start running from pillar to post looking for man of God to perform miracle.

  19. I dont like arguments relating to God and church..

    All i believe is:
1)Know your God and have A very good relationship with him..

2)Have A good heart and always do things that would please God

3)Abstain from any immorality that would keep depreciating your relationship with God..

In the aspect of Going to church every sunday or not;all i can remember is the commandment which says:
REMEMBER TO KEEP THE SABBATH DAY HOLY!!

Now any definition you give yourself out of this is between you and your God alone irrespective of you going to church on sundays or not..

Alldsame,we are only humans and are made of the Flesh;and God's words, his ways and the pattern he does his things/Judgement will always remain A very big mystery to man..

  20. People that are still at this basic state of argument are so backward spiritually still. If going to church wasn't necessary why did the early Christians gather? Didn't Paul write letters to the church? Don't forsake the congregation of the brethren, the church helps you grow spiritually, its not for you to idolise à man or your pastor. Its for you to learn and grow, Jésus went to the temple to teach, he ministered to multitudes gathered together. This was the beginning of the church as we know it now, when people of like minds gather together, they learn and grow. If you're disobeying à basic instruction to gather with brethren, which relationship do you think you have with God? Okay if you say you don't go to church, how do you advance God's kingdom? Do you pay tithe? Do you go out to evangelise ? Don't be Psychedelic about spiritual matters, all the human logic and phonetics in this world WILL NOT atone for disobedience. There's NO COMPROMISE in thé kingdom. God is NOT man. Raabish!

  23. Well, if he has a personal relationship with God and pays his tithes, wetin be my own?

Going to church does not make one a Christian as sleeping in a garage does not make one a car.

There are people who go for every church service, even during the week, but commit unforgivable sins.

Not like going to church isn't proper, but each to his own.

You can praise and worship God anywhere, but it's better to do it in the midst of saints because 'iron sharpens iron' (proverbs 22 vs 17).

Everyone has a relationship with God and it's either bad or good.
In my opinion going to church is essential and it depends on the church too.
A relationship with God is also a relationship with the Holy Spirit and I am very certain He will convict you till you dust your shoes and your bible and locate your family 'cause everyone belongs to a family(church)
Even Jesus went to the Temple.

Hebs 10:25 says "not forsaking the assembly of ourselves together as the manner of some is but exhorting one another and so much the more as ye see the day approaching

Church attendance, participation, and fellowship should be regular aspects of a believer's life.

Someone who belongs to Christ should have a desire to worship God, receive His Word, and fellowship with other believers.

Jesse Jagz your father is/was a pastor does not mean you have a relationship with God.

Use your time to fellowship with brethren not to smoke weed

I stopped taking church seriously when all the pastors preach about was/is money money money and speak ill of other church's or religion
That does not sit well with me cuz it puts evil tot in their members and make them hate others just becz of their religion.
I pray to my God and he answers

  31. Hmm! Well, what really matters is your personal relationship with God. Truth is, the church has been polluted with all sorts of atrocities that's why some pple don't even bother. But in the end, its between you and God.

  38. It quite interesting to read the commens of the so called blog visitors that claim to regularly attend church. They have been quick to quote scriptures to back up why one must atend church. Yet their Commens are abusive and extremely judgemental, while the poster just merely states his own point of view without being abusive or judgemental.

The question now is do we actually reflect Christ in the manner in which we conduct ourselves.
Going to church is not indicative of one spiritual status. I hae come across several people that would never miss a church service and can qoute every known verse in the bible in a heart beat but by their conduct, would give the devil himself a run for his money.

  41. If Jesus went to the temple, I don't see why we shouldn't. Were the scribes not corrupt? Yet, that didn't deter Him.
Of course, Christianity is about having a relationship with God, but it also means to fellowship with the brethren; fellow Christians. What does it mean to be a Christian? To be a follower of Christ.
So do as Christ did and instructed, and stop making excuses.
    But to each his own.

  42. The " church" is not a building. The church consists of Christians which are the body of christ. Christians make up the church. Paul, in his books emphasised on the gathering of the brethren. Don't get it twisted, it is essential to have a personal relationship with God but we all know that the only way of understanding God is through his word. The word of God which is the bible could be confusing at times, we can't understand everything on our own. Hence, the need for fellowship with other believers. No man is am island. Fellowship with other believers helps in growing our faith. The atrocities of some pastors and other ' believers' in church shouldn't stop you from going to fellowship with the church just as a bad musical year wouldn't stop you from singing the next year. I do pray that you have a special encounter with the holy spirit ; he's the Perfect teacher. God bless you Jesse!
