The All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly penned down likely replacements for Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is currently standing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over charges of false declaration of assets levied against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).
Saraki is being pressured from several quarters to resign as Senate President on
moral grounds pending the conclusion of his trial which has been adjourned until October 21, 2015, while reports have emerged alleging that the APC is planning on moving to have Saraki impeached from office.
According to National Mirror, the APC is already considering several top ranking senators to replace Saraki in the event that he resigns or gets impeached.
According to the report, the leadership of the APC have already shortlisted former minority leader in the 7th Senate and former governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume and the wife of the national leader of the party, Senator Remi Tinubu as well as two unnamed senators from the South-West zone.
According to several sources, the APC has favoured the South West zone for Saraki’s proposed replacement as the search has been limited to the zone, shutting out the South-East and South-South as there is no APC senators from these zones.

And again, this will only delay the screening of the ministers that'll be passed tru the Senate. Another quarter is arguing whether it is proper for Saraki who's under probe to deliberate over the Buhari cabinet. What will Saraki be doing btw now and October when his case will be heard again? That's the question.

ReplyDeleteTinubu has no power to remove Saraki. By now u should know that. Otherwise Saraki wouldn't have emerged the Senate president. Votes now count, and the only thing that can happen is if people are manipulated to vote him out. But he (Tinubu) certainly cannot manipulate the votes of the Senate. They need the unanimous verdicts of the PDP and the APC to achieve that.

We expect a credible senate president to be elected whether apc, pdp, or whatever! Their political parties after elections are irrelevant.
