An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday in Lagos slammed a N100,000 bail on a 26-year-old company empolyee, Dayo Moses, who allegedly stole toiletries worth N6, 000 belonging to his employer.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Ishola Samuel, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 11 at about 7.20 a.m. at the premises of Spar Company Ltd, Lekki.
He alleged that the accused stole the following items: six pieces of Nivea roll, Joy soap and Nivea body cream valued at N6, 000, property of the company.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 285 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 (7) provides seven years imprisonment for offenders.
Magistrate Olanike Olagbende, who gave the ruling, adjourned the case to Sept. 30 for mention.

Wow,his employer must have been very angry to have taken this case to court.!
I feel so sorry for him but he must pay for his crime so that it wont happen again.
Very nice.
ReplyDeleteIt's high we stop treating criminals with kid gloves.

ReplyDeleteWhat about Stella oduah, allison madueke etc! N100,000 for N6,000? That's madness. Bail should be set at nothing less than N15k or 35 days in jail, or 200hours community service. A repeat offence would attract one year jail time
ReplyDeleteAbi o....including those thieves in the Halliburton scandal.
DeleteWell said
DeleteHow did this case even get o court. Why not sack him and just let it rest. To the petty thief now just imagine his stupidity or greediness.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than jungle justice or purnlishing her themselves. Before sentiments go enter the matter, and people will accuse the employer of being mean bla bla. Let things be done lawfully and people will behave.
Delete@ Money Maker.. ur comments on here could bag u 21yrs imprisonment if u're prosecuted any court of law.. crime of folly is a grave crime. and u my friend is guilty everyday of it. like ur parents forgot to raise u with any sense at all..

DeleteAboki,na wetin the man of money do u for dis blog?
The company must have done it to serve as a lesson to the staffs.
ReplyDeleteHe stole and should pay the price for his action.
ReplyDeleteNawaooo for what now
ReplyDeleteWell 6000 is a lot of money for a serious business minded person. Na all this small small money dey reach millions. Still it doesn't make sense to go all the way in this naija, cos the money you go pay police to come arrest d guy alone don pass the money wey dem tiff
ReplyDeleteWell, ordinarily the punishment doesn't fit the crime committed, but the law is the law and theft is theft.
ReplyDeleteIf a Politician steals 100Billion he's bailout would be 50k buh if ordinary Man steals 2k he's bailout would be 5k...Nigeria which way??
ReplyDeleteHaba!
ReplyDeleteSeven years is too much.
They should tamper justice with mercy..
Gobe
ReplyDeleteah!!! na wa o
ReplyDeleteAlways quick to judge and sentence petty thieves while the real thieves walk freely about receiving medals and accolades.
ReplyDeleteAs for the guy, why ruin your future over such immaterial stuff? I just tire for poverty mentality abeg.
My dear, let them start to deal with petty thieves so that they won't graduate to the ones u mentioned. If the glorified thieves were convicted earlier enough in their lives, they prolly won't be a menace to the society today o. Na from small e dey start.
DeleteYou are making plenty sense this morning.
DeleteOkay what of the dedicated primary school teacher in delta that went to steal chicken because he could not afford to feed his family.
DeleteSisi eko.
DeleteWell said.
This is unlike ur normal self.
A thief is a thief.
ReplyDeleteBut I wonder at the country's justice system though. Why is it so easy to quickly jail a small thief whose impact is not so damning and find it difficult to jail a big thief whose thievery jeopardizes the collective good of many?
The big ones even get little or no sentence as long as they are forced and begged to return a minute fraction of what they stole. Hmmmmn. But...
I have a dream!
That someday, Nigeria shall be a country where thieves of all sizes shall be served their just recompense.
A dream?
High and Mighty are set loose to steal more. poverty stricken individuals are made to pay more for being poor.
ReplyDeleteNigeria our great country. All these judges, remember that God will judge you all. I condemn stealing but your judgement is always very harsh on poor thieves.
I think this employee must be a chronic thief. He must have been stealing and his Oga will be pardoning him until this one. So the Oga wants to teach him a lesson. Cos the cost of prosecuting this case is way past the 6,000 he stole.
ReplyDeleteYes that serves him right.
ReplyDeleteNa wah oooo
ReplyDeleteIt's better petty thieves are caught and punished before they become corrupt politicians or armed robbers
ReplyDeleteConfuse gadimakwa for the sentencing!
ReplyDeleteThe punishment should be commensurate with the offense. This is absurd
ReplyDeleteEasy na Aboki, lolz
