BABY DANIEL WAS BORN SICK..READ POST HERE

This verse of the Bible most aptly describes the person of Stella Dimoko Korkus, a blogger with a human heart. A blogger who proved to the world that she is a woman with a motherly heart. This conclusion was arrived at by a recent occurrence involving the life of a new born baby named Daniel.

Daniel was born with a medical condition known as Birth Asphyxia. This is a medical condition whereby a baby is born with insufficient oxygen in its blood. This usually results in infant death, and if the baby manages to survive, it usually ends up deformed with some level of brain damage. The father of this baby was paying the sum of #50,000 every day for Daniel’s treatment.

 On a particular day, he met Mr. Austin Edoho the editor of VOC News, a popular media agency that is dedicated to promoting positive values, and helping the needy, who interviewed him and wrote a story on Daniel’s condition, published it on their own online news platform ( www.vocnewsonline.com ) and thereafter sent out the story to various bloggers to create awareness about Daniel’s situation. 

It was quite shocking and disheartening to realize that most people are just not concerned about the plight of their fellow humans. A lot of bloggers are only interested in carrying stories in order to drive traffic to their site. Against the norm, Stella didn’t just publish the story, but she went ahead to contact someone who made a cash donation to settle Daniel’s medical bills. She also kept in touch with the family through personal calls. 

Through her blog, a lot of people got involved with what was happening, and most sent some cash donation to the family, while many others called the family and prayed with them. As a result of the prayers and financial donation, Daniel has been discharged hale and hearty, and the bills are cleared. We just want to say a big THANK YOU to Stella, and every person who supported this family in one way or the other. 

Let’s be our brother’s keeper, while bearing in mind that the greatest investment you can make is adding value to the life of another human being. Let’s show love to people, irrespective of their class, tribe, or religion. There are many cases like this everywhere. Reach out and support such people.

My name is Hasan Rrahmani, I work for a media critique show on Aljazeera called The Listening Post, this week in our programme we are looking at the media coverage of Boko Haram. The North Eastern territories of Nigeria remain one of the most difficult regions in the world to cover. Which leaves news consumers with a picture so incomplete that it is sometimes hard to believe that this is one of Africa’s most deadly conflicts.

We are looking for video contributors to send us a short video recording answering one of the questions below. Your video  comment will be shown in our programme after we feature our piece on Boko Haram.

If you would like to get involved then please record your answer using any mobile phone or tablet, and send it to us via wetransfer.comgiving us your full name, location, and occupation. Please record in a well-lit environment with quite background noise if possible. The recording shouldn’t be more than a minute.  

These are the questions please answer only one of them.

1.         The way Boko Haram tends to be characterised is based on narratives on terrorism and religion. Are we getting a full picture? What socioeconomic context is missing and if we had it - how would that change our understanding of this story?
