Addressing journalists Wednesday in Lagos, the publisher of the magazine, Chuks Nwoko, said the award ceremony would be chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He said other notable individuals to honoured at the ceremony include a former chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Funke Fadugba, Leo Ekeh, CNN’s Isha Sesay and Nima El Bagir.
The publisher also revealed that Compassionate Prize Award winner for 2015 event would go to Little Saints Orphanage.
According to Mr. Nwoko, the listed individuals had played unique roles in the different objectives of the MDGs, ranging from poverty reduction to health related issues, education, youth empowerment and social investment.
He noted that the role of the media in the attainment of the MDGs had also been extraordinary.
“Mention must be made of the Ebola epidemic and the unique role of the CNN duo of Isha Sesay and Nima El Bagir.
“The enormous social investment by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the Nigerian health sector, agriculture and women [empowerment] are a strong reminder to the significance and importance of creative capitalism in the contemporary world,” he said.
The publisher however recalled that in the year 2000, former President Olusegun Obasanjo signed the MDGs protocol at the United Nations on behalf of the Nigerian people.
“As the 2015 deadline for the Millennium Development Goals approaches, and with the initiation of a new campaign vehicle, MDG Global Magazine has announced its 8th MDG awards holding on Thursday October 1, 2015 inside the Banquet Hall, Lagos Sheraton,” he said.
Speaking further, Mr. Nwoko said former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, would be the Guest Speaker, while Olumide Osunsina would be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.
